"Ty, there are pine needles everywhere," you sighed, looking at the trail that had been left from the front door to the living room.
"We'll get them cleaned up," he said.
You shook your head as you walked off to find scissors. Tyler was currently trying to figure out how to open the ladder so that you would be able to reach the top of the tree. It had taken a while to convince him that he didn't need to find an unconventional way to do so, a ladder would be just fine.
"Got the scissors!" you said, swinging them around your finger.
"Perfect," he smiled. "I think I finally got the ladder worked out."
Tyler climbed up to the top of the ladder and you handed him the scissors. He carefully began to cut the string away and the tree began to expand. Much to your dismay, this meant almost twice as many pine needles as there were before you had started.
"It looks a lot bigger in the house," you said as Tyler finished unwrapping the last bit of string.
Tyler stepped back so that he was standing next to you, string still in hand.
"Yeah, maybe a little," he laughed.
"Let's just get to decorating," you sighed, opening up the first tub of ornaments.
Tyler grabbed a couple ornaments and the two of you began to hang them up on the tree. Neither of you had ever been the type to care about a themed tree, meaning that most of your ornaments were random ones that you had picked up over the years or been given by family members.
"Where should we put this one?" Tyler asked, holding up an ornament.
"Probably up towards the top, it's pretty heavy."
"On it," he answered, already beginning to scale the ladder.
You continued to decorate the tree, trusting that Tyler would be able to safely hang up the ornament on his own. It wasn't until you looked up and saw him hanging half off the ladder that you realized that had been a mistake.
"Tyler!"
"What?" he smiled, looking down at you.
"Be careful," you sighed.
"Always am."
He hung the ornament on one of the highest branches and then carefully got back down the ladder. Once he was safely back on the ground, he walked over and pulled you into a hug.
"You scare me, you know that?" you laughed.
"I know, but it's just so fun."
He pressed a kiss to your forehead and went to grab some more ornaments. You took a break to make some hot chocolate for the two of you to enjoy while you worked.
Decorating the tree should have only taken an hour, but of course you and Tyler managed to stretch it into three. This was mostly due to the two of you stopping to dance, relive memories, and Tyler feeling the need to playfully question your placement of nearly every ornament.
"Now all we need is the star," you said.
"I've got this."
You watched as Tyler once again climbed the ladder and leaned scarily far over the tree in order to place it on the very top. Thankfully, he didn't fall and your decoration of the tree was finally done.
"What do you think?" Tyler asked.
You smiled, "I think we did a fantastic job."
"Now to vacuum all these pine needles up."
