Chapter 9

Tomorrow I'm going to be a wife. I'm a nervous wreck and not quite sure how I can get through this night. "Hey baby girl," Alan says. I smile, "You always show up at the perfect time." He nods, "I knew you'd be nervous."

I pat the seat next to me and he sits, "Tell me about life." I nod, "Okay, I'm as nervous as heck. I don't know how I'm going to do this." He puts his arm around my shoulders and sighs, "Listen, my Mia, I'm going to be praying. I'm going to pray for you and Owen, to make sure everything works out for you. I've been here for you for how long, and I'm still here," my dear."

I lay my head on his chest and smile, "Thanks. Can you stay the night?" He places a kiss on my head, "Of course girlie. I told you I'm here." Stephen and Ariel are at Joey and Jewel's house for the night because Joe knew how nervous I'd be.

I feel tears slip out of my eyes, "Alan, I still don't see how Owen can love a broken, scarred, insecure girl like me. I have a lot of issues. When you marry somebody, don't you drag them into your problems? I can't do that to Owen. What if whenever we wake up the morning after the wedding he hates me?"

Alan cuts me off, "That's where I have to stop you, darling. If somebody really, truly cares about you, which I believe Owen does, they'll take you, problems and all. Calm down, my lovely, and try not to worry about tomorrow. Today has enough worries of it's own."

I look up at him, "I don't know how to be a wife, Al. I really don't know how I'm gonna get through this." He places a couple kisses on my head, before singing Through All Of It.

I instantly begin to feel at peace. "Let's watch a movie," I decide, leading him to the couch. I put on The Phantom Of The Opera- 25th Anniversary, and we watch it together.

"Okay, beautiful princess, you need some rest," Alan says, after the movie ends. I nod, "I know." He takes my hands in his and rubs them, "I know how nervous you are. I'm so proud of you though, my dear. I've watched you blossom into the gorgeous woman you are today, and I seriously can't believe it either. My first little girl is going to be getting married, and adopting two of the greatest kids I know. Baby girl, just trust God, and everything will fall into place."

I smile at him, "Thanks dude. I'm trusting this with Him." He pulls me in, and hugs me tight, "Night night pretty girl. See you tomorrow." I leave him on the couch and go to my room.

I pull out my favorite book, Tuck Everlasting, and read for a bit. I know Alan's still up, because he comes in to check on me twenty minutes later.

"I thought you'd be sound asleep by now, little girlie," he says, perching at the end of the bed. I shake my head, "Nah, I felt more like reading." He frames my face in his hands, and grins, "Listen, my Mia, you seriously need some sleep. Tomorrow's the biggest day of your life."

I nod, "I know. I just feel too jittery to sleep." He pulls me into his chest, and sings, his voice soft and low. When he notices me drifting off he presses his lips to my head, "Sleep well, my darling princess."

~*~

Wedding day- the day you anticipate and imagine having a Disney princess wedding from the time you're a little girl. Owen and I chose the fairytale theme, as cliche as it is, because we're both Disney obsessed.

I'm with my girls, they're helping me get ready. I found the perfect princess dress. It's styled similar to Rapunzel's dress, from Tangled. The bridesmaids have long lavender dresses, and the flower girls have matching lavender tutus.

I know the guys are wearing very vintage looking clothes-tweed vests, suspenders, and newsboy caps.

Fallon finishes my half up-half down braided hairstyle. I smile into the mirror, "It's beautiful, Fal, thank you so much!" She shrugs, "It was nothing, Mia."

Next Brycie and Kelsey apply a light amount of makeup. It ends up perfect too. It's dress time.. Brycie helps me slip into it, zip it up, and add my small tiara.

"Do you like it?" I ask her, even though she was with me when I bought it. "Mia, dear, you look absolutely gorgeous," she says, tears brimming in her eyes. I lean over and hug her, "Thanks mom, you're the best."

Next is my big reveal to Alan, Josh, Stephen, and Jaxon. I walk anxiously into the room where they wait with their backs turned. "Okay, you can turn around now," I announce. All four of them turn slowly.

