origin: midoriya izuku
Bakugou arrived back to the classroom after lunch before anyone else, heading straight to his desk. He paused right in front of it, confusion on his face when he saw an envelope with his name on it. Glancing around to see if anyone was around and seeing no one, the blond opened the envelope and looked at the contents, seeing a flash drive and a note.
Putting the drive aside, Bakugou read the note, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
Bakugou -
Do you want to know what really happened to your childhood friend Deku? Watch the contents of this drive in the next twenty four hours and everything will make sense.
But be warned, if you don't watch them within the time period, the contents will be deleted and you'll never know the truth.
-A friend
The explosive teen eyed the drive, slipping it into his pocket as the door to the classroom opened and a few of his classmates entered the room, chatting with each other. None of them spared him a glance as he watched them for suspicious behavior, wondering if any of them were the one to put the envelope on his desk.
The rehab students, Kaminari, and Uraraka returned from lunch just before the bell, Izuku's face turned towards the ground as he clung to Shigaraki. The six of them made their way to the front row, Toga and Uraraka's hands entwined together as they walked, their cheeks slightly flushed.
When they reached the desks, Toga gave Uraraka a hug before the bubbly girl left to go sit at her own desk, her cheeks visibly more pink. Kaminari turned to Izuku, a question on his face. Izuku detached himself from Shigaraki and flung himself into Kaminari's arms, burying his face in the electric blond's neck as he hugged him tightly.
Kaminari whispered something into the green haired teen's hair, kissing the side of his head lightly. Izuku nodded, nuzzling his head into the blond's neck before pulling out of the hug and giving Kaminari a small, grateful smile, slipping his hand into his and squeezing it. Kaminari squeezed back, returning the smile before heading to his desk.
The four rehab students sat down just as Aizawa made his appearance, announcing the curriculum for the afternoon portion.
1-A was subdued the rest of the day, the events of the morning taking its toll on them as they all reflected on Izuku's panic attack and the fierce defensiveness the other three rehab students showed when they returned to the monitor room. The hero course students couldn't help but feel slightly guilty and sympathetic over the situation, having heard portions of what went down in laboratories for the green haired boy and having seen him rescue the child during the training, obviously affected by the location when he realized where he was.
With their thoughts consumed by the morning's training, the afternoon lessons went by quickly and the class soon found themselves heading back to the dorms.
Well, most of them.
Dabi, Izuku, Shigaraki, and Toga were heading in the opposite direction, further into the school. Kaminari and Uraraka gave them questioning looks, Toga answering for the four. "We have our first group therapy session today. We'll be back at the dorms later."
Uraraka nodded, smiling at the blonde. "Good luck."
"Thanks." Toga smiled back, giving her own nod to the brunette.
Kaminari glanced at Izuku, the smaller teen giving him a reassuring smile himself. "I'll see you back at the dorms. Save me some dinner."
"Will do." Kaminari smirked. "Say only good things about me."
"Then I'll have nothing to say."
"Ouch. You wound me." Kaminari chuckled, Izuku joining a little. "I'll save you the best portions."
"Us too?" Dabi and Shigaraki piped up, hope in their eyes.
"Sure." Kaminari shrugged, turning with Uraraka. "And dessert."
"Knew I liked you for a reason." Izuku called after them, earning another laugh from the electric teen.
Uraraka and Kaminari walked out of the school in a comfortable silence, walking across campus to the dorms. The brunette sighed halfway through the trek, earning a questioning hum from the boy. "I just wish the rest of the class would give them a chance."
Kaminari nodded. "Yeah. They may have been villains but they aren't bad people. You know?"
"Exactly!" Uraraka huffed. "If only the class could see that."
The duo reached the dorms, pausing outside the doors. "They'll warm up to them soon...hopefully."
Opening the door, the two friends saw the majority of the class gathered around Bakugou's laptop, the explosive blond huffing at them. They exchanged a look before walking further into the common room and over to the group. "What's going on?"
Ashido popped her head up from where it was propped up on the back of the couch and looking over Bakugou's shoulder. "Bakugou got a mysterious drive about Rabid's history and was told he has to watch it within twenty four hours or he'll never know what is on it."
"And we all want to know as well." Sero added.
"Isn't that an invasion of his privacy?" Kaminari gritted out, his fists clenched.
The class hushed, looking at the blond.
"Kaminari, think about it. What if it has important information on it that will help us help Rabid in his rehabilitation and recovery from his trauma?" Hagakure spoke softly, trying to convince the other teen that they should watch the video.
Kaminari paused, looking at Uraraka. She was staring intently at the floor. "Uraraka? Would you watch it if it was about Toga?"
She shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I feel like it may be overstepping boundaries...but if I could help by watching it...I would want to help."
Sighing, Kaminari leveled the rest of the class with a glare. "Fine. We'll watch it. But put it on the television so we don't have to crowd Bakugou."
Bakugou grumbled, sharing his screen with the TV while the class all found seats around the common room, getting comfortable. When Bakugou opened the drive, two video files popped up.
