For those who might not know him, his name is Fluke Gawin Caskey. He played the role of Mork in Dark Blue Kiss.
Third Person POV
As soon as work was over, Max drove to the hospital.
Tul was already in the hospital lobby waiting for Max.
"Why do you have to be in a wheelchair?" Max asked. "Are you too weak to walk to the parking lot?"
It was the orderly standing behind Tul's wheelchair who answered for Tul.
"It is hospital protocol, sir. I have to wheel him to a waiting vehicle and then assist him safely into the vehicle. And whoever receives him in the vehicle will have to sign this paper attesting that you received him in no apparent distress."
"Holy mother of pearl. I never knew that," Max remarked.
"I didn't either," Tul said.
"Wait for me outside the entrance then. I will bring my car over," said Max.
The orderly pushed Tul carefully through the automatic sliding doors and waited with him for Max to bring his car to the curb.
While waiting for Max to arrive, Tul turned to the orderly.
"Thank you for everything that you have done for me during my hospital stay, Fluke."
"It was my pleasure, sir," Fluke replied.
"I've told you over and over to just address me as Tul," Tul said reproachfully.
"Thank you, sir... I mean Tul," said Fluke. "Do you live far from here?"
"No, I live less than twenty minutes from here," Tul replied.
"Oh, I see. And do you work in another city?" Fluke asked.
"Would you believe I work in the same city where you said you live," Tul replied.
"Oh really?" Fluke tried not to sound too excited. "Which company do you work for?"
"The Kanchanaburi Department of Tourism," Tul replied. (A/N: Fictitious company name. If it does exist, it's coincidental)
Fluke's eyes widened in excitement.
"My apartment building is just a block away from there!" he exclaimed.
"Max is here," Tul announced as Max's car slowed down in front of him and Fluke.
"Do you need assistance getting up from the wheelchair?" Fluke asked, his arm already encircling Tul's waist.
"No, no, I'm fine, thank you, Fluke," Tul said, placing his hands on either side of the wheelchair armrest and slowly pushing himself upward.
"Where's the paper that I need to sign?" Max asked Fluke.
Fluke handed him the clipboard he was holding where an acknowledgment document was clipped to it.
Fluke pointed to Max the line at the bottom of the page where there was a big X beside it.
Max quickly affixed his signature to it and then handed the clipboard back to Fluke.
"Don't forget this hospital bag containing your belongings," Fluke said, handing the transparent plastic bag with the words "Patient's Belongings" printed on one side.
"Oh, yes, I almost forgot about that," said Tul, taking the bag that Fluke handed him. "Thank you, Fluke."
As Tul took the bag, he felt Fluke pressing a piece of paper into his hand that was receiving the bag.
Tul was about to ask, "What is this?" but he noticed Fluke's expression that seemed to be pleading for him not to say a word about it so he kept quiet and allowed Max to assist him to get safely into the passenger seat.
Fluke stood at the curbside of the hospital entrance watching Tul being driven away by Max.
Tul made one last glance at Fluke and raised his hand. Fluke waved back his good bye with a sad smile. He was already missing Tul's presence.
"I'm so glad that you recovered fast and that you're finally going home," Max said, briefly taking his eyes off the road to give Tul a loving smile.
"I can't wait to go back to work," Tul replied.
Max frowned.
"I expected you to say that you can't wait to get back home," Max said, pouting at Tul.
"That's understood," Tul said. "Of course I'm excited to be back home in your company."
"When is your mom planning to visit?" Max asked.
"Tomorrow at lunchtime," Tul replied.
"I'm glad you will have company for lunch. I'd hate for you to be eating alone," said Max, briefly reaching out to place his hand on Tul's thigh.
Soon Max and Tul were back at their unit.
"Go and lie down while I fix dinner for you," Max said, accompanying Tul to their bedroom.
Max removed the bed cover for Tul and fluffed the pillows for him as well.
"What are you fixing for me?" Tul asked.
"It's a surprise," Max said, planting a kiss on Tul's lips before walking towards the kitchen.
As Tul sat against the headboard waiting for Max to return with his dinner, Tul realized that he was still holding the piece of paper that Fluke had pressed into his hand earlier.
He unfolded it and noticed that Fluke had written his name on it and below his name was a set of numbers that looked like a contact number.
Tul's mind went back to the time that Fluke as his orderly had assisted him to the bathroom while carefully pushing the IV pole with him to make sure that his IV catheter did not get dislodged from his wrist, and how Fluke had provided him his bed bath services.
They always had a pleasant chat every time Fluke came to deliver his meals and provided him assistance with anything.
Maybe I should give him some kind of thank you gift when I get the chance, Tul was thinking. It was just the right thing to do. Tul was someone who never failed at showing appreciation for any favors or kindnesses shown to him.
Tul fished his phone out of his pocket and inputted Fluke's number into his list of contacts before crumpling the paper and tossing it into the trash bin close to the bed.
Then he tapped on the number and waited for Fluke to answer.
