Uhhh, Thanksgiving Yuri I guess! Yay?
Patty never liked Thanksgiving. In fact… she really hated it with every fiber of her being.
She didn't know why, maybe it was because of it all being focused on food she didn't like. She never gave a shit about a solid ninety percent of all the food that was traditionally Thanksgiving-themed. She hated the mashed potatoes and despised the cranberry sauce. Sure, green bean casserole was ok, and turkey and stuffing were always pretty good. She thought that the food was completely overrated.
The other reason why she despised this pathetic middle child of a holiday was one that kinda hurt her when she always thought about it. And that was the main point besides the history and food. It's usually about family, yes you could argue any holiday is basically about that.
But unfortunately for Patty. She didn't like or care about her family. Ok, maybe that was a little too harsh. But her relationship with her family was way too complicated. Her parents taught her a lot of things. Lots of different things and one of them was how to disown and not like your own damn flesh & blood anymore. Ever since college, she never met or did anything with them. After she told them that she got a job at Eden's Hospital as a forensic psychologist, they only scoffed like some spoiled kids and then got into an argument with her.
To make a long story short, they said they never wanted to talk to her again. Patty said she wouldn't talk to them either.
And she wasn't close to any of her extended family. Sure, there was her uncle and aunt, but… they unfortunately passed away in a car accident. It was one of the motivations for Patty to get the job that she had.
So Patty was a little surprised when she got a call a week before the holiday from Lila, a tall purple-haired woman Patty met years ago when both of them were at college. They hit it off instantly, hell, Patty was even at her wedding to some guy she didn't remember the name of.
They haven't spoken in a while, though, afterward, only really talked after the weird incident with Dexter Erotoph. Things changed, they changed a lot. Lila's husband passed away, plus she had a kid who Patty knew way too much (he broke into her morgue, TWICE.)
A lot of catching up was involved, but Patty didn't mind anyway. Ever since they met, she had nothing but love for that woman. She always had a crush on Lila, even though not everyone would be super happy about it. But she didn't care, she wanted to hug the shit out of that woman and keep her all safe and protected from literally anything and everything that wanted to hurt her.
And for some reason… Lila felt the same way, it was a little before the whole weird situation with Bob Velseb trying to kill anyone. At least a solid year before, Lila just confessed her love to Patty in the most awkward way possible.
“I know that I may lose your respect for me, Patty,” she said with a stressed sigh. “But it's true, I love you more than just friends. You're just so beautiful to me and I can't really keep denying it,”
All Patty did to respond was just wrapping her arms around her and pulling her into a very tight hug. Then just kissed her with every bit of passion an emotionless grump like herself could pull. They are still stuck in a strong relationship to this day. Despite not telling Lila's son Skid.
So, even though Patty fucking hated Thanksgiving and just quit her job as a pathologist and became a cop. She went to Lila's house anyway during the faithful day and knocked on the door. With a cop look and pistol with her. Feeling the cold wind messing with her short blonde hair she held a take & bake pizza and some chocolate pie.
Lila opened the door soon enough, her hair completely messy and eyes baggy. Patty nearly frowned as she stared at Lila. She knew that a bunch of terrible things were going on with her and her son while she was recovering from a demon possession. All the unfortunate sudden changes made Patty focus away on poor Lila, and Patty didn't like it all that much.
“Oh God,” Patty blurted out in concern. She glanced at Lila everywhere and then looked at those poor, tired eyes. “Are you ok? Please don't tell me that-”
“Yes,” Lila accidentally interrupted, rubbing the top of her head and sighing. She looked like she was going to damn cry. Nearly broke Patty's heart. “A priest came to my house and called me an awful mother. I then just remembered hugging Skid while sobbing. I… am not having a good week,”
“Me neither; I'm sorry that I wasn't able to talk to you sooner, babe,” Patty said, guilt running through her whole soul as she gripped the food a little tight. She needed to get this started as soon as she could. “Can I… please come in?”
Lila took a second to stare at Patty, a long, depressing pause. Then she just nodded and tried to run the sleep out of her poor eyes. Each short time makes Patty's heart ache even more. After a while, she just nodded.
“Yeah,” she said, taking a little bit to yawn and then just moved out of the way. “Of course Patty, come in, I already made the turkey,”
They both walked in after Lila closed the door. The two walked into the kitchen, where various Thanksgiving foods were all put neatly on a table. Patty spent no time putting the pepperoni bacon pizza she bought from Papa Murphy's into the oven and cooking it to its meaty and cheesy perfection. Afterward, both women just sat on the table, slowly beginning to get all settled.
The kitchen looked rather bleak, the whole place looked like it had been messed up somewhat. It was shocking that Lila managed to even clean this place up. Patty was rather impressed.
Patty was about to start eating her food (a slice of the pizza she had and some stuffing), but she just stopped and then looked around.
“Lila…” Patty asked, looking around. Something seemed off. “Where's your son?”
“Hey!” said a high-pitched voice, a little bit solemn, too.
