You stared at the blank hospital wall in front of you and listened to the steady beeping of the various monitors around you. Memories of the wreck were still fresh in your mind, and you hated that there was so little to distract you. Your phone had been absolutely destroyed in the wreck and the various fractures in both of your legs made it difficult for you to go anywhere.

A nurse walked into the room, smiling brightly. You resisted the urge to roll your eyes at his cheery demeanor, after all it was part of his job.

"You have a visitor," he smiled.

Your eyebrows shot up in shock, "I do?"

The hospital hadn't notified you that they had contacted anyone, and you hadn't had a chance to talk to any family members since the wreck. It would be nice to see a friendly face again.

"Yep, he's waiting outside."

"Ok, cool," you said.

The nurse stepped out of the room for a moment, providing you with the opportunity to sit up a bit straighter. Your heart skipped a beat as you watched Josh walk into the room, carrying a bouquet of flowers.

"Josh," you beamed.

"Hey."

He walked over and set the flowers on the table next to your hospital bed. You held out your arms and he leaned over your bed so that he could hug you.

"I'm so glad you're ok," he said. "You had me worried for awhile there."

"How much did they tell you?" you asked once he pulled away.

"They called me shortly after you were admitted to let me know where you were and what was going on. I got periodic updates from then until today when they told me I was free to come see you."

"Have you talked to my family?"

"Yeah. Your mom was already looking at plane tickets when I was on the phone with her."

"Of course," you smiled.

Josh reached down and wordlessly grabbed your hand.

"You can sit if you want."

"Right," Josh said.

He gave your hand a squeeze before letting go and moving around to the other side of the bed. Something about him seemed off, but you couldn't quite place it.

"Are you doing alright?"

Josh looked up at you and bit his lip, "Yeah, I'm alright. This whole situation just kind of threw me and even though you're ok, I'm still a bit shaken up."

You reached out to him now, prompting him to take hold of your hand, "It's alright, Josh. I'm here and I'm safe, that's all that matters."

"I know," he sighed, pressing a kiss to your knuckles.

"Come here."

You shifted to the side and patted the now empty space next to you on the bed. Josh smiled and hopped up on the bed next to you, throwing an arm around your shoulders.

"I can't wait to get home," you sighed, trying to ignore the metal of the hospital bed digging into your arm.

"This isn't so bad!" Josh said, although you could see him shifting all his weight to one side to avoid falling off the bed.

"Whatever you say."

Josh pressed a kiss to your cheek and smiled. You sighed and leaned into his shoulder. At least now you didn't have to stare at the hospital wall alone.
