Day 1 Illogical_Theory - Marvel's Avengers ft. Loki

So welcome to the first day of the event! I hope you're all as excited as I am to read Illogical_Theory's awesome Marvel one-shot! I have to say, Loki's POV is a hard one to write, but this author did a great job. Don't forget to check out the other works on their profile😉

🎄

Loki loved mortal holidays. Most people would think he'd be the polar opposite, but there was something about the chaos of last minute shopping that put a smile on his face. Swapping prized items from one cart to another, casually tripping someone and knocking over their cart - anything unlucky, Loki made it happen. You could call it a guilty pleasure if he felt at all bad about it.

Aside from the mortal torment that came with Christmas sales, there was one other thing that Loki loved about this time of year: all the Avengers bundled up in the same place.

It was the only Yule present he needed (and the only one he'd get).

At the moment, he was standing on the roof of a building adjacent to Avengers Tower, planning his entrance. It couldn't be too flashy, or else they'd be suspicious, but there was no fun in doing anything bland. And of course he'd have to avoid Dr. Banner - after the Tesseract incident, he had no intention of conversing with the jolly green giant ever again.

Loki took in the blinking yellow lights surrounding the building, the fake ornaments attached to some of the windows - and Stark called him a full-blown diva, the nerve - and the giant Christmas tree situated at the front of the building.

Closing his eyes, he could see, even hear the team of heroes inside. There was Thor, Loki's adopted brother, holding a mug of ale and trying to explain the dangers of mistletoe (that brought back some memories; family is such a pain), Natasha Romanov scaling another large Christmas tree with ease, placing a star on the top. Stark was there as well, explaining to Banner the benefits of something called an "AI." And, finally... what was his name? The arrow guy. Loki vaguely remembered him being involved in his takeover of New York City, but that was such a long time ago, and his memories of the invasion were blurry enough already.

Clapping his hands, Loki opened his eyes, having decided on his course of actions. A smirk graced his features;  he took a second to praise himself as the lights wrapped around the Tower flashed green and the rest of the building was doused in darkness.

Inside, it was chaos, which was exactly what Loki had hoped for. Chaos was necessary to get him what he needed. As he'd blinked himself inside, the electricity had turned back on, except there'd been a few... alterations. For instance, the alarms now sounded like a poorly recorded version of the "John Cena" theme song. Every other light began to flicker on and off in different colors, and JARVIS, who had been inactive since the lights went off, began mumbling incoherent sentences that sounded suspiciously like every single monologue from the Star Wars movies played at the same time. All in all, it sounded like a modern version of hell, which was exactly what Loki had been going for.

Another perk of being a god? Invisibility. It gave Loki immense satisfaction as he stuck his foot out to trip an annoyed Captain America that happened to sprint past him. He'd missed the rush of excitement that came with tricking people.

Loki had to practically parkour around the rest of the heroes as they all rushed past him searching for the intruder. (It's worth mentioning that he tripped Thor as well. He went down how all Asgardians should; with dignity and a face full of beer.)

Once all the Avengers had moved past him, Loki focused on the more important task at hand: his scepter. He knew it was locked up safely in Stark's lab, but unfortunately for modern science, the scepter contained a certain gemstone that Loki would rather the mortals not have. Letting his shield of invisibility fade, Loki stepped into the lab, surveying the various machines and projects. A bright flash of blue caught his eye - the scepter. He felt a sudden flood of relief. A grin touched his face as Loki walked towards the pulse of blue that emanated from the Infinity Stone. He reached his hand out, letting his guard down for just a moment - then he heard the click of high heels, and the feeling of  cold metal against the back of his head.

Turning around, hands up, Loki gave a playful smirk that didn't reach his eyes. He looked at the Avengers spread out in front of him in that ridiculous theatrical stance they had; their expressions ranged from shocked to outraged to almost fearful. He looked at Romanov, who was holding the gun, eyes ice cold. Loki tried not to laugh. Getting caught was almost as good as getting away with it. He grinned fully for the first time in months, the smile wrinkling the corners of his eyes.

"Happy holidays. Bet you didn't see that coming, eh?"
