2003 ― Tree Hill, North Carolina
Brooke and Brianna Davis, Haley James, and Peyton Sawyer sat in Brooke Davis' car. Peyton was driving, Haley was in the passenger seat, and Brianna was in the back with her sister, who was passed out. There was a song playing on the radio but not anything good, and Brianna felt like dancing, especially since they stuck her in the back with her drugged-out sister.
"We need some music," Brianna said as she leaned up between the seats. Peyton nodded her head in agreement and leaned forward to change the radio station, momentarily taking her eyes off the road.
When she looked away from the road, the car started to veer off. In a quick moment of panic, Haley grabbed the wheel to bring the car back onto the road. "Peyton!" Haley exclaimed. Peyton quickly sat up and regained control of the car.
"Sorry," Peyton said. Brooke jolted awake when Peyton veered the car back onto the correct side of the road and she looked around as she groaned.
"Where the hell are we?" Brooke asked.
"Miles from normal," Haley said. Brooke was confused by the unfamiliar voice and she was confused and surprised to see Haley. She knew that Brianna was Haley's friend, but she never expected to be in a car with her.
"What is she doing here?" Brooke asked.
"You invited her, Brookie," Brianna said. Brooke was even more confused at that revelation. Peyton found a good station and blasted the music which caused Brooke to wince in pain as her head was aching.
"Ow!" Brooke whined as she grabbed her head.
"Nice, what's next?" Brianna asked after the song ended her, Haley, and Peyton's little jam session.
"Why don't we let Haley pick?" Peyton said. Brooke and Brianna looked surprised at Peyton's comment. Whenever they all drove together, Peyton always picked the music, no matter whose car they were driving.
"Alright," Haley said as she reached forward to change the station, but then Peyton pulled the car to a hard stop. Brianna and Brooke had jerked forward and when they recovered, they looked up to see what caused Peyton to stop so abruptly, and they were shocked by what they saw.
Lucas and Nathan, together, in the middle of the street.
"What the...-" Peyton cut Brianna off.
"...-Could this night get any freakier?" Peyton asked.
"Nathan with Lucas...-" Brianna cut Haley off.
"...-And they're not killing each other?" Brianna asked.
From outside of the car, Nathan and Lucas looked just as confused to see the four of them together. "Why is Haley with Peyton and Brianna?" Lucas asked. Brooke sat up from the backseat of the car and looked at the scene in front of her. She was just as confused as everyone else.
"What the hell is going on?"

12 hours earlier
"Hey, strangers," Brianna said as she approached Lucas and Haley while they were walking outside of school. Between tutoring Nathan, studying for midterms, and cheerleading, Brianna hasn't seen her other best friends as often as she'd like, and she really missed them.
"Hmm, no stranger than you." Lucas teased, and Brianna rolled her eyes.
"Hmm..." She said while shaking her head.
"Did you get my messages last night?" Lucas asked and she shook her head.
"No, I'm sorry. I was at the library late. Midterms." She explained.
"Hmm, yours or Nathan's?" Haley asked as she winked at her. Brianna could hear the teasing in her voice and she rolled her eyes.
"Both, actually," Brianna said.
"Well, good luck with that," Lucas said in a monotone, which made Brianna think about last week at the father-son game, where Lucas had basically called her a liar and said he didn't trust her. That was another reason why she hadn't been coming around as often.
"Luke... you're cool with this, right? I mean last week when you said you didn't trust me." Brianna trailed off and Lucas sighed.
"I know, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean that alright? I meant that I don't trust Nathan." Lucas said. Brianna nodded her head as Peyton approached the three of them.
"Hey, you got a second?" Peyton asked. She was looking at Lucas and Haley grabbed Brianna's arm.
"Speaking of..." Haley said as she pulled the two of them away.
"Bree, hey!" The girls heard. When they turned, Nathan was approaching them, and Haley unlinked her arm from Brianna's.
"And I excuse myself again," Haley said. Brianna smiled as her friend walked away and then she looked at Nathan.
