Chapter Four: This Is The Mafia

"Ok, Ring-"

John was cut off by Paul's and George's laughter. He frowned at them with a raised eyebrow.

"Can't... Stop..." George gasped, his cheeks reddening from the amount of laughter.

"What're you two laughing at?" John asked curiously.

"You... in a dress!" Paul giggled, gasping for breath. "Good lord, I didn't think I'd live to see you in a wedding dress!"

"Moving on!" John said loudly, though he was smiling too. "Ringo, truth or dare?"

"Dare," Ringo decided.

"Nope, you're taking a truth."

"Aw."

"Out of everyone in this room, who would you make out with?" John asked, a maniacal laugh escaping his lips. Ringo stared at him, his sparkling blue eyes wide.

"You can't be serious," he said weakly. "How can I even..."

"We won't tell anyone, Rings," Paul promised, patting his back.

"Except maybe Mo," John mused.

"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, LENNON!" Ringo shouted, horrified at the thought.

"Come on, Ringo, spill!" George urged.

"Eh... I don't know..." Ringo muttered, his face glowing with redness. "Maybe... Oh God, please tell me this isn't real... uh, George I guess."

"HA!" John and Paul yelled, falling on their backs through fits of laughter. George, on the other hand, stared at Ringo with wide eyes.

"You realize we aren't..."

"I know, I know! But, well, John said we couldn't back out, didn't he?"

"Why me, though?"

"Well, you're more mature. Well, actually I am, but you come close to second."

"The lad's got a point," said John once he and Paul were finished laughing. "Macca and I, we drive Brian crazy."

"No, I'm innocent," Paul pointed out. "I'm rather adorable. It's you who drives Brian insane."

"Ah, true," John said through a sigh.

"Well, my turn I suppose," Ringo muttered, still red in the face. "Paul, tru... No, John, truth or dare?" He had changed his mind, suddenly coming up with an amazing idea.

"I must be going crazy after the whole wedding dress incident," John said, taking a deep breath, "but, dare."

"Right, John, I dare you to prank call Brian and tell him that you're the mafia," Ringo said, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

"Yes sir!" John shouted with a salute. He grabbed the phone off of the coffee table and dialed Brian's number.

He winked at his three friends when Brian's firm voice said, "Brian Epstein here."

"This is the mafia," John said in a deep tone, biting his bottom lip to prevent himself from laughing. He watched Paul, George, and Ringo hide their faces.

"Wha... what's the meaning of this?" Brian demanded, though fear was evident in his voice.

"I'm gonna make you an offer, you can't refuse," John threatened. George couldn't take it much longer. He grabbed a pillow off of the couch and pressed his face against it, muffling his laughter.

"N-no, I-I... AAAAHHHH!" Brian screamed, making John flinch and move the phone away from his ear.

He hung up the phone, and all his friends roared with laughter. John, Paul, and George clapped Ringo on the back, congratulating him on his amazing dare. Ringo blushed, ducking his head so his friends wouldn't see. He was quite proud of himself.

"Ok," John panted, catching his breath. "Alright, Paulie. Truth or dare?"

"Dare me," Paul responded.

"Ah, a dare from Lennon," George said excitedly, leaning in closer.

"Alright, Paul," said John, rubbing his hands together. "I dare you to... drum roll please, mates." George and Ringo drummed their hands on the floor, and John paused for dramatic effect. "To call Jane and break up with her!"

"WHAT?" Paul shrieked, his face paling at once. "John, you... you can't be serious! Tell me you're joking!"

"Let me tell you something, Macca," said John, as though he was teaching a life lesson. "Most of the time... well, all the time actually... I'm never serious. We all knew that someday I would start to take things seriously.

"And today isn't that day?" Paul asked hopefully.

"Not a chance, mate," John winked with a cackle.

"You can say you were only kidding in the end," Ringo suggested, shrugging.

"Spoilsport," John muttered.

"O-ok," said Paul nervously, grabbing the phone with a shaking hand and dialing Jane Asher's number.

Once he heard a soft, female voice say, "Hello?" the butterflies in his stomach flapped their wings more rapidly.

"Hi Jane," said Paul, his voice higher than usual.

"Hi Paul!" said Jane brightly. Paul could almost hear the smile that may have formed on her cherry red lips. "I wasn't expecting a call from you. Is everything ok?"

"Yeah, fine," Paul assured her, sending John a cold glare. "But... I need to... to tell y-you something."

"Oh? What is it?"

"Erm... Jane, I... uh," Paul stammered, reminding himself that he could tell her it was only a joke.

"Out with it, Paul," said Jane impatiently. "I'm in a hurry, come on."

"Jane, we need to break up," Paul blurted out, bracing himself.

"W-what?" he heard Jane say weakly; he cursed himself immensely. "What d-do you mean?" She sounded close to tears.

"We... we aren't working," he said, hating himself more than he already did.

"B-but... but Paul," she said, her voicing cracking at the end. "I-I thought you... I thought you loved me!" She began to sob, breaking Paul's heart.

"Hey, Jane," said Paul softly. "I was only joking."

"You were only WHAT?" Jane suddenly yelled, causing Paul to jump in shock.

"I was kidding!" he said, laughing nervously. "I still love you, darling."

"Paul, you scared me half to death!" Jane scolded. But then her voice softened when she asked, "Did John trick you or something?"

"Yup."

"Ah, I see."

"Well, I should probably go now."

"Right... right, ok."

"Bye."

Paul hung up the phone, letting out a long breath. That, he thought, was a close call.

A big round of applause for ThisBirdHasFlown for the dares! Thanks mate! And the phone call to Jane was my own, hehe.
