26- At dawn
The next day, Darius entered Tthor's room, accompanied by the first rays of sun, and found a scene that captivated him: Rémona was sitting in an armchair, near the bed, overcome by fatigue, wrapped in a heavy sleep. and nervous. Murk held Tthor's hand as his body collapsed next to the young man. His face was pale and he was breathing hard.
Tthor, at first glance, remained the same. Darius took a few steps closer and watched him in silence. He thought he saw some color in her bony cheeks and his lips no longer looked chapped and dry. His entire countenance seemed to have more light.
A bright, white beam illuminated it, straight from the window. Darius walked up to her, trying not to make a sound with each step on the creaky wooden floor. He adjusted the curtains and looked out, expecting to see Lee-Won, hanging from the windowsill, as he had seen him the night before, when he was walking through the side gardens, in the few minutes of rest that he had earned that day.
But he didn't see anyone. At first, he surprised him but then he believed that, as it had already dawned, the young man had returned to his bedroom, behind the stables. And when he was about to close the curtains, something on the ground, a couple of meters from the trunk of an old apple tree, caught his attention. He looked closely at the dark lump he saw. It took him a few seconds to recognize him. It was Lee-Won lying on the yellowish grass, apparently unconscious.
Darius covered his mouth to stifle a cry of surprise. He looked at Rémona first, then at Murk. But he decided not to waste time waking them up. He ran out of the bedroom, stumbling; He went down the stairs, down a long hallway and through the back door that led to the side garden. He ran the twenty meters that separated him from the young boy, at full speed, despite his short legs. He dropped down near the boy and began shaking him to make him react. After a few moments, Lee-Won seemed to regain consciousness.
"That? What happened?" He stammered, sitting up and holding his head.
"You fell!" Darius told him, making sure he wasn't hurt.
"Did you…fell me?" the boy repeated, quite stunned.
"You...you fell! "It's at least fifteen meters from up there," Darius reflected, looking at the second floor window.
Lee-Won tried to stand up, leaning his back against the trunk of the apple tree.
"I fell asleep…," he murmured. "He must have slipped…
"…You must slipped off…"
"If that. And what did I say?"
"Well, are you okay? You can walk?"
Lee-Won took a step forward and let out a piercing scream.
Darius managed to catch him when he saw him collapse.
"What? What's going on? What happened?
Lee-Won carefully placed his left foot on the ground. And, as soon as he did it, he felt a strong sting that ran from his heel to his knee. On impulse he dropped down, his face transfigured by pain and without understanding much of what was happening.
"Wait here... I'll go get help," Darius told him, aware that he couldn't carry him to the stables alone.
Lee-Won nodded and settled his back against the trunk of the tree behind him. Darius made his way to the abbey. He arrived at the stables with the intention of finding Equs Lileproof there. But the place was deserted. As he was leaving, he saw a wheelbarrow on the side. He stopped short and thought for a moment. But he immediately dismissed the idea. He couldn't lift such a weight. So, on impulse, he ran as fast as he could back to Tthor's bedroom.
Rémona and Murk stood in the hallway, in front of the open door, visibly upset. Darius figured they had probably been arguing, and when they saw him arrive, they fell silent. The little man approached them, clearing his throat, somewhat embarrassed at having interrupted them. He took a fleeting glance at Tthor's bed and seeing him still asleep, he said:
" I need someone to help me. Lee-Won has fallen from the window and I think he has a broken leg."
Rémona opened her eyes in surprise.
"Where is the?" Murk asked urgently, ready to help.
"Here! Follow me please!"
And at a quick pace, the three of them headed out towards the side gardens.
"Are you still here!?" Professor Evans snapped at Murk, when he almost took him by, in the narrow service door of the kitchen.
"Professor...it's Lee-Won...he fell...he...hurt his foot while...climbing an apple tree."
Darius hoped that Persseus Evans would not realize that he had not told him the whole truth.
"Come on!" Professor Evans ordered, looking at Murk out of the corner of his eye.
When the four of them arrived at the tree, they found a Lee-Won purple with cold and with his face crossed with pain.
Murk lifted him with both arms, without making the slightest effort, as if he were carrying a sack of feathers. Professor Evans checked his foot and then his calf and knee, grimacing at every scream the young man gave in pain.