"Hey." She greeted Nathan with a smile. She has been enjoying tutoring him, it's actually helped her get to know the real him. She would deny it if she were ever asked, but Nathan wasn't that bad of a guy. She could tell the facade and tough exterior that he puts on is just a defense mechanism so that he doesn't have to be vulnerable. And he uses it so he can shut out the pain of what his father has put him through.
"Coming to the game tonight?" He asked, and Brianna laughed.
"You're teasing me, right? You know I'm the co-captain of the cheerleaders." Brianna said, and Nathan nodded his head.
"I know... it's just the more I get to know you, the more you don't seem like a cheerleader." Nathan said, and Brianna laughed. She's heard that a lot, especially from Lucas and Haley. But she's been cheering with Brooke and Peyton since elementary school, it's their thing. "But, as you know, we always beat the crap out of the Pickerington Hicks." He said, and Brianna laughed.
"Just because you call them Hicks, I hope they win tonight." Brianna teased and Nathan playfully rolled his eyes.
"That's not very Tree Hill captain-like." He said and the two of them laughed again. "See you on the sidelines, Bree."

After school, Brianna and Brooke Davis went to Peyton's house. Brooke hasn't spoken to Peyton since Peyton blew up on her at practice. Brooke still didn't put together what had caused Peyton to snap like that, and Brianna didn't say anything. She figured Brooke needed to put the pieces together by herself.
Brooke waved the white underwear she had in her hands as they walked into Peyton's room. "Is it safe yet? No hostile tone, no bitter complaints, no yelling at your best friend because you broke up with your jerk of a boyfriend?" Brooke asked, and Brianna sighed. Peyton just smiled.
"Oh my gosh, is Peyton Sawyer smiling?" Brianna teased. Peyton rolled her eyes as she looked at the twins.
"Alright, I was a mess last week. I'm sorry." Peyton said and then she winked at Brianna since Brianna knew why. She didn't think Peyton should have to apologize. It was the anniversary of her mother's death, she had every right to act out of whack. Brianna would never discredit her sister as a friend though, Brooke is an amazing friend, you'll never find anyone more loyal than her.
But she is pretty self-centered at times.
"Apology accepted because I love you! Now, get your skinny ass up, and let's go beat the Pirates." Brooke said. She did a couple of cheer moves in front of Peyton's webcam and then she flashed her underwear which made Brianna shake her head as she and Peyton laughed. Brianna did love how outgoing her sister was.
"Classy, Brookie." Brianna teased, and Peyton shook her head.
"What are you doing?" Peyton asked.
"What? It's a webcam. It's what they're for. Come on." Brooke said as she walked over to Peyton. "Overweight. Now we're even." Brooke said as she threw her pom poms on Peyton.
"You're dead!" Peyton exclaimed as she hopped out of her bed and chased Brooke out of the door. Brianna shook her head as she grabbed her sister's pom poms and followed them out.
She was glad things were back on track.

Brooke, Peyton, and Brianna all drove together in Brooke's car to the game. It was an away game, so the boys were wearing their blue jerseys instead of their white ones. The cheerleaders were on the sidelines, and Brianna was sitting on the ground stretching out while the guys were going through their warmups. Peyton and Brooke were standing over Brianna so she could still be involved in the conversation.
"Oh, see. Lucas is even hotter in blue. You should totally hook up with him." Brooke said.
"Stop it," Peyton said.
"What? At the very least, you're due for a little rebound action unless you're still into Nathan." Brooke said, and Peyton rolled her eyes.
"I'm not." She said while shaking her head.
"Alright, since you're my pal, you can have a courtesy hold on Lucas for the weekend. After that, he's fair game." Brooke said, and Brianna rolled her eyes. Lucas isn't some prize to be won or called 'dibs' over. He's a real human being with real feelings.
And he's been in love with Peyton since 8th grade.
"He's already fair game, thanks," Peyton said, and then Brooke looked down at Brianna who was stretching out her legs. She guessed it was her turn for whatever Brooke was thinking, but she didn't know what could make Brooke want to flip the script on her. Brianna doesn't really date. She has had her first kiss, but she's still a virgin. There hasn't been anyone to catch her eye that she's been very interested in.
