Fishing Trip
A/N here's another chapter in Jax's POV, enjoy.
Jax's POV
I can't believe it my first fishing trip and it's five days. Mum had been on fishing trips before with Charlie. Most were only weekend trips though. And always with people from the station or with Billy Black. Mum told me not to wonder off and to do as I am told. I agreed too.
When we arrived, we discovered the trip included a small cabin to stay in. Which allowed dogs, but only had one bedroom. Charlie put our dog beds by the fire. "I can take the couch" he tells Sue.
"Don't be silly Charlie, the bed is big enough for two" Sue tells him. "I'll go put the food away" she states and heads to the kitchen. Mum following her. Charlie sighs and I paw him gently.
"I'm fine boy" he assures me patting my head.
"Charlie, do you want sandwiches or pasta for dinner?!" Sue calls from the kitchen.
"Sandwiches are fine!" he calls as she appears with mum. "I thought we could go for a walk, check out the river" he states. Sue nods her head and they put their coats on. She grabs mum's lead while Charlie grabbed mine. Once we were leashed up, we left the cabin.
"Look there's a boat ramp" Sue says boating.
"Awesome, when do you want to start fishing?" Charlie asks her as we walk along the shore.
"Tomorrow, it's been a long journey here" she states. "I say we have an early night tonight and head out at first light" she suggests.
"Sounds like a plan" Charlie says with a smile. I sniff the water and touch it with my paw. I yelp at the coldness and rush away from it. Hiding behind Charlie and my mum laughs.
"Is he ok?" Sue asks Charlie concerned as she looks at me.
"Yeah, I think he was just shocked by the temperature of the water" Charlie states as he pats my back. Calming me. Mum approaches me and licks my muzzle.
'It is ok my son, the water cannot hurt you' she assures me.
"Does he know how to swim?" Sue asks Charlie.
"No, this is his first fishing trip" Charlie tells her. "Hence why I got him a life jacket. But Jewel knows how the swim, though I doubt she'd go in the water when it's cold" he explains. "I mean Jax has gone to the beach before, but that was ages ago" he adds. "He was only nine weeks old then" he states.
"Well looks like we need to do more trips like this or to the beach. Help build up his confidence around water" Sue tells him. As my mum runs into the water and catches something. She trots out and drops it in front of Charlie.
"Good catch girl" he praises and she wags her tail. Sue picks up the flopping wet animal. What is it? I wonder sniffing it. "It's a catfish boy" Charlie tells me.
"Guess we're having fish for dinner" Sue states. Before killing it and bleeding it out. Before we head back. She makes two fillet steaks for her and Charlie. Using the leftovers to help with the stalk. According to mum. We just got our kibble.
'Can you teach me to do that?' I ask mum as we chill by the fire after dinner. Charlie and Sue had already called it a night.
'Of course, but it takes practice and patience' she tells me. 'I can teach you to swim also' she adds and I smile. 'Now sleep, we have an early morning' she reminds me and we go to sleep.
(Four days later)
All in all, it was a fun trip. But there were some hiccups. Like I fell off the boat into the river. Mum jumped in after me and guided me to shore while instructing me on how to move my legs. Honestly, worst first experience of swimming ever. But I am determined to master it and fish catching. Mum caught several salmon and a couple of trout. They were slippery then I expected and I got frustrated quickly, scaring the fish away.
Mum has faith in me though. And I am determined to master it encase we ever go on a fishing trip with my siblings. So that I can show off a little. Charlie and Sue had a competition to see who could catch the most fish. Loser shouted dinner at the restaurant last night. Charlie lost by one fish. But he didn't seem to mind it one bit.
Anyway, we're on our way back to Forks now. Charlie told Sue we should be there by sunset. Which means we can have dinner with Bella, Edward, Renesmee, Seth and Leah. Tell them all about our trip before celebrating the new year with them. I don't know what they meant by new year at first. But mum explained it. It's an annual celebration, celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of another. There would be fireworks, whatever those are. And lots to eat. I can't wait to be home and celebrate new years.
