Plot

Brightblossom has always had bad luck.

She failed her final assessment seven times.

A branch fell on her back when she was a kit and broke it, causing her apprentice ceremony to be held back by a moon.

One day, Brightblossom wakes up scratches herself on thorns poking through the den.

When she and Crowsong, her best friend, go hunting - Brightblossom doesn't catch anything, as she accidentally steps on a branch and scares all the prey away.

Finally, she is fed up with her bad luck and decides to go to the Moonstone to ask StarClan for help.

Crowsong goes with her, but they are stopped by a patrol of enemy warriors.

After arguing for a while, they let the two young warriors cross their territory and soon enough, they reach the Moonstone.

StarClan tells Brightblossom that there's nothing they can do, which angers her.

Instead, she turns to the Dark Forest.

An ancient leader named Rainstar tells Brightblossom that he can remove her bad luck, but there is a catch.

Brightblossom agrees, without even thinking to ask about the catch.

A moon passes and her luck increases dramatically. Brightblossom is made deputy and even has a few toms who want to be her mate.

Brightblossom is finally happy and forgets about the catch.

That is, until, her mother Hawkbriar gets attacked and dies soon after. This devastates Brightblossom.

Not long after that, her sister Feathercloud drowns in a river.

Now, Brightblossom is starting to suspect that this is the 'catch' is causing all these deaths.

After one of her friends, Mousemoss, dies, Brightblossom decides to talk to Rainstar.

He tells her that it was Crowsong who killed them and Brightblossom races over to her friend, furious.

Crowsong denies it and Brightblossom tries to take her life. However, a warrior named Mothbloom walks in on them and pulls them apart. 

Brightblossom is exiled for trying to kill a clanmate and begins plotting her revenge.

You can decide whether Rainstar was lying or Crowsong really did kill them

Remember, you can make even more cats die before Rainstar tells her that Crowsong did it, to add to the tension