"And you, little miss. I heard an interesting story about you that I couldn't believe you didn't tell me on your own. You're tutoring Nathan?" Brooke asked, and Brianna shrugged.
"It's not like it's a secret, Brooke. Yeah, I am." Brianna said.
"And you hang out with Lucas... right? So, Peyton and I are just supposed to believe that you're just friends with both of them?" Brooke asked, and Brianna raised an eyebrow.
"Brookie, are you insinuating that I am a Scott Brother's whore of some kind?" Brianna asked, and Peyton started to laugh while shaking her head. Brooke rolled her eyes. Brianna looked up at the court, and she caught Nathan's eye. He smiled at her and threw his head back in a nod and Brooke squealed when she noticed it.
"Did you say that?" Brooke asked.
"What?" Peyton asked.
"Nathan just gave my sister 'the nod' how did you not see it?" Brooke asked, and Brianna rolled her eyes. She didn't think that nod meant anything. She figured that it was Nathan's way of saying hi to her without making it super obvious by waving or yelling her name.
"What nod, Brooke?" Brianna asked.
"The 'let's hook up after the game' nod." She said, and Brianna rolled her eyes. "Want to know what I think?" She asked as Brianna stood up from the ground after she was done stretching.
"Not exactly, but I'm sure you'll tell us anyway," Brianna said, and Peyton laughed.
"I think that Nathan likes you, tutor girl," Brooke said as she pointed to her sister. "But I think tutor girl likes Lucas, and I know I like Lucas," Brooke said, and Brianna shook her head. Then Brooke turned to Peyton. "And I don't know who the hell you like anymore. But this is all turning into one big love rectangle plus one, whatever that is." Brooke said.
"Pentagon, Brooke. It's a pentagon." Brianna said.
"See, tutor girl already knows," Brooke said.
"Is tutor girl some kind of revenge for me always calling you Brookie?" Brianna asked. Brooke looked at her sister with a smirk on her face which gave Brianna the answer she needed. "Fair enough. But I don't like Lucas, he's just my friend, nothing more. If either of you wants him? He's all yours." Brianna said as she shook her head.
"Perfect."
⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎
During the game, Brianna could tell that things were tense between Lucas and Nathan. They weren't playing together, they kept bickering with each other and giving each other dirty looks. Lucas was about to inbound the ball, and he was standing on the same side as the cheerleaders. He turned to Peyton.
"Hey, so I saw Nathan in the shower... yeah, no wonder you broke up with him," Lucas said, and then he inbounded the ball and ran onto the court. Peyton's eyes widened while the Davis twins started laughing. While that was mean, it was also funny, and from the crap that Nathan has pulled over on Lucas, he deserved it a little.
As they continued to bicker, Nathan threw the basketball at Lucas, but he wasn't passing it to him, he was trying to hurt him with it. Lucas stormed over to Nathan and tackled him to the ground. As the two began to fight, the refs and the boys on the raven's team were trying to break them up, but they were too stubborn.
They wrestled each other to the ground and tumbled their way over to the cheerleaders. The refs continued to blow the whistle as they fought, and they rolled right into Brooke, knocked her down, and continued to fight on top of her, despite her cries of pain. "Hey, if you knuckleheads couldn't tell, you're literally fighting on top of my sister!" Brianna yelled at them.
The rest of the guys on the raven's team was able to finally split them up as Whitey ran over. "Hey!" Whitey yelled as the ref ran over to where they were. Brianna and Peyton were on the ground with Brooke, who was holding her ankle.
"You two! You're out of here!" The ref yelled. Whitey's face paled as he looked at the ref in disbelief. He just threw out his two best players.
"You're throwing both of them out of the game?" Whitey asked. The ref looked at him and shrugged.
"I got to, Coach. I gotta keep things rolling." He said, and then he ran off to the other side of the gym. Whitey glared as he ran to the other side.
