Chapter 14: Date Night

When The Dojo was under the procedure of an early closing, Michelangelo saw this as a perfect opportunity to assort his girlfriend, famous actress Renet Tilley, out for a date night. The couple left shortly after their new friend April was sent to Mr Hamato's office. Though the couple worried about the outcome for Ms O'Neil's future at The Dojo, they both tried to remain optimistic that she would just "give a stern talk, a warning, then things will go back to like nothing happened" as Renet advised April earlier that night.

With a cheer of his famous catchphrase, "Booyakasha!" Mikey and Renet happily skipped out of The Dojo and into the streets of New York City. Outside The Dojo, the couple were instantly surrounded by fans and reporters alike, many asking questions while others asked for autographs from their favorite celebrity power couple.

After a few autographs signed and pictures taken for the press, the young couple squeezed past the adoring crowd and were escorted safely into Renet's limousine, an elegant black vehicle with clean white tires, with a spare on the side near the driver's seat. Once in the car, Mikey gives Renet's driver the request of the location he desires to go for their date.

Renet wasn't at all surprised by the location of where Mikey wanted to have dinner. It's his favorite restaurant and one of the best in the whole city. Murakami's, run by the owner who shares the name of his establishment and long time friend of the Hamato family, Mr Murakami.

"Sometimes I think you love that restaurant more than me," Renet jokes as her driver begins taking them to their destination.

"Nonsense! There's nothing in this world that I love more than you. But know that Murakami's food was my first love, so you have some competition, darling," Mikey smiles, as Renet giggles from his tease.

"You always manage to get a chuckle out of me. I'm surprised you never took up comedy as your talent instead of singing."

"You know, I would like to someday. I think I got what it takes," Mikey says happily, "Speaking of which, I've heard there's a new comedy club down the road. Maybe we could go check it out one night?"

Renet smiles, "Sounds like fun!"

It wasn't long before the couple reached their destination. Renet's driver parked in front of the restaurant's building, and exited the car to open the car door for Mikey and Renet. The couple leave the vehicle and enter the restaurant where they were imminently greeted by the host who quickly escorted them to their table. Great luck for them since it was a busy night at Murakami's, but thanks to Mikey being good friends with the owner, they always have a table reserved for him and anyone he brings.

Like the gentleman his mother raised him to be, Mikey helps Renet take off her glamorous white fur coat then pulls out a chair for her to sit down in. Once settled he pushed her chair closer to the table, then joined Renet sitting in the chair across the small table from her.

Soon a waiter came by, giving the couple menus as well as fresh glasses and a pitcher of water. Once the glasses were full, the couple were left to look over their options on the menu and chat.

"So, do you plan on throwing your birthday party here?" Renet asked as she sipped her drink, "I heard your father wants to throw a grand party for you, just like he did when your siblings also turned 21, and you get to pick the location."

Michelangelo is the youngest of the four Hamato brothers, with him turning 21 by the end of next month. His brothers Raphael and Donatello are 22, with Raph being older by a few months. Then there's Leonardo who is the oldest son at age 23 while his sister, Karai, is the overall oldest Hamato sibling being at the age of 24.

Mikey smiles with excitement, "Yeah, I think I will have my birthday party here!" He begins looking around the restaurant, admiring the atmosphere and decor. A beautiful black and white checkered floor with dark wooden trim on the walls. The crystal chandeliers complimented the room with his glamorous shine. Each table was draped in clean white cloths and warm lit candles on each one, "I think this is the perfect place for the occasion."

Murakami's is a fancy establishment, only welcoming the richest and high class people in town, similar to how The Dojo obertates. Once The Dojo gained enough popularity and the attention of the more glamorous people in the city, Splinter made his club a secluded establishment, only allowing the people of high class to enter. Those of middle class were only lucky enough to get in through working at the establishment, like Casey, Slash, and April, while anyone else in the lower class were left only to admire the club from the outside, never welcomed to join in the fun. This change was made years ago when Mikey and his siblings were still young, but it still disappointed him. He knew that wasn't what The Dojo's intentions were in the beginning, that was not what his mother wanted.

"Music is for everyone!" Mikey vividly remembers his mother once telling him, "It's a beautiful gift in this world that brings people together. It shouldn't be sheltered or kept away from others. It should flourish and be admired by all!"

However, as time went on, things changed. The Dojo changed. His family changed.

"Have you decided on your guest list?" Renet asked, having Mikey snap out of his thoughts.

"Huh? Oh, yeah! I'm planning on inviting everyone who works at The Dojo. They're just as much of my family to me as my actual family are."

