Chapter Twenty Nine
"Sweetheart seriously you've get to get off that couch."Simon scolded as he walked into the living room.
"I will, today I promise."I replied my face still buried under the covers.
"You said that yesterday."He replied with a scoff.
I didn't reply and just stayed still enough hoping he'd think I'd fallen asleep so he'd leave me alone. After a few minutes I heard him sigh followed by the rustling of keys and the door being opened.
"I'm going to work, I hope when I come back you'll have gotten off that couch, eaten something and taken a shower."He requested.
I lifted my hand from underneath the blankets and gave him a thumbs up so that he didn't think I was ignoring him. I heard him hesitate for a few more seconds before he finally left the house closing the door by behind him.
Ever since my fall out with my aunt four days before I had been crashing on Simon's sofa. He had found me sleeping in his shop and had insisted I move to his home. I'd resisted for a while until I realized it was easier for my aunt to find me at Simon's shop than his home. I was still sore from our fight but I had no visible bruises.
Simon told me that he'd seen my aunt and she didn't look too well. I wasn't proud of what I had done but Simon was happy that I had stood up for myself and won. I thought about going back to my aunt and apologizing but then I'd continue being miserable forever. I had no money, no home and no boyfriend. Simon had said I was welcome to stay with him for as long as I wanted to but I couldn't crash on his couch forever. I needed to figure out my life but that could wait till later. With that thought I pulled the covers over my head and went back to sleep.
**********
Someone shook me awake and pulled the covers away from me. I tried to reach for them blindly but only grasped air so I opened my eyes and saw Simon standing over me hands crossed over his chest. Oops, had I slept all day? I slowly sat up hands on my lap looking down like a scolded child.
"Young lady what did I tell you when I left this morning?"I didn't like the tone of voice he was using on me but I had made him angry and I deserved it.
"That I needed to get up and take a shower."I answered meekly in a soft voice.
"Did you do any of that?"
"No."
"Malaika what I'm I going to do with you?"He breathed shifting his arms to his waist. He thought about it for a minute before addressing me"I want you to get into that bathroom right now, take a shower, brush your teeth, get dressed then come out for supper."
I didn't need to be told twice, I'd already angered him once and needed to get back to his good side so I got up and fast walked to the bathroom. Simon lived in a one bedroom apartment but it was bigger than my aunt's. I still had my clothes from my shopping spree with William in a suitcase with Simon so it's not like I didn't have anything to wear.
After cleaning up I got dressed in a pair of shorts, some socks and a hoodie. I didn't put any gel in my hair since I wasn't going anywhere. I walked back into the kitchen and found Simon serving up some spaghetti. He gave me an approving look once he saw me and I sat down next to him on the sofa, said my prayers and dug in. We didn't talk much since Simon was busy watching TV and I was lost in my own thoughts. After supper I did the dishes since it was the kind thing to do after Simon had cooked for us.
"Sweetheart come in here I want to talk to you."He called out just as I stacked the last plate on the drying rack.
I dried my hands on a kitchen towel, put it back and walked into the living room sitting across him on another sofa. He looked at me for a few minutes before speaking up.
"What are your plans now that you've moved away from your aunt?"He asked me and I shrugged because I honestly hadn't thought about it. "Come one sweetheart you must have at least a rough idea of what you want to do."
"Maybe join the university but that's going to cost money and I don't have any."I replied.
"You still have that two hundred thousand William gave you."
"I already told you that I don't want to use that money."I protested.
I didn't want to think about William or anything that had to do with him. Sure I kept all the clothes as stuff that he bought me but I had no control there unless I wanted to walk naked. Using the money that he gave me was something that I could control.
"Too bad because I already used it and not for me but for you."He replied smirking.
"What do you mean?"I asked confused.
Instead of replying he reached for a few documents on the table and handed me and envelope. I took it from him and poured out its contents on the table. They were all official looking documents and once my eyes grasped what I was looking at they welled up with tears. They were all my official documents from my birthday certificate to all my education certificates. There was a smaller envelope in there and when I looked inside it was my passport and a ticket to Billings, Montana. I held it up with a questioning look on my face asking for an explanation.
"William flew all the way to Kenya, across continents to come see you and I know you still love him no matter what happened between you two. Maybe this time you should be the one fighting for him."Simon encouraged and I shook my head no.
"He cheated on me."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Why are you defending him?"I asked getting ticked off.
"I'm not defending him but I love you and want what's best for you. This boy clearly means a lot to you. Do you know for a fact that he actually cheated on you?" He asked and I leaned back in the sofa thinking about his question.
William had denied cheating on me even though all the evidence had been against him. Should I take a leap of faith and use the ticket or just sit back always wonder for the rest of my life what would have been if I'd fought for us.
"I'm not sure about this. What if he's already moved on?"I wondered out loud.
"You dated the guy for the better part of this year and know him well enough. Do you really think he's moved on?"
"I'm not sure."I replied.
"Well this is your chance to find out and besides its a two way ticket so that if things don't work out you can come back but if they do then all is good. Just don't give up on happiness because you're afraid. True love always wins and what you kids have for each other is pure and true. Don't give up on it."He encouraged.
"I'm scared but I'll think about it."I replied my resolve breaking a little bit.
"Don't think for too long. You're flight is in two days."He informed me nonchalantly as if he hadn't just dropped a bomb on my lap.
"What?!"
"They had a holidays offer that I couldn't resist. Think about it but fast."He advised before kissing my forehead and walking away leaving me to my thoughts.
The thought of going to Montana both scared and excited me. I wanted to see William and get an explanation but at the same time I was afraid of getting my heart broken again. Such a hard decision, it was giving me a headache. Maybe some sleep could fix that and I'd leave the decision to my dream fairies. With that thought in mind I turned off the lights and buried myself under my blankets on my makeshift bed. My last thought before I slept was that as much as I was afraid I also found myself getting excited to get out of the country and travel overseas for the first time in my life.

I love writing because it helps me escape to the same world my characters live in.