"They're on the same team!" Whitey yelled. He was mainly yelling that for Lucas and Nathan. The ref clearly knew they were on the same team.
"Ow! Pain," Brooke said. Brianna and Peyton helped her off of the ground, and they took her back to the athletic training room. Brooke was done for the rest of the game, and Brianna put Bevin in charge of leading the girls while she and Peyton were with Brooke. She knew they would miss the rest of the game, and that was fine.
Brianna didn't know how long they were waiting, but she assumed the game ended when she saw Haley coming down the hallway. "Hey, Hales... what are you still doing here?" She asked.
"I'm thinking of transferring." Haley teased, which made Brianna laugh. "What's your excuse?" She asked.
"Brooke, she's been in there forever. Plus, we all rode together, so." Peyton said, and Haley nodded her head.
"Peyton! Bree!" Brooke exclaimed. Peyton and Brianna turned around to see Brooke trying to run down the hallway, but she was stumbling because she was high on painkillers. When she reached her best friend and sister, she threw her arms around them.
"Oh boy," Peyton said.
"Hi." The girls looked up when they heard a deeper voice, and they saw a young student approaching them. Brianna quickly put together he must be the athletic trainer that gave her whatever pills she was on.
"This is my twin sister Brianna," Brooke said as she started touching her sister's face. "And this is Peyton." She said while messing with her hair. "And they are my best friends in the whole wide world. Don't you think they're pretty?" Brooke asked, and then she tried to make a serious face. "But don't touch my sister! She's dating the captain of the basketball team." Brooke said, and Brianna's eyes widened.
"That is not the truth, and what did you give her?" Brianna asked the trainer.
"She found some pills... on the floor. She'll be fine, just let her sleep it off." He said before quickly walking away from the girls. Brianna and Peyton knew he was lying because Brooke would never put anything in her mouth that's been on the ground.
"Hey! Ooh, call me!" Brooke exclaimed as he was walking away. She tried to chase after him but ended up tripping and falling into Haley's arms. Brianna gave her friend an apologetic look before grabbing her sister before Haley fell as well because she was not ready to catch Brooke.
"We should totally hang out more... What's your name?" Brooke asked Haley.
"Haley." She responded. Brooke quickly shook her head.
"Yeah. I don't like that name. Let's call you... Brooke!" She exclaimed, and Brianna shook her head. They needed to get Brooke in the car, get her home, and get her to bed. Peyton pulled the car around to the front of the building and then relieved Haley to help Brianna get her sister in the car. "Hi, friend!" Brooke exclaimed when Peyton approached.
"Thanks," Peyton said to Haley. Brianna and Peyton got Brooke into the backseat, and Brianna sighed.
"I'll see you guys later," Haley said as she was about to walk off, but then Brianna looked around.
"Wait, Hales... how are you getting back?" Brianna asked.
"Oh, I'm gonna take the last fan bus back," Haley said. Peyton and Brianna exchanged awkward glances because the bus pulled off as they were bringing Brooke outside.
"It just left," Peyton said.
"That's perfect! Brookie can come with us!" Brooke exclaimed from the backseat. Brianna turned to her sister and shook her head.
"Honey, you are Brooke, and you're already with us. I think you mean Haley can come with us." Brianna said. Brooke shook her head as she started pouting, and Brianna rolled her eyes. Haley noticed Peyton's confused look, and she cleared her throat.
"Yeah, she named me Brooke," Haley said, and Peyton shook her head.
"Peyton, can she come? Please?" Brooke begged. Peyton looked at Brianna, and the brunette nodded her head. Haley had no other way to get home, and Brianna wasn't going to leave her stranded.
"Just don't touch the stereo, or we'll have a problem," Peyton said, and Brianna laughed slightly. Peyton was always the music person whenever they drove. She always had a playlist ready.
"You won't have to worry about that because Brooke here will be riding in the back with Brooke," Brianna said while wrapping her arm around Haley as she smiled. Haley quickly shook her head.