"Aww, that's so sweet of you! I'm sure they'll all appreciate that you invited them. Do you plan on inviting your sister?"

"I want to, but I don't know where she is," Mikey says sadly, "Karai is always traveling so it's a gamble to guess where she is. She always sends me postcards, but she never stays in the same location long enough for me to mail her an invitation," Mikey sits back in his seat and sighs, "She's been gone for so long though... I doubt that she'll come back."

Renet reached across the table and rested her hand on his to comfort him, "I'm sure she will," she tells him with a reassuring smile, "She's your sister and she loves you. She wouldn't miss her little brother's birthday."

Mikey smiles at Renet, feeling hopeful from her words. Even though Karai has been gone for a long time, he has some hope that she'll return back home one day.

"You know, speaking of my sister, I was thinking of inviting one more person."

"Really? Who?"

"Shinigami."

"Shinigami? Really?" Renet asked, shocked.

Mikey nods happily, "She's my friend, and there was a time not too long ago where she was like family to me. Her and Karai were really close, it was like having another sister around, and I want ALL of my family at my party."

"Well, that's great! I love Shini! I haven't seen her in what felt like ages!" Renet's attitude then changes from happiness to slight worry, "But..."

"But?..."

"But how will your brother react when he sees her?" Renet asked worriedly, "I know those two didn't end on a good note because of... the incident."

"I'm sure it's water under the bridge between her and Leo by now," Mikey says joyfully, shrugging off the thought of any negative consequences, "And if not, I'm sure I can get them to make up beforehand!"

"B-But what if-"

"Let's not worry about any more party planning!" Mikey says cheerfully as he grabs his glass and holds it up high, "Let's just enjoy the rest of our evening with each other."

Renet knew there was no chance in her trying to convince Mikey otherwise. He may be kindhearted, but he's very naïve about the world and how other people think and feel. Not everyone is like him to forgive and forget, and he struggles to realize that. It is one of the main reasons Renet knows why Mikey would never be able to inherit his father's business. Though he has a heart of gold, he lacks maturity and perception.

Renet takes a deep breath and smiles at her turtle boyfriend, taking her glass and raising it as well. Gently their glass clink and they sip their waters.

Soon a waiter came by and the couple ordered their meals. For Renet a Cobb Salad and for Mikey he ordered his favorite dish, a Murakami original, Pizza Gyoza.

Once the waiter left with their orders, the couple continued their conversation.

"Back to the subject of Shinigami..." Renet says, "How has she been?"

"I haven't been in touch with her..."

Renet sighs with shame, "Me neither..."

"But I heard she opened up a psychic shop downtown. I actually saw her ad in the paper this morning!"

"Good for her!" Renet said happily, mixed with a tone of relief. She was worried for her old friend after her confrontation with Leo and what the results did to her life afterwards. Renet was relieved to know her friend is still doing well, "A psychic shop sounds perfect for her. She always loved doing palm readings and playing with tarot cards, so I have no doubt that she's happy where she is now. We should go and visit her someday, and even get a reading from her about our futures!"

"Why would you want to know about our futures?" Mikey asked, "Isn't not knowing part of the fun?"

"I guess..." Renet shrugs, "But I remember Shini used to always give me career advice using her tarot cards on her breaks and her predictions were always correct! I would like to know if I should take the offer I was given."

"What offer?"

"Oh! Goodness, I forgot to mention! I was offered a new gig. I'd be a part of those projects similar to what that Chaplin fellow has been doing. I would no longer be doing plays on Broadway, I'd be expanding my career to moving pictures!"

"You're going to be in a talkie?! That's amazing!"

"I might be," Renet tells him, "I didn't accept the offer just yet. That's why I wanted to see Shini, to get her thoughts and use her cards to see if this is the right choice for me to take in my career. Plus, it never hurts to go and support an old friend."

Mikey chuckles, "I guess you're right. Well, we can go and visit, you can get a reading from her, but I won't. I'm happy living in the unknown."

"So, you don't think about anything that may come your way in the future?" Renet asked.

Mikey shrugs, "Not really."

"Nothing at all?" Renet asked in a coy tone, "No big life changing decisions you might make down the road? Decisions that could change our lives and our relationship forever?"

Mikey tilts his head, confused by where Renet was going with her words, "...Like what?"

"Like..." she blushes, "Marriage?"

Author's Notes:

While this fanfic is intended to be an AU for the 2012 series specifically, I made each of the turtles different ages in this AU instead of them all being the same age like in canon for the sake of the AU's story, character dynamics/relationships, and each of the turtles individual plots.
