"What day would work for you?" the hostess asked.

"Let me check my calendar."

You put the phone on speaker and set it down next to your laptop while you pulled up the calendar. Josh had been super busy as of late, and you wanted to make a dinner reservation at a restaurant the two of you liked so that you could get some quality time in.

Unfortunately, Josh was booked every night for the next two weeks and it was likely that more things would pop up in the coming days. You should have guessed. It seemed all Josh had time for anymore was his music.

"On second thought, I don't think I'm going to be able to make a reservation. I'm sorry for taking up your time."

"No worries," she said, although you knew that was just the response she had to give. "Have a nice night."

"You too."

You ended the call just before Josh walked through the front door. He seemed to be in a good mood.

"Hey, babe."

"Hi," you muttered, shutting your laptop.

"You doing alright?"

You turned in your chair so that you could more easily face him, "Not really."

"What's going on?"

"I'm just frustrated."

"With?"

"I tried to make us a dinner reservation so that we could spend some quality time together, but you're booked for the next two weeks straight. It just feels like you're putting all your energy into that and you don't even want to spend time with me anymore."

"That isn't the case at all."

"Think about it, Josh. When was the last time we went on a proper date instead of just putting on a movie where you fall asleep in twenty minutes?"

"I just don't have time, alright? The new album is coming out in a few weeks and there's a lot to do."

Of course, he was getting defensive.

"I get that, Josh. But can you really not set aside even one night a week to spend with me?"

"There's a lot of work to be done, Y/N! You just don't understand."

"Well I might if we actually spent time together and you explained it to me!" you snapped back.

Your eyes were starting to sting. Crying was the last thing that you wanted to do right now, but evidently you didn't have a choice.

"You can't always be the top priority, Y/N. My career is just as important to me."

"So I've learned," you mumbled.

Josh didn't retaliate. You stared at the ground and let tears slip silently down your cheeks, waiting for his next insult.

"Do you really think I don't care?" he asked quietly.

You shrugged and avoided eye contact. He walked over and grabbed your hand, gently prompting you to stand up from your chair.

"I'm so sorry, Y/N. People usually lash out at me because they're jealous and so I get defensive. I didn't even consider your feelings and–I'm so sorry."

He pulled you into a hug and you held onto him tightly.

"I'm just worried that you'll get tired of me and find someone else."

"I could never get tired of you. Listen, I'll talk to the team and see if I can get a night or two off next week. I'll take you on a proper date."

"I'd like that."
