Chapter 5: The Woods

First week of school has been good. I met so many new friends there and by so far I became best friends with Isabella Swan. She gave me her number and said we should hang sometime. I told Caroline and she wasnt too happy about it. I mean come on, jealousy much? Bella is a nice girl. I dont see anything wrong with her. So what she hangs with the Cullens! Edward isnt so bad himself and treats me friendly too. Caroline needs to chill.

Today I suppose to meet Caroline insde the woods for an afternoon jog. I put on my black yoga pants and white t-shirt. My hair was wrapped into a neat pony tail. I didnt see the point of putting on any make up this time, so I just added a bit of lip gloss. Once I was officially ready to go, I left out of my room and walked down the hall to Hailey's. I knocked on the door a few times. She didnt hear me and im guessing she had her ear buds in.

I opened the door and saw her laying on her bed still alseep. Who sleeps at 12:00 in the afternoon? I tapped her gently on the shoulder. She mumbled something underneath her breath and turned over to see who interrupted her slumber.

"Hailey, im going over to meet Caroline in the woods for our afternoon jog. Dad already knows and Conner is at football try outs. That means you are home alone. Dont let any one come in, got it?"

Hailey somewhat nodded, then rolled her self to the other side of the bed with her pillow over her head. I took it as a yes and left out of the room making my way down the stairs to the front door. When I got into the woods, I found Caroline sitting on a small log. Her hair was put into two pony tails and she wore gray jogging pants with black gym shoes. She tilt her head up after hearing my foot steps crush the leaves from underneath.

"Grace, you made it yay!" she smiled.

I returned the smile with a nod, "Yeah. So, im assuming you know your way in and out of the woods right?"

"Of course, Ive been in Forks for sixteen years! The woods use to be my secret hide out..."

"Perfect, that's exactly what I need...a secret hide out. You know, like a place to think or read!"

Caroline stood up, "I understand. Sometimes being alone is all we really need."

We both stood quiet and akward for a short minute, until Caroline finally had broken the ice.

"Well, let's go ahead and start jogging!" she beamed and zoomed off.

I raced after her, but only in my own pace. She was fast and I couldnt really catch up anymore. Have I gain weight lately? Man, I really need to stop eating those brownies my grandma use to make back in Florida. They were very rich in taste and made from scracth. I miss my grandmother very much. She was the person I could trust and go tell my secrets too. Now, she's far away. I have no one but my self. Maybe jogging could help release some of this stress about my mom.

I noticed Caroline had came to a stop up. I slowed down and stood beside her out of breath.

"How come you stopped?" I asked.

She smirked at me, "Just for you to catch your breath. You were way behind back there. If you needed me slow down, you should of asked!"

I nodded and took a seat on the leafy ground. I looked around, examining the beautiful forest and it's colorful leaves. It sure is nice out here and the weather was great. Caroline took a spot beside me and smiled.

"So, how are you liking Forks, Washington so far?" she asked, while pulling her knees up to her chest.

I smiled at her, "Great! Ive met amazing new friends and the stores here are good."

"Dont forget about Mimi's Diner!"

I looked at her confused, "Mimi's Diner?"

Her eyes widen, "Your telling me you've been here in Forks for three weeks and havent gone to Mimi's Diner?!"

I looked down at my shoes feeling embarrased. "Um, yeah?"

She shook her head with a small chuckle. "Oh Grace, there's more to show you. Me and you really have to hang out more!"

I shortly smiled with a nod, "That'll be cool!"

"Maybe Monday after school you could stop by over my place and have a study session? Im sure your dad will let you!"

"Yeah, he would."

"Perfect!"

After the afternoon jog, Caroline had walked me back home just in case if I would get lost in the woods. I waved good bye to her once I got in the house and closed the front door. In the kitchen I found my sister Hailey standing at the counter eating a sandwich. I walked up to the fridge to pour me a cup of apple juice.

"So, how was you guys afternoon jog?" she asked.

I shrugged a bit, "It was alright. I did enjoy the beautiful forestry!"

"Cool."

"Did Conner make it home yet?"

Hailey nodded, "Yeah, but then he left back out. Conner said he forgot something!"

My eyes were full of suspension, "Like what?"

"I dont know, he didnt say or why. He just left out!"

I sat my cup of apple juice down on the counter and rushed out the house with my jacket. I could hear Hailey's foot steps behind me.

"Stay home, I'll be back!"

"W-where are you going?" she asked, nervously.

I looked at her while opening the front door, "To find our brother. He should of been back an hour ago!"

Hailey stood at the front door without a word as I left out and sprint my way down the sidewalk. If Conner doesnt make it back home before dad does, im going to be in more trouble. My job is to look after and take care of my young siblings. But with Conner not calling or texting me saying where he is, this could leave me into panic mode. Who know's if he's okay!

When I made it to the school's football feild, I saw no one there. It was extremely empty. Where could Conner be? I puled out my phone to text him and stood waiting for an reply. Im so going to kill him once I find out where he is.