One marked Origin: Midoriya Izuku.
The other marked Origin: Rabid.
Ojiro asked which one they should watch first, to which Bakugou scowled and silently opened the one marked Origin: Midoriya Izuku.
A hush fell over the class as a shot of a young green haired woman in a hospital bed holding a bundle of blankets was shown, a blond man sitting next to them with a semi familiar smile - this one, however, softer than the one they knew - on his face as he looked at them.
"Is that - "
"That's Midoriya Inko and All Might." Bakugou answered quietly, staring at the woman who had been a big part of his childhood. He swallowed a lump in his throat, hand hovering over the button to start the video. "Everyone be quiet. No talking."
The video started, the filming seemingly from a security camera, and cooing was heard as Inko stared down at the bundle of blankets, All Might doing the same. "He has your hair, Inko."
Inko smiled, nodding. "Our little Izuku. He's so beautiful."
"That's because he looks so much like his mother." All Might placed a hand on Inko's cheek, wiping away a stray tear.
"Oh, Toshinori..." Inko sniffed.
All Might leaned in, kissing both Izuku's head and Inko's cheek. "I love you both, more than words can say. I promise to protect you both until my dying breath."
"I am here...to check up on the students of 1-A!"
Startling, the teenagers all whirled around as Bakugou paused the video, all of their eyes wide as they stared at All Might who had just entered the dorms and was slowly approaching them, eyes on the television.
Yaoyorozu started to stand up. "Sir - "
"Inko..." The man whispered, gaze never leaving the small family on the television. "Izuku..." He clenched his fists by his side, squeezing his eyes shut. "Where did you get this footage?"
Bakugou handed him the note he received that day after lunch, explaining how it came with the drive they were currently watching.
All Might shakily nodded after reading the note, walking further into the room. "Well...if viewing these tapes can help us help my boy..." He took a seat on the couch next to Bakugou. "...then I suppose the best course of action would be to gather all the facts. Young Bakugou, if you would please continue."
Nodding, the explosive blond started the videos again, a slight tension to the room.
The video shifted to a different scene, this time inside a modest apartment, the filming coming from a hand held personal video camera. A toddler Izuku was seen waddling around the floor towards Toshinori - who was in casual clothing like in the hospital clip - a huge smile on both their faces.
"Izu, come to daddy. You can do it. There you go!" Toshinori cheered when Izuku collapsed into his arms, a giggle escaping the child's mouth when his father picked him up in his arms and swung him around. "You're moving so quickly, my mighty boy!"
Inko laughed from behind the camera, the view shaking slightly. "Really? Mighty boy?"
"I couldn't help myself. I'm a father, we make dad jokes." Toshinori smiled, setting Izuku down on the ground.
Izuku whined, making grabby hands up towards his dad. "Up! Up! Daddy, up!" Toshinori complied, picking Izuku up and tickling him. Izuku squealed, clinging to his dad before he grinned. He used his little hands to try and tickle the tall man, Toshinori playing it up with his laughter, causing Izuku to grin triumphantly. "Daddy tickle!"
"He is such a daddy's boy." Inko chuckled, turning the camera off a moment later.
A new scene started, still in the apartment. Izuku was about three years old this time, sitting on Toshinori's lap. They had a book on their laps, Izuku's eyes wide as he looked down at the pages. "Daddy, daddy! Look! They has a page for you!" The child glanced up at his father, eyes even wider. "You super cool!"
Toshinori smiled, ruffling Izuku's hair. "Thank you, my boy."
Izuku giggled. "But mommy cooler."
Inko's laughter was heard from behind the camera when Toshinori put on a hurt face, dramatically crying at his son's words. "Don't be like that, Toshinori. It's not my fault I'm the new favorite parent."
"Nuh uh. I love mommy and daddy same." Izuku shook his head, arms crossing over his chest. "Mommy cooler 'cause she cooks. Daddy cooking tastes yucky."
The laughter from behind the camera doubled as Inko set the camera down on the coffee table, sitting down next to her husband and son. She picked up Izuku and blew a raspberry on his cheek, getting a giggle and a whine out of him as he squirmed in her arms. Toshinori stared at his family, leaning over to kiss Inko, doing the same with Izuku's wild curls.
Leaning over to the coffee table, the blond man picked up the camera, aiming it at Inko and Izuku as the child curled into his mother's lap, a yawn escaping his mouth. "I love you both, so much."
Inko smiled at the camera, copying Toshinori's earlier actions by kissing Izuku's curls. "We love you too, sweetie."
The man switched the camera off, the next scene starting almost instantly.
This time Izuku was holding the camera, aiming it at his face. He was about a year or two older than he was in the last video. "Mommy and daddy let me have the camera today 'cause I get my quirk today!" Izuku squealed, setting the camera down and backing up so his whole body was captured in the frame before doing a little victory dance.
The All Might in the common room smiled at the sight of his young son, a tear falling down his cheek. He remembered this day. He remembered it very well. And oh, how he wished he could change how it went with every fiber of his being.
