CHAPTER 4
Once I caught up with Bella she immediately started asking questions so fast I could not remember them all. "Did he ask you out? Did he kiss you? Did he give you his phone number and address telling you to meet him there at midnight?"
"Bella, for goodness sake, calm down. All that happened was he told me that I had better try my hardest when I tutor him." I said rolling my eyes.
I reach into my pocket for my phone and feel a slip of paper next to it. I pull it out and there
Was his phone number written in surprisingly neat handwriting. Bella looked over my shoulder and squealed.
"Don't look now, but he is standing there smirking at you." She obviously hadn't noticed what was in my hand. I quickly dragged her into the bathroom and silently handed her the slip of paper. 3...2...1... and my eardrums died.
After Bella had calmed down and my ears had stopped ringing, we went to the library to meet up with Brittney to study. As soon as we got there Bella ran over to where Brittney sat waiting for us and quickly explained why we were late. Brittney's original frown of annoyance quickly shifted into a look of shock.
"No way, you Ashley Pierce just got Bryan King's number on the first day of school. You beat me to being the first in the group to get a popular guy's number this year let alone Bryan King on the first day of school no less!" Before I can respond the librarian comes over to our table and not so nicely asks us to get out.
Since the study hall was almost over anyway, I went to my locker and got my books out of my locker. As soon as the bell rang, I went out to the parking lot where Kent and I agreed to meet after school to drive home together, only to find that Kent is not there. After a bit, the crowd in the parking lot began to thin and I was beginning to worry that Kent had gotten a ride home with one of his friends which would have been fine except for the fact that he had the car kays.
I reached for my phone, about to call him to ask where he was when it vibrated and Ken't picture popped up on the screen. I quickly answered it and immediately I started talking.
"Where are you? Are you okay? Why aren't you here?" I asked worried.
"What do you mean, I'm at basketball." Kent says before groaning. "You forgot, didn't you."
"Hey, you're the one who said we were going to meet in the parking lot." I say.
"No, I was the one who said 'that won't work because I have basketball after school today' after you said we would meet in the parking lot."
"That's not--- never mind. I'll be there in a minute." I said, sighing as I began the short walk to the gym.
When I got there, Kent was just passing the ball to Bryan who proceeded to jump up and throw the ball through the hoop. As he lands, he looks my way and smirks, before jogging over to the side to get water.
I get out my book, sitting down in a chair to the side and preparing for an hour of listening to the coach shout at the boys while I try not to listen and to focus on my book. I was only a couple minutes into my book when suddenly the book was grabbed out of my hands and I looked up to find a smirking Bryan.
"You know, I'm really starting to believe you're stalking me."
I glared up at him in response.
"Hey, get away from my sister!" We turn to find a very annoyed very confused Kent standing there glaring daggers at Bryan.
"Dude, chill, I was just teasing her." Bryan says looking back at Kent and I used his momentary distraction to snatch my book back and continue reading where I had left off before the book was so rudely taken away.
It was going to be a long night.
