First day of the holiday

Just like a dream...my school life was just like a dream. I couldn't stand the fact that it came to an end. Every golden past turned into a beautiful memory. Yesterday was a mixture of fun and sorrow. Last night, I was going through the pictures that we took yesterday at school on my laptop and slept late at night. All happy faces excited to face the new world named college or universities and hugs accompanied by tears. We promised to have a memorable trip one day during our holidays and we parted. It was like yesterday that mom and dad dropped me in primary school. Whatever, I have completed high school and I have already devised plans for my career and future. Owing to the late-night sleep, I woke up at 10 am this morning. Moreover, it is the start of my holidays and I lack any appreciable last-minute work to do. What a boring morning? I went to the bathroom and after quick refreshment, reached down to the kitchen. Mom was not there. Most probably she must have gone to the supermarket. I took the golden chance to make a strong coffee as I am addicted to it. With a coffee mug in the left hand, I opened the tiny room adjacent to the stairs. The room I use as a study room and is filled with all my school stuff. I sat on the chair, opened the drawer of the writing-table, and took my diary out to note down the memories of yesterday. I used coffee as a tonic to trigger my mind to recollect the incidents that occurred in my life yesterday from dawn to dusk. After writing it, I turned back the pages of the diary and started reading my own words. How many pleasant and worst memories I have gone through so far? I am indeed strong. The pages simply indicated "whatever may happen, life still moves on." Yes!! from a baby girl to a teenager. The climate was calm and cold outside, so I decided to spend the rest of the day watching the new K series "Boys over flowers" that I have got on my hard disk. I can watch the K series again and again without getting bored. I placed the diary back inside the draw went to the kitchen to wash the coffee mug. When I turned to the refrigerator to get my breakfast, I saw my mom's notice attached to the door.

"Breakfast is inside. Heat it in the oven for 45 seconds before eating"

I opened the door and found 4 sandwiches on a tray. The cheeses are fresh so I placed the tray inside the oven and set the timing to 45 seconds. I took away the notice from the refrigerator door and I noticed some words on the back of it. Mom again,

"Lisa call Jessica. She has been trying to talk to you for hours"

Shock waves hit my head. Jessy called me and I didn't pick up. She is going to smash me like a potato. Jessica is my dearest friend, my soul mate, bestie whatever...she is my first companion in primary school and still, she is proving out to be the best person to live with. She is the greatest companion of all times. She is genuine, caring and a lovely soul whose hugs got the magical powers to vanish my sorrows. The oven made a beeping noise and I opened it to take the tray out. I placed the tray on the dining table and rushed to my room to check my mobile. I couldn't locate it anywhere, not on my bed, neither under the bed, not on the table, not on the chair....omg!!! Where the hell it is? Then I took a deep breath and relaxed for seconds. Finally, I found it inside my school bag that I kept inside my closet unknowingly. I tried to unlock it, but it is switched off as I forgot to charge its battery for the past two days in exam pressure. I put it on the charge. I rushed down the steps and took the receiver of the landline and started dialing her numbers.

She picked it up in one and a half ring.

"Idiot, where have you been? I am trying to talk to you since the sunrise."

"Jessy, I am sorry....I slept till 10"

"Why did you switch off your mobile?"

"Its battery is dead and I didn't switch it off"

Silence.......

"Are you there?"

"Yes!! I called to inform you that I am going to stay in my aunt's home for a week will hang out with you once I am back"

"Okay"

"Okay? So you are fine without me!! Great!! Enjoy all alone"

"Not that crazy!! Stop yelling for useless things"

"Do you want me to stop? Fine, I got you."

"What and where did you got?"

"Don't try to be smart. Your question sucks"

"Thank you"

"What are you doing?"

"I won't say. Come and see if you are really interested to know..."

(Ringing sound of calling bell.............)

"Jessy, hold on someone is at the door. Maybe courier"

"Fine, go and check but come back soon...loads to talk to you"

"mmmm"

I placed the receiver on the table and went to the door.

"Who is it?"

"Mam, Courier," said a voice from the other side.

I opened the door and to my astonishment, Jessy stood there.

"Is this your aunt's house?"

"Yes!!! where is my aunt I mean your mom? It is her responsibility to take care of me for a week as my parents are on a business trip"

I simply stared at her with hands-on-hips.

"Is this how you treat your visitor? Won't you let me in and get some coffee for me?"

I smiled, "Come on in"

She entered in and I locked the door. I made soft punches on her cheeks and she faked as if she got hurt.

"Why coffee, Let me cook lunch for you"

"God please save me, I don't wish to die this early"

She laughed with the satisfaction of irritating me. I smiled because I am fortunate to have her in my life. I shared the sandwich with her and we drank juice together. We played cards for some time and started watching a series on Netflix. Potato chips turned into our great evening snack. Time ran as fast as it could and mom reached home at around 7 pm saying that she had a beautiful day out with her friends. She cooked vegetable pot pie and banana fritters for dinner. We enjoyed her delicious recipe. Jessy helped my mom with her work and I lay on the couch reading "Fashion week" magazine.
