Chapter Fifty Two
I was late, but somehow, Anakin was later. He arrived some ten minutes after me, hurrying down the corridors towards me.
"I think you just broke your own record," I muse, smirking. He rolls his eyes playfully, ignoring the look he gets from another Jedi as we pass them.
"Well I'm sorry Snips, I had stuff to do," he retorted sarcastically as he gestured towards me, nodding towards the direction of the (recently fixed) hanger.
"Of course. So what's happening today, Master?"
"We're going to Naboo. Senator Amidala decided it's probably safer to go ahead of schedule, so we don't get held up," he explained as we slipped through the blast doors and into the hanger.
"Are we still taking Lux?"
"Yes. That's why we're going. But I'm just dropping you off as Rex and Obi Wan need me," he moans, shaking his head, "I could do with a break,"
"The Chosen One doesn't get breaks. He's supposed to be saving the galaxy," I joke, smirking playfully at him.
"Thanks for the reminder Snips. That really made me feel better," he groans. He leads me over to one of his many ships and we head in. I glance at the sparks flying from the bottom of the ramp.
"Is this thing safe?" I enquire, generally concerned for our safety. Anakin waves his hand dismissively and walks passed it, totally relaxed.
"If you say so," I mutter under my breath, steering clear of the sparks. Inside, the faint smell of smoke lingers and the damage in general screams Anakin Skywalker. I kick a couple of bolts into the corner as I slide into my chair. It squeaks loudly as I turn it, making me wince.
"I can't deal with this. I'm oiling it," I tell Anakin, as I get up to fetch some oil. To be honest I might just leave the flying with Skyguy and fix what I can. I refuse to fly in a broken metal tin. Anakin can say what he likes, I still hate this ship.
I can also tell what Anakin is doing, because an alarm goes off and I hear a hiss of smoke emitting from somewhere behind me.
"Where's R2 when you need him?" I moan, before adding, "I'll fix that too,"
"Padme has him," my Master states, pulling the control panel to pieces and glancing inside. I sigh, putting the oil back and chasing after a lever as it rolls across the floor. As I head back I collect several more parts and end up dumping them on Anakin. He puts them to the side and I sit back down as I wait for him to finish playing about.
At long last he clicks the last part back into place and flicks a switch. The panel lights up as lights dance across it and I sigh in relief. Finally, we're going somewhere. I change a few levers and switches myself until the ship finally leaves the ground with only one loud groan.
"Is this by any chance the ship you loaned to Obi Wan recently?" I ask, recalling how Obi Wan had come back from a mission with barely half a ship. Apparently Anakin had fixed it, but whether he had or not was a different matter entirely.
"Nah. That was the other one. What are you trying to say?" He throws a glance at me accusingly.
"Nothing. Just wondering,"
"Obviously," He snorts and shakes his head. The ship glides over the traffic of Coruscant, and I'm almost 100% sure that there's a cloud of smoke trailing behind us. But I don't say anything about it. We travel in silence for a while, focused on keeping the ship airborne, so it takes me a while to realise that somethings wrong. In fact, I probably wouldn't have noticed at all if Anakin hadn't of glanced up towards the roof, frowning.
I changed my focus over to the ship and with a jolt I realised there was a small, one-man fighter directly above us. I turned to share a look with Anakin. Somehow, it wasn't hard to guess what he was going to do next.
We plummeted towards the ground.
A/N:
Well, I finally updated.
Basically the lesson from this is that you should never do an Anakin Skywalker and improvise. Because there is no Ahsoka Tano to save your back. In other words, you should probably work out a story line before you start writing. Because like me, you will end up having no idea what should happen next.
It's true though. I literally started this book with "I want to write an alternative for Ahsoka. Nah, it's okay, I don't need to work out the details. If Anakin can improvise and succeed, so can I"
That's right, you have as good a guess as me when it comes to guessing what happens next.
