2. Reminiscing

The Abdullah Kai's family have been friends with the Mas'ud family for along time, the fathers attended the same secondary  school and that was how the seed of friendship got planted. The wives being both humble and gently women got along great and cemented the friendship between the two families, making them more of one.

Their children grew up in the company of each other and seeing how their parents regarded each other, acted more like siblings than family friends especially Sa'id the eldest of the Abdullah Kai who self appointed himself Nafeesa's big brother, mentor and most importantly protector.

Both parents and siblings always jest about them because both are more on the reserved side except when in each other's company, they become chatterboxes especially Nafeesa.

Sa'id a final year student of a prestigious University in Egypt.  An architect in the making and  a very intelligent and creative person which makes the choice of profession all the more suitable. A very tall, handsome Hausa Fulani from katsina state with aquiline nose, clefted chine, silky hair and a complexion like melted caramel and so not to different from the Egyptians and had often times been mistaken for a foreigner.

They kept chatting and reminiscing about the past holidays spent, outings and fun stuff they always did together before Sa'id went away to school.

Ya Sa'id I miss you so much, sometimes I want to talk to someone but then you are not around and then I cry my self to sleep.

Haba Nafs, I'm almost always a call away fa, even if you can't reach my phone, you can always email me ai, kin so kukan ne ai.

But why won't you just wattsapp like normal people do, everyone is on one social media network or the other except you fa. Always stuck in your books. Nafeesa said rolling her eyes.

Pot calling kettle black he replied with his signature lopsided grin.

They were still arguing about him not being on social media when Nafeesa's parent came back.

Abba! Umma! Welcome, how was work today?
Alhamdullilah it was good angel replied Alhaji Mas'ud
Daddy did you get my chocolates?
Of course I did.
Nafeesa if I didn't know better I would have said you saw Sa'id that's why you are this hyper, chirped in her mother.
Umma! You guessed right wallahi ya Sa'id is here.
Ai na sani, I thought as much she said with a grin.

Salam alaikum, they both said as they stepped into the living room.

Wa alaikum Salam Umma! Abba replied Sa'id squatting to greet them.

Ashe mun yi baban bako, I saw nafeesa really excited ashe it's you.

He smiled in reply.

How are you and studies? An kusa kamalawa ko?

Yes Abba, about to start my final semester, then masters insha Allah.

Madallah! Allah ya bada Sa'a, I love it when I see young people really dedicated to their studies. We are all proud of you.

Thank you Abba.

Abba! You still haven't given me my chocolate, whined Nafeesa.

Am sorry angel, ask your umma.

Abba's baby said Sa'id pulling her ears.
Ya Sa'id! Stop pulling my ears, she collected her chocolate from her mother and proceeded to the kitchen to share with anty Aniba.

Ke dai wannan yarinya da cin zakin tsiya, complained Umma.

Nafeesa a daddy's pet being the only child. She had everything at her disposal and was loved greatly by her parents and everyone because of her humbleness and good conduct.

Said, you must stay behind and have dinner  with us, said Umma.

Umma! I have been out for a while and Hajja would be worried.

Hajja knows you came here ai and besides let me even call her to let her know.  I haven't seen you in a while and now Hajja wants to deprive me of my son ko? She joked.
