Chapter 26: Brighten A Room
Mark's POV
I'm throwing a party to celebrate (y/n)'s birthday. Since Jack, Bob, and Wade were still here I'd invite them. Matthias is coming too, it's going to be a surprise party and I'm sure that (y/n) will be shocked. I have everything set up, my friends are over and I sent (y/n) out shopping. I can't wait till she gets back!
Your POV
I walked up with the singular item Mark had told me to retrieve. Honestly, how could he of all people forget microwaveable pizza!? It just doesn't add up. When I opened the door it was dark, I started getting panicky.
"M-Mark?" I stammered into the darkness. Suddenly the lights flicked on and I threw the pizza like a Frisbee towards the first person I saw, and that's when I heard all of the people in the room yell in unison,
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Y/N)!!!!" Then the pizza flew and hit Matthias in the face, he fell backwards onto the floor.
"Oh my god! Matt!" I yelled as everyone ran to him "I'm so sorry! I was nervous and didn't know what was going on and-" Matthias stopped me.
"No, it's fine. It didn't hurt me, I'm good." And when he gave the final word everyone helped him up and retreated from the space. The party started and it was wonderful, I got a box of chocolate from Mark and a couple other presents. Mark said that I should give a speech, I don't know why but he insisted so while we were eating I stood up and clanked my glass with my spoon, which received a couple quiet laughs.
"I would like to give a speech!" I said in my dumb important person voice, but then switched back to my normal one.
"You are all such great people, I wish I could explain to you just how much all of you mean to me. When my family died I was forced to live with my aunt who, truthfully, didn't care about me at all. You all, were the only thing that kept me going because everyone I tried to reach out to rejected me, I was all alone for years. I always tried to cope alone but, I feel now that it's important for you to be able to share the bad things and the good. If you leave that weight just on you, you'll always be sad. Anyway, all I really wanted to say was thank you, thank you so much for all you've done." When I finished my speech I looked around and smiled my widest smile.
Mark's POV
And with her simple smile I could have sworn that my gray, boring walls became brighter, and everyones awestruck faces gained warm smiles. (Y/n) really does have a smile that could brighten a room.
