you get in a fight

"Alright, I have to go," Tyler said, ending the call without another word.

You pulled the phone away from your ear and stared at it, as if to confirm that Tyler had really just hung up on you. Normally he was really good about communication during tours, but lately it seemed like he was always in a rush to get off the phone with you.

"Maybe tomorrow will be better," you muttered, even though that's what you had been telling yourself for the last week.

"Hello," you picked up the phone with a cheery tone to hide the resentment that you were feeling.

"Hey, babe. How's it going?" Tyler asked.

You could hear all the commotion going on around him even through the phone. It was probably getting close to time for their soundcheck.

"Pretty good, just hanging out with the dogs," you sighed. "WIsh you were here with me."

"Yeah, I wish I was there too."

"Oh, hey, I just remembered this story that I wanted to tell you."

You quickly began to tell Tyler about a run-in you had with a neighbor earlier that morning, but halfway through the story you noticed that Tyler was talking to someone else. He had tried to mask it by putting his hand over the mic, presumably, but you could still tell he wasn't paying attention.

"Isn't that funny?"

"I'm sorry?" Tyler said, immediately returning to the call as you asked a question.

"When she handed me the apples," you said, making something up.

"Yeah, that was hilarious."

"Alright, Ty, what's the deal?"

"Deal with what?" he asked.

"Lately when we're on the phone you've hardly been paying attention and it seems like there's a million things you'd rather be doing."

"I'm sorry, Y/N. There's a lot going on and I want to talk to you as much as possible, but between being out of cell phone range and needing to prepare for concerts, that time is limited."

"You know you didn't even say you loved me when you ended the call yesterday," you muttered, picking at some skin on your arm.

"It just slipped my mind, I'm really not trying to upset you."

"I know you aren't, but it just seems like there's a little more effort that could be put in from your end. You weren't even paying attention to the story I was telling."

"One of the guys was asking me which mic I would prefer. I'm not trying to push you aside, Y/N. There's a lot on my plate, and I think it's unfair for you to say I'm not putting in enough effort."

"Is it really so hard for you to say you love me before ending a call, Ty?"

"No, but like I said, I didn't mean to not say it. It honestly just slipped my mind."

"It hurts, Tyler."

"At least I called you! Would you rather I just wait until I have an hour to set aside before I call you? Because I can promise you that those moments are few and far between."

"Well, no..."

"Exactly, so I recommend you think about that before telling me I'm not putting enough effort in."

"Yeah, well maybe you should consider how I feel too."

You ended the call before Tyler could get another word in. Any longer and you would start to say things that you regretted as more emotions became clouded in your mind. Both of you just needed time to think. This could be worked out.

At least, you hoped it could.

You felt awful. It had only been half an hour since your fight with Tyler and you had spent the entire time crying. The dogs were curled up around you, obviously aware of the distress that you were in. You wanted to call him back and talk to him, but you knew that he was in the middle of soundcheck and wouldn't be able to talk, even if he wanted to.

Your phone began to vibrate against the coffee table, causing you to jump. The dogs looked at you in confusion as you reached over to see what the hell was going on. Much to your surprise, it was Tyler calling. Your heart began to pound as you pressed the answer call button and held the phone to your ear.

"Hello?" your voice sounded weird from crying. You hoped Tyler wouldn't notice.

"Y/N." He sounded distressed.

"Yes?"

"I'm so sorry. I was being dumb and selfish. I know that I've been bad at communication lately and I'm going to try and be better. I promise."

"It's ok, Ty," you sniffled. "You have a lot going on and your free time is important. It's unfair of me to demand that you spend all of it talking to me."

"I hope you know that I do enjoy talking to you."

"I do, but you should spend time with everyone else too. We'll have plenty of time together once you get home."

"So we're ok?" he asked.

"Yeah," you sighed with relief. "I'm sorry too."

"Hey, it's ok. We're cool now."

"I love you so much, Ty."

"I love you too."

"Hey, aren't you supposed to be doing a soundcheck right now?"

"Yeah. Josh is figuring out his drums right now, I just couldn't do the show knowing that you were mad at me."

"I wasn't mad, just worried. You know that I don't want to lose you."

"I hate that I made you think even for a second that you were."

"It's alright. You should probably get back to soundcheck."

"Before I go, there's one more thing I wanted to talk about."

"Sure, what is it?"

"I was doing a lot of thinking during soundcheck and, well, do you want to come join us on tour for a week or two? It might be a good idea for you to get out of the house and then we won't have to worry about talking over the phone."

"I would love that."

"Ok, great. I'll call you tomorrow and we can work out the details."

"Alright. You're going to do great out there tonight."

"Thanks. And guess what?"

"What?"

"I love you."

You couldn't help but smile at that.

"I love you too."