Patty stopped and slowly looked at the ground to see Skid, Lila's son, who Patty knew a little too well before. Patty just awkwardly waved back at him. Seeing the small child just looking at Lila, his face was a little confused. Both of them just awkwardly stared at each other for a bit.
“Hi?” Patty asked.
Skid wouldn't say anything.
Well, this seemed a little awkward.
Lila quickly decided to end the sudden awkwardness and cleared her throat, looking at her son with a little smile and then saying in her soft mother voice, “Hey son, this is Patty, she's… a friend of mine that's going to spend the night,”
“Hi, Patty!” Skid waved with a light smile.
Patty gave Lila a “what?” Glance and then just waved back again. He then turned his head to his mom and asked, “Hey, Mom? Can I get some food,”
“Sure son, sure!” Lila said with a little bittersweet grin. “Just don't get too much ok? I don't want to get sick like last year, ok?”
“Ok, Mom!” Was all Skid said before dashing towards the kitchen and getting the food he wanted?
Lila just sighed and rolled her eyes afterward. Her face slowly became another frown, and she just stared at the food she had. This reminded her of the Thanksgiving she had with her dead husband. Those times were so good that she wished that it would have lasted forever.
Patty began to notice her girlfriend's sudden mood switch, she lightly tapped the table a bit. Her face slowly turned into a huge expression of concern.
“Hey, are you alright?” Patty said, slowly reaching over to hold her hand. “I know about all the other things that happened earlier this month but… Do you need me to help you in any way,”
Lila sat there and paused. What else was she going to say? She couldn't lie to Patty. Especially after the changes she's experienced. Besides… she just needed some comfort and someone to tell her it was all right.
“Can you just…” another awkward pause and a regretful sigh before an answer. “Stay with me for tonight? It's been weeks since we talked and I… I need you. I can't do this without you if that makes any sense,”
Patty widened her eyes and just awkwardly rubbed her hands. Feeling a weird urge forming deep inside her as those words Lila just said ran through her head. What was she going to do now?
She decided for herself automatically, completely on instinct and nothing else.
“Of course,” was all she muttered, reaching over to Lila's hand and grabbing it. “Anything for you, Lila. Anything for you,”
Lila's face grew a little red after hearing that alone…
The rest of the day was simple enough, they just ate with Lila's son acting all goofy for some reason. They talked about what shows they liked, watched a football game, and completely forgot any details about it soon after. Y'know, the usual things. But after a while, the day became pitch black and darker than a serial killer's soul. And all the food was put away to be eaten afterward as leftovers.
Lila tucked Skid in bed and kissed him goodnight while Patty just grabbed a change of clothes and left her gun somewhere safe in Lila's bedroom. Weirdly enough, Patty somehow found a spare outfit that she could use for sleeping too. It fitted perfectly, too; damn, Lila was an amazing girlfriend, judging by how… well chill she is.
She then just sat there for a while, staring at the ceiling. Wondering about what she's going to do in her future job as a cop. Would she really be a good cop? I mean… Her whole motivation was simply because she needed a gun legally. She already knew how to shoot them due to her father (one of the few times he had a positive impact on her life.) But she wasn't sure about the investigation parts of it.
Even then, the cops she worked with daily, Jack and John were super concerned about it.
“What if you get hurt?” Jack asked one time.
“Does it matter?” Patty would reply.
“Of course! You'd-” Jack would be soon stopped by John who would just sigh and smoke a cigarette. All he had to say was, “I disagree with the decision you want, Patty, but please be careful.”
She couldn't stop thinking about everything with her new job, especially how it was going to affect Lila and Skid. This could easily mess up the relationship she had with that beautiful woman, and she wasn't sure if she could withstand the risks.
But while she was thinking about that, she suddenly felt herself being pushed on her back in the bed. Not in a rough way, though; it was rather a very gentle way that made her heart skyrocket a little bit. Lila was back and didn't even say anything, she just sighed and placed herself on top of Patty, head nuzzling against her chest. A tired yawn left her mouth as she settled down.
Patty chuckled and wrapped her arms around the woman on her body. Pulling her tightly into a squeeze and kissing her forehead as she enjoyed the moment. How long was the last time they did this? Just share a night of comfort and relaxation without the difficulties of life harassing their every wake. Because Patty didn't know shit.
“Aww,” Patty cooed with a tired drawl, feeling a warmth that she always wanted to experience again and again. She ran her hair through Lila's hair as she looked back at the ceiling. “I honestly should try and move in with you y'know? I know I say this a million times. But I miss you and wish I could just spend more time with you,”
“I know, I know,” Lila muttered back, sounding just as tired as she buried her face into Patty a little more. Making Patty's newfound joy skyrocket even more. Hell, seeing Lila's smile before she did so made Patty smile alone. After a while, Lila just did one more yawn and muttered a slow, “I love you, Patty,”
She then just passed out not long after. Patty chuckled again. She couldn't look at Lila's sleepy form without just acting affectionately.
Patty went to bed now long after, her chin on Lila's head as she held the purple-haired lady. But not before saying one more thing.
“I love you too Lila,” was what she said.
To her dying days, she would still consider this the best Thanksgiving ever, as it's the only time she ever enjoyed.
