Deja Vu
Part 12- Déjà vu
It had started to rain and they started to get drenched.
Before Kavya could ask why or how he had ended up in the same part of London as her, he had picked her up in his arms and placed her inside the waiting sedan.
Finally as he buckled her in and the door closed behind them, did she try to speak again.
" Aap yahaan London mein kaise?"
" I have been keeping a watch on you," he replied curtly.
"Lekin kyun?"
" Tuhme sub kuch yaad nahin hain ( or she is pretending he thought to himself).
" What exactly happened that you need to keep a watch on me ?," she said making quote signs.
" Your life is in danger. I have a large empire and you dad handled accounts for me. Obiviously to get to me indirectly they would target you so your father will give up my business secrets," he said.
She looked at him puzzled.
"Why is It for five years I was able to live my life, now suddenly I can't walk down the street freely?"
"Something happened a few weeks ago, you may not remember but you do have that bullet wound scar on your chest. That is something you cannot ignore," he stated firmly.
Kavya was stunned.
This whole incident reminded her vaguely of something else similar and Viraj Trehan could have not kept her in his home for just one night for her to feel these strange vibes from him. The weeks she could not recall , something really did happen that veered her of course from her well planned life.
About fifteen minutes later, the car stopped in front of what looked like a 5 star hotel. Luxury version of the Marriott it seemed like to Kavya.
"Hum yahaan kyun aaye hain?"
" We need to ensure you are safe. Let's lay low for sometime, then we can figure out what is next," he declared.
He stepped out first when the door opened and then offered her his hand. She tried to ignore it and nearly stumbled.
She must still be in shock and then she realized there was a blood stain on her jeans from her left knee.
She could feel the sting and pain somewhat now as she was drenched from the earlier sudden rainfall.
It was still raining. An umbrella appeared above them as the men covered them as Viraj led her by holding onto her by the small of her back into the hotel.
Kavya tried to edge away from him in the elevator as they rode up the floors. Of course he had the best suite at his disposal.
She gave the suite a brief look for consideration. Trehan mansion of course was far more grander but then again it had been designed as per the family's taste.
He set her up by the couch.
"First aide kit layli," he asked the hotel concierge.
Kavya had no idea why she let him do it, but he started to roll up her pant leg to examine her wound.
Her breath caught in her chest as he examined her skin.
Something about the way he looked at her and took care of her made her feel strange.
He dressed her wound.
" I will find you some dry clothes to put on. Here dry yourself off. The restroom is up on the right side ," he directed.
She merely nodded.
Inside the bathroom, she took off her wet clothes and dried off. She was grateful for a bathrobe. She was about to close it up but then again appeared at the scar on her chest.
It was healed by now, which means it must have happened during the gap in her memory. Maybe that is why things didn't feel the same with Sid since she came to London. Had she betrayed him?
If that was the case, she needed to make amends as soon as she got back her apartment and let him decide if he wanted to stay in her life.
There was a knock at the door.
"Kavya I have left your things on the bed," Viraj said.
"Thanks Viraj," she said uncertainly .
Saying his name somehow felt more familiar then it should.
What had she shoved back in her subconsciousness?
Viraj knew he was playing a game in which he was bound to emerge a winner or loser. Loser if Kavya decided to move on and never speak to him again and the winner if she decided to give up her old plans and to be with him.
If she decided she wanted to be with him, he would let her have some freedom but only what was safe for her. He could never forget his world was never safe. Therefore he would cherish every moment he could with her.
He had left clothes similar to what he had given her in Alibag, after she had been rescued from Rana's last chal.
He had discreetly had none other than Vinod Grewal place a tracking device on his daughter's bag the night before. These clothes had a tracking but it was much more discreet this time.
Kavya Grewal had a habit of running from him. But he couldn't let her go too easily.
She was a strong woman, she could leave whenever she broke through his mind games.
He knew she either had a really complex mind where she could shut out things or she was being an exceptional actress right now. He had to play the game carefully. He would have to always to keep the upper hand in their equation.
Kavya stepped out into the bedroom to change into dry clothes. She slipped the clothes on but then paused to see the jewelry box on the bedside table.
She opened it like Viraj hoped she would.
He lurked in the doorway as she opened the box.
" Tumari amant," the note read.
It was an engagement ring.
It was the type of ring she always desired when she was to marry or become engaged.
Why would Viraj leave this here for her?
