Part Four

Shanaya knew she would never get the love and attention she truly wanted from Viraj. She would have to convince Jahan that since Viraj left Trehan mansion for now, they could establish their relationship and settle there. She was a politician's daughter after all. Mr. Suri had encouraged her relationship or rather arrangement with Viraj but would be open to her utilizing Jahan instead?

To her it didn't matter. She just needed to get away from her blind hatred of Kavya. Anytime she wanted that girl to disappear she became more involved in the family she wishes was hers.

Timing was everything. She would await the opportune moment. Perhaps after the burden of what Kavya had done to save the family wore off, Viraj would return to her after all.

Viraj wasn't planning to return to Shanaya. His trusted staff provided updates on Kavya as he requested. He wanted to test her a bit. He did love the chase and the fight she gave him prior to the shootout incident. Would be safe for him to push her buttons now or should he wait a few days?

He shook his head. No he promised her he would be right here when she opened her eyes.

So he remained stoic and sat down where she would notice him right away.

She slowly opened her eyes. It was sunny outside. A sudden flash of memories hit her of being shot.

She gasped as she saw Viraj sitting on the loveseat facing her bed.

He held the laptop and gave her a considerate look.

"Stocklom's syndrome. Interesting topic to research ,when I was hoping to finalize our wedding date," he  declared.

" I was just trying to find a topic for my phd," she stammered.

" Look at me Kavya. I promised you I would be here when you woke up. I hope you haven't lost trust in me that you would just find reasons  to leave me," Viraj hissed.

She was stunned, the past week she had seen only his nice side.

He was sounding quite possessive about her now.

"Listen Viraj, I am not even thinking about leaving you. You have taken great care of me and I just was going to probably ask you about my parents and any friends I may forgotten," she stammered.

She got up deciding to go to the restroom.

"Our conversation isn't over. Don't lock the door. You are still very weak. I rather not have to break down a door to get to you," he said.

His grip was firm on her wrist.

" I did not mean to stress you. I will be right back," she promised.

Ten mins had passed.

She was sure Viraj was expecting her to come out any second. The antibiotics and wound care provided by the medical team had done wonders. She removed the dressing and looked at the scabbing wound above her heart.

Tears streamed down her face. She recalled the bullet piercing her skin narrowly missing her heart.

At least she had saved him. But why did he not trust her? Was there something else she needed to know besides the fact  someone was trying to kill him that night.

She was so lost in her reverie she didn't realize when he approached behind her. He held her close and turned her to face him.

Him holding her close and before him sitting where she could see him as she opened her eyes felt like deja vu.

The nurses had changed her dressings last few days. He had not seen the wound in sometime. He gently traced the border with the pads of his fingers. Then he leaned her back slightly against the wall and kissed her there.

He dried her tears and then turned her to face the mirror. Pulling her shirt aside so she could see the wound in the mirror.

"This is a battle wound. My goal is to keep you safe and feel cared for the rest of our lives. Trust me Kavya, I am the only one who can protect you, the outside world is dangerous for you!"

Then she realized she was indeed his captive in every way.
