Know Your Place

"Izuku."

The freckled man looks up from his tablet, stylus pen pausing in its tapping against his chin. Masaru pushes his office door open to meet him at his desk, nearly knocking over a mannequin as he practically bulldozes his way in.

"We just got a call from our last merger and they're short on their shipment. This is the third time this week the warehouse has fucked up an outgoing order---"

"I'll take care of it, no worries. We hired someone knew in management about three weeks ago; the kids still gettin' the hang of it." Izuku assures him, turning back to his sketch. Masaru bristles and leans against his desk with an incredulous expression about him. "New management? Unbelievable. Who's idea was that?"

"Your wife, sir." Izuku replies blandly, eyes cutting at Masaru for only a split second before he returns to his work. Masaru pauses with a thoughtful hum. "She's been a bit moody lately, hinting at some things. Think it's about time we finally have us a kid."

A pause. Surely Izuku didn't hear him correctly.

"I'm sorry. What do you mean finally? You have a son, don't you?" He's getting annoyed---and he doesn't understand why Masaru would even bring this up to him to begin with when it isn't any of his fucking business. Is he expecting affirmation? A pat on the back? Or just a reaction in general?

Masaru has the absolute gall to look confused. Confused, the goddamn nerve of him!

"A son?"

Fucking what?

Izuku slams his pen down onto his desk and stands, quite abruptly if the way Masaru startles is of any indication. He's trying his best to make sure that his emotions don't show as clearly on his face---trying to hide the face that he wants to deck Masaru right in his fucking jaw.

After a few moments, he's able to force a smile.

"If you'll excuse me, sir. I'm going to go on to lunch, I'm feeling a bit lightheaded. I'll be sure to talk to warehouse personnel while I'm at it. Anything else I can do for you today?" He bites, fingers twitching at his side. Masaru flashes a smile and pushes himself up from Izuku's desk. "No, that would be all. Thanks for all your hard work, Izuku. You're a real hero around here. Enjoy your lunch." And with that, he briskly escorts himself out.

Izuku waits until he's out of ear shot before he drops his smile, scowling at him as a curse spills past his lips.

Katsuki was right. They're fucking selfish.

#

Katsuki...can't quite find the right words to say when he sees a very distinctive black car parked in front of campus. The door opens and a mop of mossy curls pops out as its driver exits the vehicle and looks around, breaking out into a grin when he spots Katsuki.

"Baby! There you are, c'mere."

Katsuki blushes up to the tips of his ears, face-palming as Izuku walks around the side of the car with extended arms. Katsuki goes to him with his head down, utterly embarrassed as people begin to stare---most importantly, his classmates.

"Oh. Is that your dad or something?" Jirou asks curiously, sending Shouto into a hideous cackling fit. "Ha! Yeah, it's his daddy, alright." He teases.

Izuku embraces Katsuki and presses a kiss to his head. The blonde allows him, but still keeps his head tucked away.

"Deku, what the hell are you doing here? I thought you were working until late tonight?"

Izuku pulls away with a smile, lifting Katsuki's head up by his chin to look him in the eyes.

"I'm sorry, baby. Did daddy embarrass you?" He tilts his head curiously, but keeps his smile plastered on. Katsuki is so cute when he's all shy like this. "I'm on my lunch break right now and couldn't wait to see you again. I also remembered that I didn't give you any spending money today---"

"I still have money in my account that you gave me."

"Well, that's for your savings, sweetie. Here, put this in your wallet so you have something to spend today." And Izuku is shoving more money into Katsuki's hand before the blonde can even object. "And I won't be working late tonight like I expected. Your parents are being an usual pain in my ass and I don't think I'll last the entire day with them so I'll be leaving the office at three. Do you and Shouto have plans or would you be alright with having dinner with me tonight?"

Katsuki's eyes light up at being told that Izuku will make time for him, smiling up at him as Izuku cards his fingers through his hair again.

"Course I wanna have dinner with you. What do you want me to cook for you?"

Izuku shakes his head. "No, baby, I'm gonna cook for you tonight. Text me whatever you want for dinner, we can even have dessert. You wanted to try tiramisu, didn't you?"

"Mhm." Katsuki affirms with a nod. "Good, good, I'll make some for you." Izuku promises, checking the time on his watch and cursing under his breath. "Alright, I've got to go. I'll come pick you up from work when I leave the office, okay, Kitten? Don't forget to eat something for lunch. Promise me."

Katsuki rolls his eyes. "Promise I'll eat lunch. Shouto wanted to take me to get some pho." He's never had that before, either. He'd never been ever to indulge in these types of meals when he was with his parents.

This seems to please Izuku. "Good boy, baby. Daddy will see you later, okay? Be good for me." He says, leaning down to press a kiss against Katsuki's waiting lips. Katsuki snickers at him. "I won't."

He yelps when Izuku claps him on the backside as he pulls away. "Cheeky little shit. I'll handle you later."

