"Can you at least try to look a little excited?" you asked, lowering your phone slightly.
"I'm tired," Josh yawned. He reached a hand across the table and wrapped it around yours. "I just want to spend time with you."
"Can't I just get one picture? I won't even post it anywhere."
"Fine, but I'm not smiling."
You sighed, but took the picture regardless. With Josh being away on tour so often, you liked to take plenty of pictures when the two of you were actually together. Even though you had picked him up from the airport hardly two hours ago, this lunch date was no exception.
"Ok, no more photos," you said, setting your phone down on the table. "Just quality time."
"That's what I like to hear," he smiled.
"Oh, so that gets you to smile, huh?"
"Yes, because now I get to look at you and not the back of your phone."
"Sorry that I want to keep recent pictures of my boyfriend so that I can look at them when I'm away on tour," you teased, giving his hand a squeeze.
"That's what Brad is for," he laughed.
"I wasn't aware that Brad took pictures while the two of you went on lunch dates."
"Well..."
"Or when you fall asleep on the couch."
"I guess..."
"Or early in the morning when your hair is all over the place."
"Ok, ok! I get it," he smiled.
You took a long sip of your drink as you shot a smug look at Josh. He simply shook his head.
"I can't wait to get back to the house and lay down in our bed."
"I'm excited to have you back. The house hasn't been the same without you."
"I know, but now I'm back for two months."
"And then you leave again," you sighed.
"We don't have to talk about that right now."
"Ok."
Josh was staring at you with the slightest hint of a smile on his face. Unsure of what else to do, you made a weird face which only made him laugh.
"Dork."
"You were staring! I didn't know what else to do!"
"I was just admiring you. It's been too long since I got to just look at you."
"Oh, so you get to stare at me for however long you want, but I can't take one quick picture of you?"
"You did get to take a picture!"
"But you didn't smile."
"I promise I'll be more willing to take pictures when I'm not so tired. That flight really took it out of me."
"It's alright, love," you smiled. "I'm just giving you a hard time. You look handsome no matter what face you're making."
"I'll keep that in mind for band photoshoots."
"Good plan."
You were interrupted by a waiter delivering your food. With food now in front of him, Josh had the biggest smile that you had seen all day on his face.
"Who knew of all things, food would make you the happiest," you laughed.
"Food does not make me the happiest. You do."
"Aw, thanks, love."
Josh smiled at you before grabbing his silverware. You were glad to have him back from tour, even if the next two months would fly by.
"I love you, Josh."
"I love you too."
