Plot

An apprentice wakes up in the LeafClan medicine den.

She can't remember anything. 

Not her name, her past or anyone around her.

The medicine cat alerts a tom and a she-cat, who the apprentice learns are her parents and they shower her with purrs of affection.

When she asks what her name is, she is told that she is called Poppypaw.

Poppypaw finds out that the two cats are her parents - named Moonwhisker and Bramblelight.

She isn't allowed out of the camp, due to her head wound, which she learns she gained from slipping into the river.

Poppypaw spends time with the medicine cat, Gooseberry and helps him sort out the herbs, growing close with the old cat.

A moon later, Poppypaw asks when she can leave camp, now that her wound has healed. However, Moonwhisker and Foxstar act strangely and immediately say that she'd better stay in camp for a while.

Weirded out, Poppypaw tells Gooseberry how strangely they acted when she asked when she could leave. Suddenly, he starts wailing and tells her that her name is Doepaw and not Poppypaw.

Then, Gooseberry explains the entire story. 

Moonwhisker and Bramblelight had a daughter named Poppypaw, who died from hitting her head in a stream. He tells her that they'd been devastated and convinced Foxstar to kidnap a BrightClan apprentice to replace their dead daughter.

Doepaw is shocked, as she is told this.

Tips

Remember to build on Doepaw's relationship with Gooseberry for a while, as it is an important part of the story

Try to focus on Doepaw's emotions, as she adjusts to her new life and then figures out she has been lied to and that she has to get away from the clan.
