Chapter 14: Pipeline

Len walked away, pain in his expression.

It was so confusing.

Barry was acting like he hadn't meant to kill them.

But he had, and Len had seen his face.

He would have murdered Len.

Without a second thought.

How was Barry such an amazing actor?

...

Caitlin sighed.

Her friend, Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, the sweetest man alive, was a murderer.

A monster.

Why had this happened?

How had this happened?

...

Cisco worried about all of his friends.

Barry was a murderer, Caitlin wasn't doing very well, Len looked like all he wanted to do was kiss Barry, and Cisco just wanted Barry back.

But none of that would change.

Barry had killed people.

There was no coming back.

...

Barry sighed sadly.

He knew he would never have a life here.

With his family.

He could never see Joe again.

Not Iris.

Not Wally.

Len would never believe him.

Caitlin and Cisco looked like they wanted to put him down.

They would never believe him, let alone forgive him.

It wasn't like he deserved it.

...

"I'm a monster. I don't deserve happiness. I'm a murderer. I deserve hell."

...

Len knew what his instincts were telling him.

Barry had not murdered those people.

Tag had.

The question was, were Barry and Tag the same person or not?

...

"Barry? Or should I say Tag?" Len greeted.

Barry was sleeping.

"Barry?"

Suddenly, Barry whimpered.

...

Barry whimpered as he grabbed Oliver.

He did.

Not Tag.

Barry.

"Ollie... I'm so sorry," Barry sobbed because he knew what was going to happen.

He was going to kill his mentor.

His friend.

And he couldn't stop himself.

"No, you're not, Barry."

Barry felt tears fill his eyes.

"Why?!?! Why do you make me do this!?" he yelled.

"Nobody makes you do anything," Oliver smirked.

"But... I wouldn't do this. I would never do this."

"Really, Barry? We're about to die and you're going to lie to us?" Felicity appeared, a frown on her face.

"I-I..."

Suddenly, Barry was shaking.

He sobbed uncontrollably as he ran toward Ollie, hand out...

And he opened his eyes.

He jumped back.

"Len?"

...

Len just stared.

He could hear everything Barry was saying.

"But... I wouldn't do this. I would never do this," Barry whimpered.

Len didn't think.

He just did.

He opened Barry's cell and started shaking him, begging him to wake up.

When Barry's eyes snapped open, he tried to escape Len's grasp, but Len would not let go.

"Len?" Barry asked.

Len nodded.

"You're ok," he whispered.

"But Ollie's not. And it's my fault. I killed him! I killed Ollie!"

Len had no doubt in his mind anymore.

"Come on, Barry. Let's go."

"Go where?" Barry asked, but Len was already pulling him away.

...

"Where are you taking me?" Barry asked meekly.

"I don't know," Len answered truthfully.

"Are you going to kill me? If so, I get it."

Len barely resisted facepalming.

"No, Barry. I am not going to kill you. I'm going to help you escape."

"What?! Why!?"

"Because you didn't murder Ollie. You didn't murder Felicity. Tag did. Not you. And I'm not going to put you away when it wasn't your fault."

"But it was!" Barry finally managed to pull his arm from Len's grip.

"I did do it! And now I have to pay! Don't you see?"

Len shook his head.

"Tag wouldn't have nightmares about it. Tag wouldn't feel remorse. You are not Tag, Barry."

Barry looked into Len's eyes.

"But what if I become him?" Barry whispered.

"You won't, Barry. You never will. You can't. You are sweet, and pure, and caring, and the greatest person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. You couldn't murder someone if you tried."

Barry looked at him and fling himself into Len's arms.

"That's why you're going to run away to a place where no one can ever find you."

Barry's reply was muffled by Len's shirt, but he heard it clearly.

"I can't leave you, Len. I love you. I never stop loving you. And I never will. No matter what happens, I will never leave you."

"Then I'll come with you," Len said.

"I can't do that to you! You have a sister, a friend, a life. I can't take all of that away from you."

"You're not taking it, Barry. I'm offering. Besides, it'll be fun to explore the world with my husband."

Barry smiled.

"Thanks, Lenny."

Len nodded and smiled back.

"No problem. I'll always help you, Barry."

...