"My little girl isn't so little anymore," Josh says, fidgeting with the note on his tie. I walk over to him, "Josh, I want to thank you for being the best step-daddy a girl could ask for." He smiles, and opens his arms, not saying anything. I understand, he's about to cry. I allow myself to get wrapped up in his arms. I lean up, and kiss his cheek.

Jaxon's jaw was practically on the floor, "You look stunning, sis, like a real life princess." I smile, "Thanks bubby, I love you." He nods, "I love you too, baby sis. Now, come on, and hug me." I hug him, we've had out fights, but he's always been there to protect me.

"Mom, you really look beautiful," Stephen says. I smile at him, "Thanks buddy, I'm proud of you. You're adjusting really well here, and you haven't gotten into any trouble." He nods, "Thanks mom." He hugs me, and I ruffle his hair, pulling away.

Alan has tears in his eyes. "Alan, thank you. You've done more for me than I could ever imagine. You've been an amazing father figure to me, and I can't thank you enough for all you've done," I tell him. He smirks, "But you can try." I shake my head, "Just hug me, ya big goofball." I wrap myself up in his arms, "Love you daddy." He kisses my hair, "Love you too princess."

After those four leave the room, Caleb, Chad, and Joey come in, their backs to me. "Turn around," I tell them.

"Oh my Mia," Chad says, stopping in his tracks. I walk closer to him, and watch the tears spill out of his eyes. "This is one of the few times I've seen you cry, Chaddy," I say. "I know, but darling, I'm just so happy for you. You look beautiful," he tells me. I smile, and hug him, "Thanks for being my big bro." He kisses my forehead, "It's my pleasure short stack."

Caleb grins at me from across the way, "Kiddo, you look like the princess I've always known you are." I hug him, "Thanks dude, you're the best." He puts his face in my hair, "Just remember that I'll always love you, girlie." I smile, "Love you too Caleb."

Joey grins, "M'lady, you've never looked so beautiful." I smile, "Thanks Joe." He hugs me, and I kiss his cheek, "Love you." He smiles, "Love you too, love. Can't wait to dance with you." I nod, "Same, homie, same."

After showing the girls, who squeal in delight, it's almost time for the wedding to start, and I'm more nervous than I've ever been in my life.

"How ya doin', babe?" Alan asks, coming up behind me. "You always how up at just the right time," I sigh. He shrugs, "It's a dad thing." I lean my head on his shoulder, "Were you nervous on your wedding day?"

He chuckles, "Was I nervous? Ask Chad, I was a nervous wreck. I could hardly hold it together. But you've got this, kid." I smile, "Thanks Big Al, it's almost our cue."

Josh walks in, and takes my other arm, "You ready for this, sweetheart?" I shake my head, "No, but I'll get through it." He grins, "Atta girl."

I listen as the Bridal March starts playing. "This is it, boys. I'm gonna be a wife," I breathe out, as we begin making our way down the aisle.

I gaze into the crowd and see some of my beautiful friends and family. At the end of the aisle, is my sweet Owen, with tears brimming in his eyes.

We reach the end of the aisle, and Josh and Alan kiss my hair. "Love you, sweetie," Josh whispers. "I'll be hear the entire time, lovely," Alan reminds me. I smile as they hand me off to Owen.

Owen takes my hands in his, tears spilling out of his eyes. "I love you," he mouths. I smile, he's all mine. The preacher begins performing, in my opinion, the most beautiful wedding service ever. Although, we did work a few unique things into it.

"Mawwage, mawwage is what brings us together today, and wuv, true wuv," he says with a smile. The crowd lets out a laugh at the reference to The Princess Bride.

Jordan and Joshua, our Ring Security, march down the aisle with our rings. They hand Owen my ring, and me his. As Owen and I state our vows to each other, I feel the tears brimming in my own eyes.

"I now happily pronounce you husband and wife. Owen, son, you may kiss your girl," the pastor says. Owen reaches over and dips me, placing his lips on mine. Cheers erupt around us, but I hardly notice them. I'm a wife.

