Chapter one: Learning how to protest

I wait outside Troy's building, waiting for him to come down. Greg, stands beside me tapping his foot impatiently. I forced him to come along this time. He owed me after promising to come last time but skipping out on me instead. He was the only friend besides my sister I really had. The only person who understands what I went through. We both loved the same boy once, and we both lost him. It probably was worse for Greg because he was there when the event that ended everything happened. He always blamed himself, feeling like he could have stopped it. It wasn't his fault though, it had been my job to protect him, not Greg's. It's funny, I originally hated Greg because he was in love with the boy I loved. Now though, I couldn't imagine life without him. He was a super nice guy, the very opposite of me. I wasn't a really person, never really have been. I just put up the facade to appease my father. Since I no longer have to do that, my social life has greatly decreased. It felt nice not having to keep up with my social life. It always had mentally exhausted me.

" So,you have no idea what he's even going to do?" Greg asks incredulously.

" No, all he said was something about church moms." I mutter.

" And you didn't think to ask him, before you agreed to help out?" He asks giving me a look that said, what a dumb ass.

" I was pretty nervous." I admit awkwardly.

" The great Caleb , nervous?" Greg asks mockingly.

" Oh shut up, you'll be nervous too once you meet him." I say, thinking about that alluring aura he gives off.

" What is he attractive?" Greg smirks.

" We both know, I have no trouble handling attractive boys." I say then instantly regret it when he grimaces.

" Is he always this late." He mutters eyeing his watch.

" I've been told he likes the dramatics." I smile thinking about his grand entrance.

" What the fuck does that even mean? "Greg asks with a weird expression on his face.

" You'll see, I'm pretty sure he'll be just as crazy as yesterday." I laugh, a rare noise to come from me.

Greg notices this and smiles big at me. The door behind us, slams open. Causing us both to jump, and out comes Troy. Smirking just like last time, it's like he was always confident.

" Welcome unknown, and unknown's friend!" Troy shouts bowing.

" Caleb and this is Greg." I gesture towards Greg, already feeling nervous around this boy.

" Well it's nice meeting you Greg, come on Caleb we have things to do." He latches his hand on my wrist, I feel strange at his touch.

" Wait-t but I brought him to help out." I stammer out nervously.

" I already have a foil proof plan, that only has room for two people." He smirks.

" Well, he could be there just in case something goes wrong." I say but grimace immediately when the words are out of my mouth.

" Something go wrong in one of my plans, please." He scoffs.

" Sorry, it was a stupid idea." I mutter. looking down embarrassed.

" No, I'm sorry, you're right we could use some extra muscle." He puts his hand under my chin, making me look at him.

" Extra muscle, what's that supposed to mean." I scowl.

" Calm down tiger, you have some muscle too." He rolls his eyes.

" Only some." I scoff.

" Come on tiger and tiger's friend, we have to take the subway."  He smirks, walking away and ignoring my previous statement. This boy drives me crazy, I don't see how anyone can stand him. While he does have an alluring aura, his cockiness ruins it. He reminds me of less demented Micheal. The thought of Micheal causes me to grimace as we enter the subway. Last I heard from sister, who my father actually still talked to. Micheal married my ex Jessica, and started their own tribe of little demons. He also became my father's replacement son or at least that's what my sister said. Micheal was what my father wished I had been. An anti-gay, racist, and married to a stupid girl like Jessica, asshole. The two people I loathed the most, fit together in perfect harmony. While I lost the most important person in my life due to them. Isn't life amazing?

We get on the subway and sit in silence. Which I find strange, I thought Troy would be a loud mouth. I look over at him and that mischievous glint is back in his eyes again. I feel a nervous pit grow in my stomach, wondering what he's about to do. He leans over kissing my cheek and throws his arm around my shoulder. I look around and spot a few disapproving stares but I also find a few proud glances. I feel my face heat up in embarrassment, not used to being stared at like this. I've been out for the last few years now but I've never had a boy to be this open with. Lucas and I never got the chance too. I grimace at his name and push him to back of my mind.

We get off the subway finally, with a few people muttering things under their breath.

" Sorry, what was that, I can't hear you over your close mindedness!" Troy shouts after them,

One of them turns around wearing a business suit, he looks like he's about to say something. Then he notices Greg, and his face turns white as he turns back around.

" See, having Mr.intimidating here interrupted my plans of starting a subway fight." Troy pouts.

" I'm intimidating too." I huff.

" Whatever you say tiger." He pinches my cheek, walking away.

" I am intimidating, right?" I ask Greg, who just pats me on the shoulder.

" Wait, you planned that?" I ask running after him.

" Yeah, I always love making homophobic assholes uncomfortable,it's a hobby of mine." He smirks.

" Aren't you worried ,about getting ganged up on by them?" Greg asks as we make our way out of the subway station.

" Nah, I always have a back up plan for those situations." He brushes off Greg's question with ease.

" You have a plan for everything?" Greg asks with a raised eyebrow.

" I love to be prepared and my plans always work." He says confidently.

" I doubt that." I mutter under my breath.

We walk the rest of the way in silence, as we push through rushing crowds of people. Until we near a mall, that I've never been too. I'm assuming this is where the church moms, wait for us. I feel my stomach erupt in nervousness, not knowing what he has planned.

" Alright muscle, you stand watch while me and tiger go up stairs." Troy says in a commanding tone.

" I have muscle too." I mutter making him laugh.

I followed him to an elevator, and we go up to the top floor. We walk until we're above the cafeteria.

" Look at those bitches, telling us we can't eat at this mall." Troy states angrily.

"Can they do that?" I ask shocked.

" Considering one of their husbands own this place, yeah." He frowns.

"Reminds me of my father." I accidentally let slip out.

" Daddy issues, tiger?" He asks with a raise eye brow.

" You could say that." I say blushing.

" At least you have a dad to have issues with, never knew mine." He says opening up the backpack on his shoulder.

" So, what are we doing?" I ask changing the subject.

" We, are about to make these bitches embrace the gayness." He says taking out a gun which makes my heart jump, until I see it's just a paintball gun.

" Won't that hurt?" I ask.

" Even though they deserve it, this is just to get their attention." He snorts.  He then takes out a huge bucket and opens it up. It's full of paint all different colors mixed together, making a rainbow color.

" I just need you to shoot the main bitch at the head of the table, then I'll dump this all over them." He smirks.

I take a deep breath, holding up the gun looking down below. He points out the main lady, a tiny brunette, who resembles Lucas's mom, almost making me clam up. I take a deep breath and wait until he gives me the good to go. He gives me a thumbs up and I release the trigger. Watching in slow motion as the pain hits her square in the face. She looks up squealing, with all her friends looking up with her. Troy immediately dumps the huge bucket, sending all of the colors down on top of them.

" TASTE THE RAINBOW BITCHES!" Troy shouts grabbing my sleeve, tugging me along.

I break out of my trance and run down the stairs after him. I turn around already seeing security guards on their way up. He takes me to a back door that leads me to a secret pair of stairs. We sprint as we hear the door open up behind us. We run down stairs to where Greg is, and as soon as he sees us. He runs with us, well more like ahead of us. I forgot that he was almost as fast as Lucas. We all run, until we're on the other side of the street.  We finally stop, all of us panting. Then I find myself laughing uncontrollably, making Greg look at me with shock.

" What's so funny?" Greg asks.

" He said Taste the rainbow after dumping a rainbow on them." I laugh so hard that I clutch my  stomach.

This causes Greg to start laughing and even Troy joins in. Pretty soon we're all laughing carelessly and it feels great. To actually laugh like this for the first time in years. Maybe, just maybe this protest group will be good for me,