"I sure hope so. Bye daddy~"

Izuku blows him a kiss, waving as he slides into his car and pulls off a moment after. Katsuki watches him go until he's out of sight, smiling to himself as he turns on his heels to go back to his friends.

Shouto wiggles his brows at him and Katsuki snorts, playfully shoving at the taller boy's shoulder. "Shut up, bitch."

"I didn't say anything!"

"You were thinking it; I heard you, slut."

"Ouch. You know I'm only riding one dick these days, baby." He says and Sero rolls his eyes next to him. "Yeah, yeah. This ain't about Shouto. When the hell did you and Shindou break up? And who's the old guy?"

"His sugar daddy, obviously. Look at that fucking car he was driving---and he gave him some cash. Look at him, fucking grinning." Denki points, sitting in his boyfriend's lap. "Big daddy must be treatin' you real good~"

"Shut up. And you losers are way late. Yoshi and I broke it off...what, two months ago? I guess it's thanks to him I even ended up with Deku in the first place." Katsuki admits, though he's certain he's had this conversation with his friends before. Had it really slipped his mind to tell his friends that Yo Shindou was a piece of shit who didn't deserve him? Go figure.

"Deku? Your new boyfriend's name is Deku?" Jirou snorts, disbelieving. "No, his name is Izuku and it's thanks to me that you two ended up together. If I hadn't taken you to that club to have some fuckin' fun, you'd still be at our apartment crying over that steaming pile of dog shit. Don't give thar bitch credit for a damn thing." Shouto corrects, annoyed that Shindou was even getting so much attention in a conversation about how much better Katsuki's life is without him.

"Explains why he's been askin' us about you. He's annoying." Hitoshi, Denki's boyfriend, chimes. He seems fairly bored with the topic of conversation. Katsuki snorts at that. "It's just cause Izuku embarrassed him and almost broke his arm in public. Told him if he found out he'd even tried to contact me, he'd break his arms off and shove 'em up his ass."

"Aw, romantic! Babe, why don't you do that for me?" Denki croons, nuzzling against Hitoshi  who rolls his eyes. "Because you don't have any exes to threaten and nobody bothers you because they know you're friends with these two, who have a reputation for kicking ass and stabbing people."

"It was one time! I stabbed him one time!" Shouto defends himself with a dismissive wave of his hand and Katsuki just shrugs. It's not like Hitoshi is telling any lies.

"Izuku's leaving work early today and wants me to come over. It's cool if I stay the night there, right? Or do you need me?" He turns to ask Shouto. The bicolored boy hums and shrugs as he taps at his phone. "No that's okay. Go spend time with your guy. I'm sure Eijirou won't mind coming to spend time with me tonight."

"Eijirou?" Denki tilts curiously, eyes narrowed.

"His big, rich boyfriend." Sero points and Denki's jaw drops. "Shouto Todoroki has a boyfriend? After all this time, you finally let someone in? Dude, I'm so proud of you for movin' on! I gotta meet these guys."

"No, you don't." Katsuki and Shouto both say simultaneously. Having their lovers meet their much younger college friends?

Worst idea ever.

"Dinner's almost done, baby. Wash your hands for me?"

"I just did." Katsuki dries his wet hands with a paper towel, tossing it in the trash before hoisting himself up onto the counter with very little effort. He's dressed in one of Izuku's old t-shirts that swallow him, feeling quite comfortable and just a little lethargic as he watches Izuku cook.

"So, how was work?"

"Mm. Had to threaten everyone at our warehouse for missing shipments. Just got new management. Kid's still getting the hang of it but your father insisted I fire him. Even though he's the one who hired him. Cause, y'know, money." He rambles with a sigh and a cynical shake of his head. "Right pain in my fuckin' ass."

"Jeez, that sucks. Is that why you were so annoyed earlier?"

Izuku pauses. "Not...not really."

Katsuki scoots closer, curiosity and concern fueling his semi-aggressive prying.

"What had you so upset then, babe? You never come see me on your lunch break and you never fuck off with work unless you're sick. You not feelin' alright or somethin'?"

Izuku sighs. He's not sure if he should even say anything about what Masaru said to him today, but he feels like it would be such a betrayal not to. He doesn't want to hurt Katsuki like that again by hiding things. Earning his trust back again was by sheer blessing and he'd rather not have his loyalty lapsing just from a sense of duty to his job.

He puts his knife down.

"Babe. I've been wanting to talk about this but I figured it would be better to wait until you were comfortable but...I really need to know. What happened between you and your parents? I won't judge you, I won't say anything if you don't want me to. I just wanna know what they did to my baby." He reasons, already sensing Katsuki's hesitation before his words cease. Katsuki eyes him with an odd look, brows knit and eyes focused---almost as if he's searching him for something. After what seems like forever, he exhales through his nose with a sigh.

"...I guess...I guess I owe you that much at least, huh?" He resolves, scooting down from the counter. "Over dinner, we'll talk. But hurry up, Deku, I'm starving.

Izuku picks up his knife again but his wrist is jittery in anticipation.

Finally. The suspense has been killing him.
