Graduation
It was time for Nafeesa's senior secondary school exams and she was excited because she was going into a higher phase of her life. She couldn't wait to experience the University life, but at the same time she was was scared and nervous about sitting for the exam.
Umma, I'm so nervous about this exam what if it difficult or OK can't remember all I studied. Nafeesa asked her mother on their way to the school.
Exams are always like that, but the moment you start it all going to fall right insha Allah.
Mrs Mas'ud dropped off her daughter at school after wishing her all the best in her exams before leaving for her daily businesses.
Lo and behold after the first paper, Nafeesa's confidence came back and she sat for all the subsequent exams without fear and with ease. Just as the exams started, they came to an end leaving all the student anxiously awaiting the results and admissions into the universities of their choice.
Nafeesa's joy knew no bounds, she couldn't believe she was finally done with her secondary education and hopefully going into the University to study Architecture and be just like her ya Said.
Her parents threw her a small party to celebrate this, and the cherry-topping for it all was when she received a parcel all the the way from the great Britain. She couldn't stop smiling and kept getting teased from both friends and family about how her demeanor changed on getting the gift from Sa'id.
Hmmmm!! Nafeesa just because you got a parcel from UK, you've totally forgotten our own efforts right? Who do you think it's from? Teased Abba.
Haba Abba, I'm just happy because I know it's from ya Sa'id.
Sa'id had proceeded to Sheffield Hallam University in the UK to pursue his masters which at present he was almost rounding up and he's family had also relocated their because of his father's business dealings.
An excited Nafeesa quickly unwrapped the parcel and brought out a beautiful antic locket with a picture of both of them in it and a message that read
"Sa'id will forever believe in you and be your spring board no matter what Nafs"
Her eyes became misting and grin split her lips as she read the inscription on the locket and whispered and I you ya Sa'id.
She rummaged through the pack and found a card addressed to her in his beautiful cursive congratulating her on her graduation and wishing her success. She found a note asking her to check her mail.
She quickly grabbed her laptop and logged into her email account. She found a long letter like mail written Form no other than her Ya Sa'id. She smiled at his weirdness and old-school ways and read.
Hy Nafs,
How are you and was the exam? I'm sure you made me proud. I'm sorry I haven't been in touch of late, I've been really busy with my thesis and interviews. I hope you've not been troubling Umma, Abba and anty Aniba?
Nafeesa smile and shook her head at this because ya Sa'id has refused to believe she's a big girl now and had out grown her childish antics.
As you know, the parents have relocated to UK and I just secured a job down here with the prestigious architectural Firm Foster and Partners. I am to resume work in a month and so I won't be coming to Nigeria in a while but I promise I will drop in from time to time, I will try mailing you and I might also consider joining one of the social media sites just for you😉.
I hope to hear from you when you UME and WASCCE results are out. I can already foresee my little architect and I look forward to working on several projects with you.
I really do miss you my little Nafs and I hope to hear from you soon. Take care of you for me.
P. S hope your friend that had the accident so me time back is fine now. Regards to all.
Love
Ya Sa'id.
Nafeesa couldn't stop grinning after reading the mail and she quickly ran to her mother's room baring her gifts.
Umma! See what ya Sa'id got me.
Hmm you and this Sa'id, Allah ya bar ku tare. Your closeness sometimes amazes me wallahi. I hope the woman he marries doesn't feel threatened by your closeness Umma teased
Immediately Umma uttered those words, Nafeesa's countenance changed. She herself didn't understand why the talk of Ya Sa'id marrying caused her her to skip so she just brushed it off and tried to put back her happy face, but the damage had already been done.
Umma always the great observer noticed this change in her daughter and smiled at her self 😉.
Umma can you please help me clasp the locket around my neck? She moved towards her mother.
Masha Allah, this is really beautiful.
I know Umma, I'm never taking it off.
Hmmm! Umma smiled while admiring the beautiful piece while clasping it around the young girl's neck.
Later that night, she called Rufaida about her amazing gift and got teased.
Iyye Mrs Sa'id, I can already foresee my self dancing at that wedding.
You are sick you know, how can you even say such? Ya Sa'id is my big brother fa.
If you insist young lady, Idan yayi tsami ai zamu ji.
As I said, you are high on cheap crack Nafeesa retorted.
Okay!!! No need to get your panties in a twist darling. You know how I can be but sha...
Wallahi Ruffy, better stop it o it's not funny.
The graduation ceremony organized by the school was grand. Nafeesa collected more than half of the prizes and was named the best graduating student of her year. Abba and Umma's joy knew no bounds, they were so proud of their only child for she had brought pride and joy to their lives.
Pictures were taken by the graduand, family, friends, teachers and juniors. Most of Nafeesa 's juniors were in tears when she was leaving because she was the nicest senior and was loved by all. She herself couldn't help but shed some because she was going to miss them, but she consoled herself that she was going for something greater. Little did she know that all this joy and dreams will soon come to an end.