"Oh, no, you don't. She is your sister, so you will ride in the back with her." Haley said, and Peyton laughed. Brianna frowned while crossing her arms over her chest.
"No fair." She said.
"Suck it up, baby. Get in the back." Peyton teased. Brianna rolled her eyes, but she opened the back door and got in, joining her sister in the backseat while Peyton and Haley got up front.
Brianna was now regretting her decision not to drive.
"Roadtrip!" Brooke yelled, and then she started singing. "We're going on a road trip, we're going on a road trip, we're going on a road trip." She repeated, much to Brianna's dismay, and she sighed as she sank into her seat.
"Kill me now."
⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎
As Peyton was driving, Brooke was sitting up and hitting Peyton with her pom poms. Brianna was trying to stop her, but since Brooke was so high, she had a lot of fights in her. "Brooke, come on!" Peyton exclaimed. Brooke shrugged her shoulders and threw her pom poms out of the window. Brianna knew when the drugs wore off, she was not going to be happy about that one.
"Wait..." Brooke trailed off as she looked between her sister and Peyton. "Don't you two like the same guy?" She asked. Peyton momentarily glanced at Brianna before she turned back to the road. Brianna quickly shook her head.
"I'm just tutoring him, that's all," Brianna said.
"So, you're not into him? Because he seems into you." Peyton said. Brianna raised an eyebrow as she looked at Peyton. They're best friends, and no matter what Brianna feels, she couldn't date Nathan. The number one rule of girl code is you never date your best friend's ex.
"Peyton, you're my best friend, he's your ex... girl code," Brianna said.
"He gave her the nod!" Brooke exclaimed.
"In this situation, screw girl code. What Nathan and I had could barely be classified as a relationship. But... be careful." Peyton said.
"Well, what about you and Lucas?" Haley asked. Brianna was grateful for the spotlight to be off of her. She had no idea what she felt towards Nathan if she felt anything.
"What about us?" Peyton asked. Brianna rolled her eyes at Peyton's attempt to act oblivious.
"Oh, come on! Tortured artists meets tortured athlete. Talk about your obvious attraction." Haley said. Brianna leaned up from the backseat to place herself between them.
"She's right, Peyton. You and Lucas are pretty much a romance novel waiting to happen." Brianna said. Then Brooke's car started beeping to indicate that it was running out of gas, and the girls were in the middle of nowhere.
"Unbelievable! Brooke, did you not think to put gas in the car?" Peyton asked. Brooke turned to Haley and waited for her to answer.
"Answer the question, Brooke." She said to Haley as the car stopped when it had officially run out of gas. "Why are we stopping?" She asked. Haley, Peyton, and Brianna got out of the car and tried to get signals on their cellphones, but they weren't getting any bars.
"Still no signal. Who lives like this?" Peyton asked, and Brianna laughed.
"Hey, pop the trunk, would you?" Haley said. Peyton nodded her head and went back to the car, and opened up the door so she could press the button to pop the trunk.
"Peyton, don't listen. It might be a trick." Brooke said, and Peyton shook her head.
"Yeah, it's empty," Haley said.
"I saw a gas station a few miles back. If I'm not back in an hour. Tell loopy Brooke that I love her." Brianna said.
"Don't you mean Nathan?" Haley teased, and the girls laughed while Brianna rolled her eyes.
"I'll go with you," Peyton said.
"Me too," Haley said.
"Wait, someone should stay with Brooke, it's the middle of nowhere, and she's super high on painkillers, we can't leave her by herself," Brianna said, and the girls nodded their heads.
"Okay, you two go. I'll stay with Brooke." Haley said, and Peyton nodded her head.
"Keep the doors locked until we get back, okay?" Peyton said, and Haley nodded her head as she got back in the car with Brooke.
Peyton and Brianna headed in the direction of the gas station.
⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎
"Hey... what did you mean before? About Nathan, what you said before?" Brianna asked Peyton after they had been walking in silence for a few moments. She wasn't entirely sure how she felt about Nathan. She could see he wasn't as much of an asshole as he pretended to be, but she didn't know if that meant she had feelings for him or if she was just finally seeing him as his own person and not the spawn of Satan.
