⛄Day 08⛄

Jungkook tapped his pen softly against his yellow legal pad. His left arm was bent, elbow on the old fake wood conference room table, and supporting his slightly aching head as he tried to keep himself from falling asleep, which the droning voice of his boss certainly wasn't helping. Meetings. The most boring thing on Earth. Stupid department head meetings. Jungkook honestly hadn't expected the promotion. It had happened last May sometime. Junhee had applied to corporate, Jungkook didn't really keep up with who was who in corporate, or some other business and had gotten the job, leaving the place completely empty of a department head. He supposed his work was great, he never really thought about it. I mean, who evaluates themselves on work that they don't really care about? He was mostly here to pay rent and eat. He had been called into-

"Jungkook?" His boss was looking over at him with his hand stretched out expectantly, "Your department reports?"

"O-Oh, yes, yes, sir. Right here." He slid the files out from beside him and handed them to the boss who opened them and returned to the boring talk.

He had been called into the bosses office. He had been sitting at his cherry wood desk with his arms resting on the surface, hands clasped tightly together. He had that weird looking smile on his face that either meant something good or something bad was going to happen. You know that smile, not the person's regular one, but the one that hints that they know something and you have zero idea if it's good or bad? That smile.

Jungkook had taken a seat and bit his lip nervously as he looked at his boss who still had that stupid smile spread across his face. They maintained silent eye contact for a moment or two before the boss blinked a couple times, looked down at the file that been hidden by his computer when Jungkook came in, and tapped it lightly, but hard enough for a little sound to resonate in the room.

So, as you know, Junhee has left us here without a department head, his boss had said. Jungkook nodded. Well, he continued, corporate said we need a new one and they made a list of recommendations. Some are outside hires and three or four are inside hires. The boss opened the file and looked through the sheets inside, you're one of them, he had said. Jungkook had felt his stomach churn at the news, but before he could say anything, the boss had continued, I would love for you to be our new department head. Upon seeing Jungkook's hesitation, the boss added, I'd love for you to consider taking the position at least. It comes with a slight pay raise and, of course, more authority and responsibility, but I have no doubt that you can manage it.

Jungkook had bit his lip again, his head still trying to grasp the concept of the promotion. He opened his mouth and before he could stop it, he stuttered out a 'sure'. The boss had shaken his hand with a wide excited smile on his face and said he would speak with him later about the details, and thus, Jungkook found himself in a conference room with people he felt were better suited for this kind of position then he ever would be, discussing matters about an entire department. Just why had the boss chosen him?

The door to the room opened and Mina poked her head in, "Jungkook? Message at reception for you."

"Thanks, Mina." He looked around the table, "Do you all mind?"

"Not at all." The boss said.

Jungkook got out of his seat and left the conference room, leaving the door cracked behind him. He let out a sigh as he headed over to reception. Mina glanced away from her computer screen and up at the male who rested his forearms against the faux granite surface of the upper portion of her desk.

"Hey, the message?"

"Yeah," She slid a small carton of milk, like you'd see in an elementary school cooler, across the upper surface, "Here you go."

"This is the message?" Jungkook asked as he picked the carton up and mulled over it.

"Mhm," She hummed.

"Did you see who dropped it off?"

"No, it was here when I came back from making copies a couple of minutes ago."

"Alright, well, thanks Mina."

"No problem. Good luck in there."

"Thanks." He smiled at her before walking over to his desk and setting the milk carton down on his desk. He'd have to study this later when his attendance in a meeting was mandatory.

As he placed the milk down, he noticed a shape behind his computer monitor. The brunette furrowed his eyebrows as he pushed the screen away from whatever that white blob was. Another milk carton. Jungkook rolled his eyes and moved the milk to sit beside the other before readjusting his monitor. He really wasn't in the mood for this, his headache was about to split his head wide open. Later, he sighed, later. As for now, the meeting must go on, as they say.

He sank back into his seat at the table after thanking the rest of the heads in the room for waiting for him and then the meeting resumed.

The only distraction that came after this was another knock on the conference room door. The financial head, Yeo Hwanwoong, who was speaking at the time, stopped mid sentence and looked up at the door somewhat annoyed. He, like Jungkook, just wanted this meeting to be done and over with.

"Come in," The boss said looking at the door through the lenses of his readers.

The door opened and Hoseok stepped through the door towards Jungkook with what looked like another little, white milk carton in hand.

"Jungkook, I was told to give this to you," He set the milk down on the table by the brunette.

"Thank you, Hoseok Hyung." He smiled up at the other before glancing down at the little carton.

After the door was closed, his boss began to chuckle, "Well, you're sure popular today."

