Scientology is not a very well-known religion. It was created in 1964 by an American author named L. Ron Hubbard. The names literally translates grom, the greek roots to 'the science of knowledge'. In some countries it isn't even recognized as a true religion (for example, France and Chile identify it as a cult, and Germany calls it 'an abusive business masquerading as a religion'!). It was originally a sort of movement, but in 1953, Hubbard petitioned to change it into a religion. Later, it was not allowed to be viewed as followers as a religion, but as unwavering faith in Hubbard.

The 'beliefs and prophecy' are said to be based on precise research, and it's writings are viewed as scientific laws. Scientology, however, claims the world is older than what 'true scientists' have calculated, based on 'memories'. The teachings lie in the thoughts that each person has a unique mind that responds to life's hardships, blending and contorting the investigative mind and keeping believers from experiencing true reality. Scientologists analyze the mind to discover sources of this trauma, believing that re-experiencing it numbs it and reinforces the advantage of the rational mind, with the final product believed to be achieving a state that Scientology followers call "clear."

I've been raised as a Lutheran girl my whole life, and have basically been conditioned to believe that other religions are classified as 'weird'. Then, my science teacher made a valid point: All religions are classified as strange to people who do not follow those other religions. Look at Christianity, for example: Our prophet is a literal zombie who rose the dead and somehow flew to the clouds 43 days after his crucifixion; and also 'born of a virgin'. I am still entitled to my own opinion, however; I don't mean to offend; and my belief is that science shouldn't be worshipped as a religion, but as the discovery of the inner workings of the earth and the matter around us.