"I just know him, that's all. I know you didn't like to hang around me and Brooke when we were with Nathan and the rest of the guys, but you know." Peyton said while shrugging her shoulders.
"Says the ex-girlfriend." Brianna teased, and Peyton shook her head.
"Look, Bree, you know. Nathan and I were crazy with drama, but I'm over it. He's not a complete waste. He's just... He's really threatened by Lucas. It could all just be a big mind game. That's how he works... Do you like him?" Peyton asked.
"I mean, we just talk about stuff, you know what I mean?" Brianna asked.
"Like what?" Peyton asked.
"Like school... or his dad," Brianna said. Peyton nodded her head as she scoffed a little.
"Oh, Dan. Danny sure did a number on his boy, right?" Peyton asked, and Brianna nodded her head.
"Both of them," Brianna said.
"So, you didn't answer my question, Bree. Do you like him?" Peyton asked.
"It... it doesn't matter. I mean... it would just be weird around Lucas and you... Like I said earlier, girl code." Brianna said, and Peyton shook her head.
"That's Luke's problem, and like I said... to hell with girl code. It could be my problem too, but I don't have a problem with it. You have a life to live, too, Bree, and if you know and like a different side of Nathan that I never got a chance to see. I say go for it." Peyton said, and Brianna frowned.
"It just seems kind of selfish." She said while shrugging her shoulders.
"Why? Did Lucas ask you if he could go out with me?" Peyton asked. Brianna shook her head, and then she raised an eyebrow.
"Wait, did he ask you out?" Brianna asked.
"No," Peyton said, and the girls laughed. "But that's not the point. The point is, Lucas wouldn't ask permission, so why should you?" Peyton asked. Brianna stopped walking and wrapped her arms around Peyton. The blonde was slightly caught off guard, but she hugged her best friend back. Brianna didn't expect Peyton to be this supportive. It was part of the reason why Brianna was scared about developing feelings for Nathan. She didn't want Peyton to hate her.
"Would you say yes if he asked you out?" Brianna asked Peyton when they pulled away from their hug.
"It depends. What song is playing... Am I in a mood? Is he smiling when he asks, or is he doing that goofy broody thing that he does?" Peyton said. Brianna started laughing.
"You know he's doing the broody thing," Brianna said.
"He does it all the time!" Peyton exclaimed, and they laughed again.
"It's strange. Just... the night away from school, and it feels like we live on a completely different planet." Brianna said as she let out a deep breath.
"Life plays tricks on you like that," Peyton said, and Brianna smiled.
"How do you think Haley is holding up with Brooke?" Brianna asked, and Peyton laughed.
"Let's put some more pep in our steps."
⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎
Brianna and Peyton made it to the gas station, and when they approached the door, all the lights were off. Brianna thought it was normal for gas stations to be open 24/7, but now she was guessing she was wrong about that. Peyton groaned as they walked away from the door, and she ran her fingers through her hair.
"Great! And no phone. What are we gonna do?" She asked. Brianna started looking around, and then she noticed a pick-up truck.
"Oh, yes!" Brianna exclaimed as she slowly approached the truck, and once she saw that nobody was in it, she started walking faster.
"So, what are you doing?" Peyton asked.
"Um, here... hold this," Brianna said as she took a pocket knife out of her jacket pocket. Peyton's eyes widened because she had no idea that Brianna carried a pocket knife on her.
"Or you'll stab me?" Peyton teased, and Brianna laughed.
"Beck gave it to me. Safety and all that, right? Here, try and get that gas cap open, will you?" Brianna asked, and Peyton nodded her head as she approached the truck.
"Does this really work? And how is Beck, by the way? Have you talked to him recently?" Peyton asked. Brianna nodded as she sighed. Her brother Beckham was sent away to boarding school because of 'behavioral issues.'
"To answer your first question, we're about to find out. To answer your second question, yeah, I talked to him a couple of nights ago... and to answer the question I know you have, no, I didn't tell him that I'm tutoring Nathan. I did not want him to freak out." Brianna said.
