Chapter 1: Alone

"Cami mon cheri," Lafayette said sweetly "eat your breakfast."

Camille let out a sigh as she began it spoon the cereal into her mouth. About 6 years ago they had decided to adopt Camille, who is now almost seven, and were looking to adopt another baby before- lets just say things have changed.

Her pale skin was far different from Herc and Lafs but, I didn't matter . She was sweet, smart, and incredibly adorable. Her curly chocolate brown hair complimented pale blue-gray eyes and freckled face. She was wonderful, at least when she behaved herself.

Lafayette admired his daughter while she ate. She gently swayed side to side as she hummed her own special tune, kicking her legs back and forth. He looked up when he herd Herc coming down the stairs.

Herc was now working for a major fashion company and was very busy with work, while Lafayette stayed home watching Cami. Lafayette wasn't pleased but he knew it was necessary money to afford their home and living costs. Lafayette dreamed of one day running a bakery, but wasn't able to until now.

Camille started school this fall, and was already through her first week. Meaning Lafayette had more free time than he knew what to do with.

Herc came down the stairs quickly, checking his watch as he threw on his coat. He made his way to the kitchen and kissed Lafayettes cheek and ruffled Cami's hair. Cami instantly looked up at him with a toothy grin.

"Good morning daddy." She said sweetly.

"Go morning sweetheart." He responded before turning to look at his husband. "Hey honey, I got to go to work but I'll be back in time for dinner ok?."

It wasn't ok but, Lafayette nodded and plastered on a fake smile. Herc wrapped his arms around Lafs waist and gave him a couple quick kisses before heading out the door and into the chilled September air.

For a moment Lafayette stood looking at the door, as is Herc might pop back in and declare that he would stay home to spend time with his spouse, but he didn't. Instead Lafayette focused on their daughter.

"Cami, the bus will be arriving shortly, go put on your coat."

"Okay Papa." She said with a grin.

She hopped down from her seat and grabbed her coat from the wrack. She slid he little arms through the sleeves of the baby blue winter jacket and she sat down on the floor to put on her shoes. Small strands of brown hair fell into her face as she attempted to tie her shoe.

Lafayette let out a sigh before kneeling down beside her, showing her how to tie the laces into a neat little bow. She smiled brightly before giving a big hug. Lafayette pulled her backpack of the wrack and she slid it on her shoulders.

Lafayette put on his coat and grabbed Cami's hand as they walked outside to greet the bus. Once he knew Cami was safely on board he waved her goodbye before turning to go back home.

It was then that the silence hit him. Both his house and heart felt empty as he walked around. The walls was covered in pictures of them smiling, and being happy. He even recognised one from back in college. It was from the night Aaron had popped the question to Theo.

Things have changed since then.

Alex and John are married now and Eliza helped them by having their baby, whom they named Philip. Philip is a year older than Cami and they attend school together. They live only a few minutes drive away from Herc and Lafayette but its been a while since the hung out together.

Burr and Theo have been married for many years and have a young eight year old daughter who shares her mothers name. They live on the opposite side of the city, but still call once a month to check in on things.

Thomas and James have yet to tie the knot but got engaged before moving to France last spring. Lafayette often calls him to ask about their life and ask questions regarding the wedding. However they do foster a four year old named Peter, whom they would like to adopt in the future.

As for the sisters, Angelica moved to London with her adoring husband and has been living their happily with their three children. Eliza is a music teacher at the nearby highschool and is planning to marry Maria next spring. Peggy is still a party animal, but now she throw parties professionally for her job.

Everyone has changed so much from where they were in college. They grew up, got jobs, and split up.

Lafayette leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor. He wished that things were different. He wished he wasn't so alone. He wished wished a thousand wishes, but it didn't change the fact that he, a grown man, was crying into his hands as he waited for a miracle.

He knew if he wanted something he would have to take it for himself, and right now he wanted company. So with shaky hands he dialed the number into his phone.

"Hey Laf, whats up." Johns cheerful voice wrung through the phone.

Lafayette cleared his throat. "Actually mon ami, I was wondering if you would like to join us for dinner?