We pull apart breathless. "I can kiss you whenever I please, Mrs. Peters," Owen say smirking. I smile, "Okay Mr. Peters, how about now." I lean in, and give him another short kiss, as Married Life from the movie Up begins playing. We exit the church, running down the aisle to the reception hall.

We have a few minutes alone in the hall before anybody arrives. Owen leans in so close, I can feel his hot breath on my face, "Mia Peters, you are my inspiration, and one true love. I'm so glad we're finally married, my dear." I smile, "Owen, honey, thank you for hiding your love away for me. I love you more than words can say." We share another kiss together.

People flood into the building, and I'm surrounded by those I love. I find Joel and Moriah, and tell them to perform their song I'll Wait For You while everybody finds their seats.

"Oh, and Mia, love, I'm so glad you found the guy who treats you like the priceless jewel you are," Joel hugs me, before taking the stage. I smile at him and Moriah as they sing their song.

"And now," Caleb says, escorting Kelsey on stage, "The bride and groom will share their first dance." The two of them sing Thinking Out Loud, while Owen and I dance across the floor.

After our dance, I dance with Josh to You're My Little Girl by Go Fish. "Mia, sweetheart," Josh whispers, tears welling in his eyes. "Yeah Joshy?" I reply, blinking back my own tears. "I just want you to know that I'm unbelievably proud of you. You've been through so much, and you're such a strong girl. I may not be your real dad, kiddo, but I still see you as my little girl," he tells me.

I kiss his cheek, "Josh, you're the best step-daddy a girl could ask for. When mom died, you didn't have to stay with me, but you did. You and mom, you let me live with Alan because you wanted to protect me. You're strong too. I just wish mom could be here," I say, feeling some tears start to fall. "I know, babe, but I feel like she's watching from Heaven. She's proud of you, Mia, I just know it," he says, kissing my head.

After my dance with Josh, I join Alan. We dance to Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. "I'm so lucky to have you in my life, my Mia," he says. "You saved me from bullies. You saved me from hurting myself more. And you're my biggest supporter. I can never repay you for any of that. I can't imagine my life without you, ya big goofball," I say smiling.

"I'm just so proud of how far you come. Some of me still sees you as that scared, innocent girl you were when we first met, but you've grown, princess. You're a strong, independent woman now," he says. I smile, "I know I'm getting older, but I still need you." He nods, "I know, baby girl, I know." We embrace as the song ends.

Ten Minutes Ago from the Broadway production of Cinderella plays, while people greet me.

"Love," Luke says, hugging me, "you look just as priceless as you are." I smile, "Thanks Lukey. I still can't believe we're friends." He grins, "Best believe it, kiddo." I smile, as he walks off.

Colton and Annie come up to me. "This reminds me of our wedding, with the fairytale theme," she says hugging me. I smile, "I'm glad you two are here, it's been too long." Colton leans over and hugs me too, I let out a laugh. "It's pretty ironic that all my favorite musicians are now some of my closest friends." Colton nods, "Amazing what Nashville can do!"

"Yo, MWest, over here," I say, walking up behind Matthew. He lets out a chuckle, turning to face me. "Lookin' good, kid. So glad I'm here on your special night." I hug him, "I'm so glad you're here too. Even if you're not singing." He shrugs, "I guess it's my night off."

With my last spare minutes I greet Lauren. "Lauren, I'm so glad you made it out!" I exclaim. She nods, wrapping her arms around me, "I'm glad too, Mia. You had a beautiful ceremony." I nod, "Yeah, everybody did great."

The song ends, and I search the crowd for Jaxon as our song begins playing. My four guys are on the stage playing their rendition of Just The Way You Are.

"Baby sis, I can't believe you're getting married before me," he chuckles. I shrug, "You'll find your princess, Jax. I just want to thank you for being the best big brother ever. I don't know what I'd do without you." He smiles, "You're the best lil sis. I've loved getting to watch you mature. When your mom and Meghan died I didn't know if you'd stay with me and Josh or not, but you did, and I'm so glad."