Nathan and Beckham did not get along at all. Beckham was also Lucas and Haley's best friend, the four of them would hang out all the time, and Beckham always had the biggest crush on Haley. He hated how Nathan treated Lucas, but like Nathan, Beckham was also a star basketball player, and although he and Nathan didn't get along off the court, you would've thought they were best friends when you saw them play together.
Since Beckham wasn't related to him, Nathan could get over his animosity during game time and work with Beckham because he knew that Beckham was the other best player on the team. They played well together on the court, but off the court, they were anything but friendly. Brianna knew that Beckham would freak out if he knew that she was spending time with Nathan, even if she was just tutoring him.
"Well, if he ever comes home and finds out on his own, he'll definitely freak out," Peyton said.
"I know, and I'll cross that bridge if we come to it," Brianna said as she grabbed the tube and put one end inside of the truck's gas tank, and then she started to suck on the other end.
"Had a lot of practice?" Peyton asked. Brianna's eyes widened as she looked up at her best friend, and Peyton laughed. "At sucking gas. What did you think I meant?" She said. Brianna rolled her eyes as she took the tube out of her mouth.
"You know exactly what you were insinuating," Brianna said, and the girls shared a laugh.
"Watch out for the golf ball," Peyton said. Brianna put the tube inside the gas can as the gas started to come out.
"Oh yeah!" Brianna exclaimed.
"Are you kidding?" Peyton asked with a smile on her face. The girls were relieved that they weren't going to be stranded. "Dude, who knew that you were like the fourth Charlie's Angel?" Peyton said, and Brianna laughed.
"Come on, let's get back and make sure Haley didn't kill Brooke."
⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎⇎
When the girls got back, Haley told them that Brooke passed out shortly after they left, and she's been asleep ever since. Brianna refilled the gas tank while Peyton told Haley what happened and how Brianna sucked the gas out to fill the can. The girls got back into the car, Brianna lifted Brooke's legs so she could sit down, and then she put Brooke's legs over her lap. Once everyone was situated, Peyton got back on the road.
"He cares about you, you know?" Brianna said to Peyton. Peyton knew she was talking about Lucas, and then she sighed.
"We need some music," Peyton said as she reached out to change the radio station. She momentarily took her eyes off the road, and the car began to swerve.
"Peyton!" Haley exclaimed as she grabbed the wheel in a moment of panic. Peyton quickly put her hands back on the wheel and moved back to the correct side of the road.
"Sorry," Peyton said. Brooke jolted awake by the sudden movement in the car, and she groaned as she looked around at her surroundings.
"Where the hell are we?" She asked.
"Miles from normal," Haley said. Brooke looked at her in confusion. Brianna could tell the drugs had worn off a bit, and Brooke was sobering up. But she had no memory of the game and what happened after.
"What is she doing here?" Brooke asked. She knew Haley was Brianna's friend, but that didn't explain why she was in the car with them.
"You invited her, Brookie," Brianna said. Brooke looked at her sister, and she was even more confused. When Peyton found a station she liked, she turned the music up loud, and Brooke winced as she grabbed her head.
"Ow!" Brooke exclaimed. Haley, Peyton, and Brianna jammed out to the rest of the song, and when it ended, Brianna smiled.
"Nice, what's next?" She asked.
"Why don't we let Haley pick?" Peyton said. Brianna raised an eyebrow in shock. Usually, Peyton always chose the music, she rarely let anyone else pick the stations.
"Alright," Haley said as she leaned forward to change the radio.
"This is so tragic. You two don't actually think you're going to be friends tomorrow, do you?" Brooke asked. Brianna, Peyton, and Haley all frowned at her words because they were all thinking she was right. Haley is Brianna's friend, but she's not Peyton or Brooke's friend. They live in two different worlds. But then it also made Brianna sad because she realized she fit into Haley's world more than Peyton and Brooke's. She knew that if she wasn't Brooke's twin or a cheerleader.
They probably wouldn't be friends.
