"Y/N." Your head flicked up at the sound of your name. "Truth or dare?"
"Um, truth?"
This seemed to be the answer that your best friend was looking for.
"Ok, tell us who you like."
Oh, that was just cruel. He was sitting right there, completely unaware of the massive crush that you had been holding on to for the last three months. You thought about lying, but your best friend would know right away.
"I changed my mind. I want a dare."
Your friend rolled her eyes, "That's not how this game works."
"Too bad, I'm changing the rules."
"Ok, then I dare you to tell us who you like."
You raised your eyebrows at her. She simply smiled and cocked her head slightly to the side. Your palms were already sweating.
"Can't I have a different question?"
"Come on, Y/N! What's the big deal about telling us who you like? He's not here, is he?"
You were seriously reconsidering your friendship right about now.
"Fine," you said, trying to buy time. "The person I like is, um."
Another of the boys chimed in, "Just spit it out."
"Josh."
You didn't even want to look in the direction he was sitting. Your face felt like it was on fire. Across the circle, your so-called best friend was laughing with the girl she was sitting next to and whispering things into her ear. It would be nice if you could just disappear straight into the ground right about now.
"Alright, Y/N, your turn to ask someone."
"Just skip me," you muttered. "I'm going to go grab a drink."
You stood up and walked away from the crowd of buzzed teenagers. The kitchen was practically empty which was a welcome change from the rest of the house. There were still a couple beers buried in the bottom of the cooler, so you grabbed one and popped the top off.
Someone tapped your shoulder as you were sulking in the kitchen, scaring you out of your thoughts. You turned to see none other than Josh standing behind you, holding his own beer in his hands.
"Oh god," you muttered. "Please, I don't want to talk about it."
"You missed the next truth," he said plainly before taking a sip of his beer.
"Don't worry, I didn't need to be there to know what happened."
Josh still offered up the information, "They asked me the same question."
"I know, and you gave them a name that definitely wasn't mine."
"I guess you did need to be there to know what happened."
You turned to face him, "What?"
His eyes met yours, "I like you, Y/N."
"You're drunk."
"Wow, I must be more of a lightweight than I thought if two sips of beer can get me drunk."
"Shut up," you laughed, taking a sip of your own beer.
"Sorry it had to happen this way."
"It's fine. My friend in there is the one to be blamed for all this."
"You know, I think if we use our combined knowledge of the people in that room, we can get more than enough revenge."
"You think so?"
"It's worth a shot."
Josh held out a hand and led you back to the other room. Even if things had worked out in the end, there was still revenge to be had.