"Meg. I miss her, Jaxon, she was my little sister, she should be here," I say, feeling my tears falling. "I know kid, but I think maybe God needed her more than we did," He says, wrapping his arms tighter around me.

While the guys are on stage they also sing Give Me A Lifetime, and This I Promise You. When Love You Like The Movies begins playing, I rush onto the stage to perform it with them. My friends from school, Maggie, Paislee, and Beth are joining us too.

Beth and Alan sing the first line together, and the rest of us dance across the stage like maniacs. Each of us sing along. "Key change?" Paislee asks, a huge grin spread across her face. We even watch Maggie try to hit Chad's legendary high note. "Frankly my dear," I laugh. And we all finish the song together.

Be Like You by Finding Favour plays, and I dance with Stephen. "Mom, I'm so happy for you and dad," he says, trying to get used to calling Owen dad. "Stevie, buddy, if you're uncomfortable calling Owen or me anything, you don't have to," I tell him.

He nods, "I know. It's just almost like I have a real family again." I refrain from telling him here, but Owen and I have discussed it and in a couple weeks we're adopting the kids. Their parents are in rough spots, and with how long they've been in the system it's highly doubtful they'll ever go home.

As the song comes to an end, Caleb comes up to me. "I believe it's my turn, kiddo," he says, grinning. His dorky song choice, You've Got A Friend In Me, from Toy Story plays over the speakers.

"Caleb," I say, "thanks for being there through everything. I know I've been a jerk at times, and yelled at you, but I really do appreciate everything. You were there when my mom and sister died, you were there when I thought Alan was mad at me, and you were there all throughout college. I really can't thank you enough. I love you."

"Awh, kiddo, you're gonna make me cry," he says with a chuckle, "But I'm insanely proud of you, Mia. You've come so far, and it's hard to believe that sometimes. You're my grammar chick, and the ultimate Mario friend. We've had some crazy times, and it's only the beginning. I love you too, my girl, you've got a friend in me."

I smile as we dance through the rest of the song. God must really love me because he's given me better friends than I could ever ask for.

Joey joins me for our dance to You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan. "No matter what, love, we're still the dynamic duo," he says, smiling.

I straighten his bowtie, and grin. "We are quite the duo, Joe. My favorite thing we've done together is stagedoor Aladdin though, because that was when I decided what to do with my life. You sure my marriage won't split us up?" He nods, "Positive. I mean I've been married for how long, and we still hang out. I'd think you'd trust me by now, girl!"

I laugh, "I only trust you sometimes." He gives me a look, "Seriously?! I know that's not true. I mean we're homies." I smile, "Yeah, you and me forever, homie."

Chad's song, For Good from Wicked, has special meaning to the both of us. Wicked is one of my favorite shows, and when I first met Chad, I had given him the nickname Wicked. Now he's the Elphaba to my G(a)linda.

"Baby sis, I can't believe you're married," he says, "and I can't believe you convinced me to dress like a newsie." I playfully slap him, "Shut it Graham, you love it."

"Chaddy, all the lyrics in this song are true. You may be one of the weirdest losers I know, and you may need a life a lot of the time, but I really have been changed for good. I don't know where I'd be without you, big bro," I say.

"I really wish I could ruffle your hair right now, squirt. But I'm super duper proud you're my little sour patch kid. And maybe you've changed me for good too," he says, "But Mia, darling, in all seriousness it's been a great honor watching you grow into this beautiful, strong, Godly woman you are today. Love you, Glinda." I smile and lean my head into his chest. "Love you too, Elphie."

I follow Owen onto the stage, after a few people make their toasts. "First, I'll sing to you, then us together," he whispers in my ear. I nod, and take the seat as he serenades. He chose the song Did I Mention by Mitchell Hope from Descendants. I laugh as he sings this goofy song, but in my heart I know all the words are true.

Together, we sing Something To Believe In, from Newsies. Some of the words aren't our favorites, but I think all of our friends and family understand the message we're trying to push across.

After that, Lauren sings her cover of Love Alone Is Worth the Fight. I walk around, and greet more people. This wedding is more perfect than I could've planned.

The night ends with us just dancing around and enjoying our night together.
