Chapter 7: Memory Loss

Note: ACTUALLY READ THIS!!!! IT'S IMPORTANT!!!

So I said if I decided to actually make an alternate ending, I would put the details in here. So, the story is called Forgiveness, and this is the summary:

Barry was kidnapped and tortured for fifteen weeks. (Almost 3 and a half months) He was broken, played with, and now he can't trust himself or others. Soon, he realizes he needs help, but can he get it in time? Can he get it at all? And the biggest question: Should he trust his family? With all these questions, and a limited timeframe, Barry knows he might not survive. And even if he does, will he walk out the same man? Or will his soul be shattered?

I know, awesome summary. (I am not at all humble) The first chapter is out.

If you haven't guessed by now, because Zoom constantly tortured him, Barry has suffered retrograde amnesia. (is a loss of memory-access to events that occurred, or information that was learned, before an injury or the onset of a disease.) I, myself, have no idea what that means, but my version is that you can remember everything except people. It's basically what happened to Barry in 3.21.

The main point of that was, the alternate version is if Barry didn't have amnesia.

Also, Barry in this chapter is based off of Sebastian, or the snarky Snart.

This chapter will be shorter because of how long this author's note is. Sorry!

Enjoy!

...

Caitlin had an idea, but she wasn't sure, so she called in Len.

Barry had managed to open both his eyes and sit up by this point.

"Hello, Barry," Len drawled. (Drawled: speak in a slow, lazy way with prolonged vowel sounds)

"Hi..." Barry greeted. Caitlin definitely noticed the lack of Len's name, but she didn't intervene.

Or, at least until Len slapped Barry.

Barry looked up at him in shock. "Why-why-why," he sputtered. Len looked at him like he was crazy. "That's for running off with my daughter."

Barry looked at him, then at Caitlin, then back.

Caitlin gestured for Len to talk in private.

"Barry has retrograde amnesia," she whispered. (Is that supposed to be capitalized?)

Len looked at her in shock. "What?" he asked, and he was not as quiet as she was.

"What?" Barry responded as he walked over.

Caitlin swallowed. "Barry," she started carefully, "We think you have retrograde amnesia," she finished sadly. Barry looked at herblike she was crazy. "No, I don't! See! I can remember..." he trailed off. Barry looked at her again. "But-but I-I-I," he stuttered, and Len actually believed the distress on his face.

Barry looked back and forth between them, clearly shocked and confused. "Sorry not sorry," Len muttered, then walked away. Barry looked at Caitlin, and she felt bad for the confusion etched in his features.

...

What. The. Hell!?!?!?

That was the one and only thing Len was thinking. What had happened to Barry? To make him forget Len? Forget his family?

Len was going to make them pay.

...

As Barry went to bed that night, all he could think about was his family. Why did they look at him like that? Were they lying to him? Was he safe?

Was that actually his family?

He had no idea, and he was scared to find out.

...

Barry slept terribly that night.

...

"It's poetic, returning to your childhood home," Jay said.  "Jay," Barry breathed, and he could feel the pain seeping in. "Don't do this. I'm begging you. I'm begging you! Take me. Kill me."

"No!" he heard Henry shout, but Jay ignored him. "You still won't believe that you and I are the same," Jay said, but Barry could barely hear him. "Come on," he begged.

"Barry, look at me, son." Barry did. "So I'm gonna have to make you believe me."

"Whatever happens," Henry started, and Barry could see the fear in his face, "you have made me the happiest father..."

"Dad--" Barry started, but Jay cut him off. "This time, you're gonna watch your parent die just like I did."

"No!, no!" Barry shouted. "And this is what is gonna make you just like me!"

"Your mother and I love--" Henry started, but the vibrating hand sliced through his chest before he could finish.

"No!" Barry screamed, and he could now feel hands shaking him.

...

He opened his eyes to see the doctor? looking down at him. He blinked. He screamed. She put a hand over his mouth, causing him to bite her and scream even louder.

The guy who had slapped him raced out, and went on the other side of Barry's bed. Barry didn't care that the guy had slapped him. He trusted him more that the doctor.

He sat up, and leaned against the guy. The guy inhaled, but Barry could hear or feel the exhale.

He ignored it.

He stared the doctor lady down.

He could hear more people running into the room, but Barry ignored them too.

He really wanted to be alone right now. He had just remembered his father's death, after all.

"Barry," she said. "Whoever you are," Barry responded snarkily. The guy he was leaning on snorted. Barry turned to him. "What?" he asked angrily. The guy looked down at him. "That's just something I would have said if I was in your situation."

He stuck out his hand. "Len," he said, and Barry shook. "You already know my name," he said. Len chuckled.

Barry turned back to the doctor. "Caitlin," she said, and stuck out her hand, but Barry didn't shake. Len snorted again. Her cold, hard eyes looked at him. He shrugged.

"What were you dreaming about?" Caitlin asked. "Nothing," Barry muttered, suddenly shy. "No, Barry, it wasn't 'nothing'. You were screaming!"

"Fine. None of your business. Better?"

Len somehow refrained from full on laughing. Somehow.

Caitlin sighed angrily. "Barry, you need to tell me," she said. "What? Are you my mother?" Barry asked. Suddenly, you could hear a pin drop. "What?" he asked. "Are you?" Caitlin slowly shook her head.

"Barry... She's dead."
