Ch. 5: I.E.D.

Scott and I knelt next to a beer delivery guy's body at the lake house, decapitated, his name tag reading Demarco.

I looked at Scott. "One of the terms of the deal was if I showed you a few things. Let's start now. Does the scent tell you anything?"

"Definitely werewolf," Scott answered. "But there's more. I think he was part of a pack."

I nodded to the questioning look he gave me. "And they'll be looking r him."

The reason why Demarco was dead was because his name was on a dead pool list. So was Scott, Derek, Lydia and mine.

There needed to be two more key words to decode the rest of the list.

Derek, Scott and I were in the boys' locker room testing room.

"What the hell?" Liam asked. "Where's my stick?"

I walked into view with a lacrosse stick. "Is this yours?"

I broke it in half, tossing it toward his feet, letting it clatter on the floor.

Liam looked up with gold eyes, breathing heavily, coming toward me.

I took him by his throat and pushed him against the lockers as he growled.

"Liam," Scott said, both him and Derek stepping into view.

The glow faded.

"You're right," Derek told us. "He is angry."

I let him go, Liam landing on the floor.

"This one's yours," Scott told him, tossing him the lacrosse stick in his hands.

Liam caught it and looked at me.

I looked up to the ceiling as the bell rang.

"Get to class, Liam," Scott told him.

Liam looked from me to Derek before leaving.

Scott sighed.

I couldn't help a smile.

Scott looked at me. "What are you smiling about?"

"You're gonna be good at this," I told him.

"Are you kidding?" Scott asked. "I am totally unprepared. You saw that at the lake house." He looked from me to Derek. "Remember how you both said you could teach me a few things? I think right now, I could use a full-on training manual."

"I'll tell you one thing," Derek told him. "That anger he's got? It'll make him strong."

"And dangerous," Scott said.

Derek nodded. "Very."

Scott sat down on the bench. "This was supposed to be the semester I could focus on school again." I sat next to him. "But Kate's back. And I've got a Beta. And there's a dead pool."

"If all our names are on that list, then I think we should be focused on that," I told them. Derek nodded. "Do you think that Lydia can get that second key?"

"She's working on it," Scott answered.

No one had known I was at the school during the lacrosse game until I saw the girl with the thermo-cut wire try to kill Scott, wrapping it around his neck from behind. "He said we shouldn't try yet. But now I've got you. I got an Alpha."

In annoyance and anger, Scott's eyes glowed red as he pulled the wire away from his neck.

She pulled it tighter, make his grip loosen.

I grabbed the back of her head, pulling her away, making her let go of the wire trying to kill Scott.

"Don't kill her," Scott told me as he pulled the wire from around his neck.

"Relax," I told him, pushing the girl back into the wall, her head hitting against it.

She fell, unconscious.

"Tara. . . " Scott trailed off as he turned to face me. "How did you . . .?"

"Everyone on that list, including Derek, is here at the school," I told him. "He's at the vault. But with all of the things happening, did you really believe I'd be anywhere besides school?"

Scott smiled a small smile.

Stiles ran inside.

Scott looked at him. "I think you better call your dad."

The girl, Violet, and her boyfriend, Garrett, were today's assassins.

How many other people would there be out to kill us all?
