Prologue
It's been two years since I graduated from Liberty University, and so much has changed. I'm living in an apartment in Nashville. I have a boyfriend, who's been dating me for three years named Owen, we met at college. I'm also currently a foster mom, to a two year-old little girl. Her name is Claire, and she's the sweetest thing ever.
"Mommy?" Claire asks, from her seat at the table. "Mhm, what is it, babe?" I ask, taking some dishes to the sink. "Can I got to Mr. Alan's house today? He's fun," she says. I grin, "Of course you can. Let me wash up these dishes and I'll take you right over."
The girls are so big now. AJ's twelve, Presley's ten, and Baby Rowe is nine and not much of a baby anymore.
I finish washing the dishes, and text the guys to all meet at Alan's house. I take Claire by the hand, and we walk out to my car. I lift her in, and fasten her into her carseat. I get in the driver's seat, and make the short drive to Alan's house.
Claire runs up to the door, and knocks with her little hand. Alan answers the door, and Claire attaches herself to his leg. "Mr. Alan!" She squeals. "Hey Caire-Bear," he says, swooping her up into his arms.
She has the biggest smile on her face, "Can I play Barbies with Rowie?" Alan nods, "Of course my dear, she's in her room." Claire runs off to play.
"Hey Powell, how's life today?" I ask. He shrugs, "Same old, same old. How's yours kiddo?" I nod, "Pretty good." He slings his arm around my shoulder and leads me to the couch.
I sit next to him and sigh, "It's sooo good to be sitting down. I love Claire to death, but kids are hard work." Alan lets out a chuckle, "Now you see what I've been living with for twelve years." I grin, "I bet it's worth it too. I can't wait until I have kids of my own one day, but for now Claire's the best."
He smiles," You're doing a great job with her." I blush, "Thank you. I feel so bad for her, she had to be pulled out of her home. Of course, I'm only mom she remembers."
Alan goes to say something else, but is interrupted by his door opening. "Hey hey hey Chadster in the house!" Chad exclaims, entering house, closely followed by Caleb and Joey.
"Hey peeps!" I say, jumping up to hug them. "And where's my Claire-Bear at?" Caleb asks. I pretend to be shocked, "You only care about her and not me. But I've known you longer Cabey." He shakes his head, and pushes my lip in, "Alan, where's Claire?" He points towards the stairs, "Playing with Rowe."
He runs towards the stairs with all of us following closely behind him. We swing open the door to Rowe's room, and there's the two of them sitting on the floor, playing together.
"Mr. Chad! Mr. Caleb! Mr. Joey!" Claire exclaims, running over to them. "Hey kiddo, how ya doing?" Caleb asks, as he kisses the top of her head. "I'm playing with Rowie," she replies.
The five of us nod, and watch them play for a little bit. Rowe is glad that she's finally not the youngest. The two of them play with the dolls. I walk over to Alan, and lay my head on his chest, "They're best friends." He nods, and lays his head on top of mine, "I'm proud of you, baby girl."
I turn my head up and look at him, "Thanks for never leaving me, Al." He kisses my hair, "My pleasure darling. I love you." I smile, "You too dude."