On screen, Izuku picked the camera back up and ran out of the room he was in and into what was assumed to be the living room of the apartment. "Mommy! Daddy! Are you ready? Today is the day I get my quirk! We gotta go!"
Toshinori and Inko appeared in the view of the camera behind Izuku, Inko picking their son up as they made their way towards the door of the apartment. "We're ready, baby. Are you excited?"
"Yes! I hope I get a cool quirk! Maybe it will be like yours, mommy. Or daddy's!" Inko and Toshinori exchanged a look before fixing their facial expressions and smiling at their son. "Or maybe both! That happens!"
Inko chuckled, carrying the excitable child down the stairs and into their car, buckling him in as she and Toshinori got into the front seats. Izuku babbled the whole ride to his quirk appointment about what his quirk could possibly be, occasionally turning the camera on his parents for their commentary.
The small family reached the hospital and made their way to the office, being taken in almost right away as they were admittedly a little late for their appointment.
By this point, Izuku was shaking with excitement, bouncing up and down in his seat. His parents smiled lovingly from either side of him as they waited for the doctor to arrive.
They didn't wait long before the doctor arrived, his off camera voice telling them they had to put the camera away in the exam room. The last shot was of Izuku's excited yet nervous face before the scene switched to being back at the apartment.
Izuku's face was no longer excited, instead it was crestfallen as tears slid down his cheeks. It seemed as if his back was against a wall - more of a doorframe, really - Inko and Toshinori in the background talking in hushed voices.
"- sorry, Inko, but it is for the safety of both of you. You two are being targeted by some very bad people and if they find out Izuku is quirkless, they'll strike."
"We'll face them together. As a family. We'll protect our son as husband and wife." Inko pleaded, hands on either side of Toshinori's face. "Please, Toshinori, don't do this. Izuku needs you more now than ever. I need you too."
Toshinori placed his hands over Inko's, leaning in and kissing her forehead for a long moment. "I'm sorry, Inko. I can't stay. I love you. And I love Izuku. That's why I'm doing this. I hope you can understand."
More tears fell down Izuku's face as Toshinori removed Inko's hands from his face and picked up his bag, making a move towards the door. Inko sighed. "Can you at least say goodbye to Izuku? He is going to be wondering where you went. What am I supposed to tell him when he wakes up and you're not here?"
Toshinori paused, hand on the doorknob. "Tell him the truth, that I had an important mission to take care of. Tell him I love him and that I will be back as soon as I can and we will be a family again one day. He'll understand."
"And if he doesn't?"
The blond hero straightened his back. "Goodbye, Inko. I love you and Izuku so much. I will see you once I take care of this threat against you two."
With that, Toshinori left the apartment, closing the door behind him with a definitive click.
Izuku let out a sob and Inko turned to the doorway, her own tears escaping her eyes. "Baby? Are you there, Izuku?"
The child stood up, leaving the camera on the ground and facing the doorway of the apartment as he ran to his mother. "Mom, did dad really leave because I'm quirkless? Because I can't defend myself and us?"
Inko steeled her jaw, hugging Izuku tightly as she smoothed out her hair. "No, honey. Your father had an important mission he had to take care of. I'm not sure when he'll be back but he will be back and then we'll all be together again. We'll be a family once more."
Izuku sniffled, snuggling closer to his mother. "Promise?"
"I promise, baby. Your father will come back to us."
"That was the first promise my mother made to me that she broke. Funny, all the broken promises involved All Might."
Everyone in the common room jumped, startled by the mature voice of the child on screen. They all turned to see the Izuku they knew standing with Dabi, Shigaraki, and Toga in the doorway of the common room, glares on the latter three's faces and an indifferent expression on Izuku's.
Dabi took a step forward, his fists clenched by his side. "How dare you invade his privacy by watching videos of his childhood?"
"Where did you even get these anyways?" Shigaraki hissed, eyeing the flash drive connected to Bakugou's computer.
Before any of the hero course students or the pro could explain, Izuku put a hand on each of his male friends' shoulders. "Guys, it's okay. Remember our session today? In order to move forward we must first confront the past." He gave them a tight, wobbly smile. "So let me confront my past, yeah?"
"Rabid, are you sure?" Toga half whispered, her face softening out of a glare.
"Fuck no, but might as well try, right?" He glanced at All Might. "And who knows? Maybe it'll help mend some wounds if all the information is out there."
There was a bit of silence as the hero course students stared at the quartet. Dabi cleared his throat and the other three followed him to a spot on the floor in front of the television, their backs to the rest of the room.
Bakugou unpaused the video he had previously paused upon the arrival of the rehab students, finding they were at the end of the first file. He backtracked to the previous page of the drive and everyone heard an intake of breath from the rehab students as they saw the names of the files.
"Oh, this is going to be interesting..." Shigaraki mumbled, eyeing his brother.
Izuku gulped. "Do it, Kacchan. Let's show everyone how I became Rabid."
Bakugou nodded, opening the file and pressing play, everyone subconsciously holding their breath as the video loaded. They thought they knew what they would see and would be relatively prepared for it.
They were dead wrong.