"Nothing has been broken... he just has a sprained ankle. Take him to his bedroom!" Evans ordered, quite upset, for having wasted considerable time on something that, according to him, was not in the slightest importance.
With a Professor advancing at a firm pace, ahead, and visibly angry, Murk carrying Lee-Won next to Darius and a Rémona lost in her thoughts, closing ranks, they headed to the stables and, from there, to the rooms of the employees.
Murk placed Lee-Won on his bed, which was nothing more than a thick blanket on the floor, spread over some damp cardboard. And he headed towards the door, looking disapprovingly at the despicable room, with its only window with broken glass, holes in the thatched and mud roof, through which the sunlight filtered in, and even a scrawny mouse that looked at them terrified from a corner.
Professor Evans announced that he would go get some bandages and, looking with contempt at Murk, said:
"And you... it's time for you to go. If the Blumbers see you here, we'll all be in trouble because of you."
Rémona held him tightly when she noticed that he was threatening to approach the Professor. They exchanged a quick glance and Murk disappeared, pulled by Rémona's hand towards the drawbridge.
Professor Evans, without saying a word, stared at Darius who, visibly nervous, announced:
" I'm going to do my chores. Excuse me…Permission…"
And he disappeared down a side road.
Persseus Evans followed him with his gaze until the trees hid him. At a quick pace he went to the kitchen, now crowded with women who were organizing breakfast and, without answering the greetings of any of them, he headed towards his chambers, on the second floor.
He was so moody and so immersed in his thoughts that, when he closed the door, he did not see a shadow moving down the hallway in the direction of a spiral staircase. He slammed the door and, angry, began to prepare the materials in his medicine cabinet.
The shadow took a few more steps, went down the stairs and turned towards a side door. He walked about a hundred meters to the stables and, always at a monotonous pace and without blinking, reached the door of Lee-Won's room. As he entered, he bumped into the low lintel. He screamed in pain and grabbed his head, waking up abruptly from his deep sleep.
Lee-Won, startled, looked towards the door, widening his eyes in front of such an apparition: Tthor was standing there, with a small cut on his forehead, with a face of not understanding anything and looking at Lee-Won with an expression as surprised as the one outlined by the dark-skinned young man.
"Tthor!!!" He said without being able to believe it.
"Lee-Won!?" Replied the other, trying to remember how he had gotten there.
And right in the middle of that moment of confusion, a crestfallen Rémona arrived with a distracted air and stood next to Tthor. She looked at Lee-Won with teary eyes and asked:
"How do you feel?"
But before he could respond, Rémona realized that there was someone standing next to her, looking at her with big, bright eyes and a fresh smile.
"Good morning, Rémona!" Tthor greeted her, as if the fact that he was standing there, in a long nightgown, barefoot and disheveled, was the most normal thing in the world.
"For Saint Orffelios!!!" The young woman exclaimed, jumping.
Her eyes rolled back in her head and her body arched to the left, and before she hit the ground, Thor took her in his arms and held her tightly.
"She fainted!" Tthor said, looking at her pale face.
Lee-Won, unable to believe what he saw, tried to stand up, holding on to the wall but his leg gave out and he slipped. A rather fast Darius darted into the room, quickly passing by Tthor and Rémona, and caught the young man just in time, before he fell face-first onto the dirt floor.
When Darius made sure Lee-Won was okay, he looked up and looked at the couple at the door. He saw Remona, still unconscious, in Tthor's arms.
"Darius!" Tthor exclaimed, happy.
The little man blinked a couple of times, incredulous, unable to believe what he saw.
"Darius!" Lee-Won said as he felt that the arms that were holding him were beginning to loosen alarmingly.
When he saw that Darius was fainting, the young dark-haired man managed to lean his back against the wall and grabbed him with both arms to prevent him from hitting himself when he fell.
Tthor looked at Lee-Won with wide eyes. And he looked at Tthor with an expression on his face that made him burst out laughing, while he adjusted Rémona better in her arms so that she wouldn't slip.
Lee-Won bit his lip, not being able to believe all that and began to laugh too, letting out all the nervousness, fear and anguish that he had been accumulating in those last few days.
