City of Sthapan, Present Day, 8:30 a.m.
No, it did not go as planned.
Vidyut had been silent during the entire trip, and it did not take even half of Omkar's gray cells to know what that was about.
Besides, Vidyut and Mitran had gone back to TTI in Vidyut's car, whereas Omkar had driven his car to TTI. After giving another cold look at Omkar, Vidyut did not say anything to Omkar as he marched to the computer server room in the basement of TTI.
Mitran was not someone who missed something like that. No matter what the situation.
"Do I want to know why Vidyut is pissed with you?" Mitran asked mildly as they were walking towards the clinic. "And why is the name Vani Srivastav familiar, Om?"
Omkar was silent for a few seconds, as they stood outside the clinic." Vani is the woman I loved before I met Kriti."
Yup, that Mitran remembered almost immediately. Because she was the one who had gotten herself involved in a crucial TTI case."The thief! The thief who was killed on the day that we arrested Shreya...." Mitran's voice trailed off.
Omkar said nothing else.
They entered the TTI clinic, and Dr. Bhide was in the inner consultation room.
The clinic in the basement of the TTI building was a neat and precise place. It always smelt of disinfectant, and everything there had a neat and precise location.
The front room had two beds meant for patients' check-ups, and the medicine was all stacked on shelves in the back. There was a consultation room inside, and further inside were two operating theatres – not too big, but just right.
Omkar pushed the glass door with the red plus sign, and the first thing Omkar saw was a slightly afraid looking new doctor – Dr. Kairav Saral.
The man was writing what seemed like reports and was sitting on the side of the front room. The other medical staff were evidently in the inner operating room working on something there, because Omkar could not see them here and they rarely went to any other places in the TTI building.
Dr. Kairav was in his mid-thirties, with a round face and dark eyes. The man was of average height. He had a prominent nose as he pushed his spectacles up, and Mitran recognized the man almost immediately.
"Dr. Kairav?" Mitran nodded with a pasted smile." When did you come?"
"Today morning is my first day at Sthapan, chief." The doctor started.
He stopped talking as Dr. Bhide came out of the inner consultation room. "Mitran?" Dr. Bhide nodded. "I called up Aadi, just ten minutes back. He should be here any minute now, and we can go...."
Bhide's voice trailed off as he eyed Omkar.
No one knew what the doctor was going to say next. Because Mitran's cell phone rang at that exact second.
From the upside-down angle, Omkar saw that the call to Mitran's number was an unknown number.
Omkar had meant to walk away to the computer room next door, but Omkar did not move.
Mitran's face. For a second, Mitran's dark eyes turned so cold that Omkar shivered. He had always known that Mitran was a dangerous man who could kill without a second thought. Worse, Mitran had no compunctions about what they did in TTI, and Mitran definitely had no issues with the brutal training that his selected candidates went through to become agents. But with all that, Omkar had never seen that degree of hatred which Omkar now saw in Mitran's eyes. Hatred was too mild a word for it.
Thirty seconds later, Mitran cut the call. No, not a twitch changed in Mitran's face.
But his hand went into a fist, which was when Omkar knew, whatever it was, it was bad.
Mitran's incongruously light-colored shirt notwithstanding, the man looked very close to killing someone.
"Chief?" Omkar was cautious.
"Some lunatic was on the line." Mitran said viciously, thumbing Bhide out of the clinic. Even as Mitran spoke, he stormed out of the empty front room of the clinic and towards the computer room. "He said that he would call back in ten minutes with his demand, and if I did not do as he asked, he was going to kill Aadi."
