Creative Writing
Girls and boys of every age surround you in red beanies and red eye shadow. Black smeared down their arms and chests. All repeating two names, Josh and Tyler.
Tyler Joseph had been the infamous basketball player when you were in high school. You always had a little crush on him but you were a sophomore his senior year so he never glanced at you. Although you had the grade/age gap you managed to have one class with him, elective creative writing. This class was suppose to be only for upperclassmen but you had an in with your councilor so you managed to get in. You loved the writing and close reading that came with that class but the highlight by far was Tyler. Tyler had the most interesting thoughts about every piece of literature including the ones he wrote. The flow of his passages and the deeper meaning behind them always stole your heart, just like Tyler did. That semester of creative writing was the best part of your whole high school experience.
As the years of high school and then college dragged by you always had Tyler in the back of your mind. You knew his senior year he was offered a few basketball scholarships and you've always assumed he took one of them and just never went pro. That was until 5 months ago. You were driving to meet friends for a late lunch when a song called Stressed Out came on the radio. The flow and meaning of the words instantly made you think of Tyler. You pulled your car over and googled the song and found out it was by the band Twenty One Pilots, fronted by non other than Tyler Joseph of Columbus, Ohio. You were astonished that the years you thought Tyler was off playing basketball somewhere he was actually in Columbus starting a band. You bought tickets to the next show with no hesitation and that's how you got to where you are now.
As the lights begin to dim the stadium fills with cheers and screams. Out of no where a figure jumps over a piano and the drums begin. As the spotlight hits the figure you instantly get that feeling of high school again. The light settles and shines brightly on Tyler as he begins the rap of heavydirtysoul. As you stand there in that crowd of thousands who adore Tyler, you only see the boy who plays basketball from your creative writing class.