"I guess so."

"Shall we resume?" Hwanwoong asked, glancing around the table.

The table nodded and so the meeting continued.

Jungkook was the last out of the conference room an hour later, milk carton in hand. He closed the door with a thud and then began towards his desk, rolling his shoulders as he did so. His head was killing him, it was worse than before. It felt like an axe had been wedged straight down the middle of his head.

He groaned lightly as he noticed yet another milk sitting on his keyboard with a little yellow sticky note attached. He slumped into his seat and tore the note off the carton on his keyboard.

"Hey, it looked like you could use a couple of these and maybe three more. You did great in there, beautiful boy :)"

Jungkook laughed quietly which caused his head to throb which cut all the giggles off. He massaged his temples with his index and middle fingers before turning the milk around in his hand. The label in bright yellow read "Banana Milk". An excited smile grew on Jungkook's face as he saw those yellow letters. Banana milk had always been his favorite. He liked the sweet taste and texture of the drink, that nice thick smoothness. He would gladly take these little gifts, though he wasn't sure he had any place to put them where no one would steal them until he got home. He pushed the two over to the now milk inhabited area of his desk and looked around the office. He supposed he could at least look at the fridge in the kitchenette and see if there was space for them. Maybe he could leave a note saying not to touch the milks and hope, just hope, that they would all be there when he returned at five. He turned the seat in the direction of the kitchen and began on his way.

The kitchenette wasn't small, but it wasn't big either. It was that nice medium that a kitchen in an office needed. It had cabinet and counter space, a tall fridge that accommodated well to the seventeen employees on that floor, a (slightly dirty) sink, a microwave, a toaster, and table for eating. It was nice when it was clean, which was only in the morning after the night custodians came in and cleaned it.

Jungkook popped the fridge open with a smuck type noise. It was pretty full considering it was after lunch, probably not enough room for banana milks, he supposed. He was about to close the cream fridge's door, but something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. Another carton of milk. It was sitting in the door of the fridge on those little shelves with a sticky note that simply read, "For Jeon Jungkook :)". He picked the thing up and let the door fall closed on its own as he took it back to his desk. A bright blue bag with another banana milk sat on the top was placed neatly on his desk. The carton had another yellow sticky note on it.

"Looked like you could use this. It'll keep them cold until you get home. Keep it, alright, beautiful boy?"

Jungkook put the note and milk to the side and unzipped the bag. It had that shiny aluminum looking stuff on the inside. A freezer bag, he decided. He was about to reach over and pick up one of the banana milks when he noticed something blocking the reflective material in the bottom of the bag. Another banana milk and a sheet of paper.

"On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three turtle doves, two french hens, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Hey beautiful boy, I know you did great in there. Meetings are always stressful and I could see how hard you were working. I hope you like the banana milks, the label is my eight maids a milking."

Jungkook looked away from the letter and at one of the milks. On the label was a woman milking a cow with a smile on her face, all outlined in yellow. He grinned, creative bastard.

"Unfortunately, the store I bought them at only had seven and I couldn't find anymore, which is really disappointing. I'll make it up to you, I swear beautiful boy. Just you wait till we meet face to face ;)"

The brunette turn and counted the milks. Five, six, seven. He was right. Only seven. What was he going to do with out that eighth milk? His grin got bigger. It didn't matter, what was one less milk? He had enough to last him a couple days.

He began to load up, stacking the milks neatly inside the bag when a deep voice startled him and made him knock over the stack, "Banana milk, huh?"

Jungkook turned around, trying to keep his bulging eyes and thumping heart from being noticeable. The Min Yoongi, the Min Yoongi he had a crush on, was standing there in front of him, looking curiously at the bag of milks. "Oh, um, y-yeah. They're, um, they're my favorite."

"I can tell. How many do you have there?" Yoongi poked at the toppled tower.

"S-Seven. There's supposed to be e-eight, someone's gi-gifting me the twelve days of Christmas but th-they're missing one."

Yoongi hummed, "That's a shame." He paused, "Wait," He opened the paper bag he had with him and dug around in it, "Here," He set a carton with little yellow designs down on the brunette's desk, "My cousin left them at my house and it was all I had to pack in my lunch this morning." He smiled, "Now, it's eight."

Jungkook could feel his cheeks heating up, "Th-Th-Thank you." The brunette wanted to slap himself from all the stuttering he was doing.

"No problem. Enjoy those banana milks." And with that, as mysteriously as he came, he was gone.

Jungkook looked down at that eighth carton and smiled before tossing it into the bag. He certainly hoped he had enough room in his fridge for all of these.
