is this a joke

"So this is the famous UA high." Shigaraki stood with his fellow villains outside the school, staring up at the building. He scoffed, shaking his head. "Not impressed."

Izuku rolled his eyes. "No need to lie, Tomura."

"I'm not lying, you bastard."

Izuku smirked at his brother, Shigaraki opening his mouth to snap once more when Dabi slapped them both on the back of the head. They scowled at him but the flame user ignored their anger, instead dragging them to the school with Toga following along, a snicker coming out of her mouth.

The quartet found their way to 1-A - Shigaraki was in their class despite being older, the school wanting to keep them together as it would be easier to keep tabs on them - and took their seats, being among the first few there, as usual. The rest of the class slowly trickled in a few minutes later, Uraraka and Kaminari following their routine of approaching the reforming villains.

The two hero course students smiled at the quartet, getting two grins, a knowing smirk, and a scowl in return. They stopped in front of the four friends, Uraraka giving them a small wave. "Hi." Three of the four replied, one a lot more enthusiastically than the rest. "Toga, I missed you this morning. I thought we were going to walk together?"

Toga's cheeks reddened as her friends 'ooh'ed at her, Dabi whistling. She elbowed him in the ribs, promptly ending his whistling as he grunted in pain. Toga gave Uraraka an apologetic smile. "Sorry, Uraraka, Rabid wanted us to all be there for Tomura's first day of school."

"Hey, don't blame this on me!" Izuku whined. "It's not my fault you were nervous to hang out with Uraraka."

"Rabid!"

"Why are you nervous to hang out with me?" Uraraka's face became crestfallen as she looked at the blonde. "Did I do something to you? Did I do something wrong?"

Toga glared at Izuku, who tried to hide the amused grin on his face with a very poor excuse for a guilty look. Glaring harder for a second, Toga relaxed her face before turning to Uraraka. "No, you didn't do anything wrong."

"But you did do something to her heart." Dabi snickered when both Toga's and Uraraka's faces flushed impossibly red.

The blonde pushed her chair back and stood up, avoiding everyone's eyes. "Uraraka, can I talk to you? In the hall?"

Uraraka nodded, also avoiding everyone's eyes as she followed Toga into the hallway.

"Damn, guess I owe Monoma now." Shinso complained from his desk, already pulling his phone out to text the blond about the events of the morning. "I thought for sure Kaminari and Rabid would get together first."

"Excuse the fuck out of you. I like to take things slow, thank you very much." Izuku huffed, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Oh, sorry. My bad. Didn't realize kissing someone you'd known for a week and - I'm paraphrasing here - saying you'd go down only for them was taking it slow." Shinso drawled, texting away with a smirk as Izuku turned red.

"You said what?" Shigaraki turned to his brother in shock.

"Oh please, I've said worse. Why are you so surprised?" Izuku mumbled, avoiding eye contact.

"Maybe because you've never actually had feelings for the people you've flirted with before, not like this time?" Dabi hummed, patting Shigaraki on the back when he let out a strangled cough.

"Dabi!" Izuku hissed at his friend, his eyes promising pain before he relaxed his face and turned to Kaminari. "I'm sorry you had to be involved in their idiocy, please don't take them seriously."

Kaminari nodded. "Okay. But you know, I wouldn't blame you if you had feelings for me. I am pretty amazing." He smirked, eyeing Izuku. "And it would've made asking you on a date easier, cause you know, I have feelings for you."

"I - you - I - what?!" Dabi and Shigaraki broke down into fits of laughter at Izuku's expression and inability to comprehend Kaminari's words, further reddending his cheeks. "Stop laughing! I've never had anyone confess any sort of feeling to me. What do I do?"

"You can go on a date with me." Kaminari smiled at Izuku, shrugging a little. "You know, if you want to."

Izuku stared back for a moment before nodding.

"As touching as this moment is, we have a class to start." Aizawa startled the first years by appearing at the front of the classroom in his iconic yellow sleeping bag, Toga and Uraraka walking in the door with red faces. The teacher eyed them for a second before sighing, telling them and Kaminari to take their seats. Once everyone was seated, he began explaining the lesson of the day. "First things first, I'd like to welcome back our rehab students and welcome Shigaraki Tomura to the school."

"This place is better than what I expect prison to be." Shigaraki shrugged.

"It is. Being behind bars is not fun."

"How would you know? You've never gone to prison." Bakugou sneered at his childhood frenemy.

"Kacchan, you seem to keep forgetting I was held captive for three years. Do you think they kept me in a luxury hotel?"

Bakugou said nothing.

"Anyways." Aizawa eyed the two childhood frenemies as they stared at one another. "Today we are going to do hands-on mixed training. Before you ask what this entails, this means you will be focused on fighting fake villains and rescuing civilians at the same time. You will be placed in four teams of six." The teacher nodded at the cases of costumes as they emerged from the wall. "Get changed and meet us at Ground Beta."

"Us?" A few students murmured as they grabbed their costumes and left the classroom to head to the locker room.

Dabi, Izuku, Shigaraki, and Toga followed their classmates to the locker room, getting changed into their gym clothes. They ignored the looks they received from the other students when they saw the various scars on their bodies, getting dressed as quickly as possible and leaving the room to go to the training ground.

The rest of the class soon joined them, some of the students eyeing the four reforming villains with pity. Toga avoided their eyes whereas the three boys scowled and glared at the hero course students until they looked away.

Aizawa walked in front of his class with Present Mic, Midnight, and, to Izuku's dismay, All Might. The homeroom teacher began to explain how the exercise would work, keeping a close eye on Izuku's expression and body language while doing so. "Like I said in the classroom, this exercise is a mixed training between combat and rescue. Us four faculty will be playing the role of the villains you have to fight while principal Nedzu oversees the exercise from the monitor room."

Nedzu poked his head out from Aizawa's scarf, waving at the group. "Hello!"

"Wait, we have to fight all four of you? Isn't that a bit much so early in the year?" Kirishima got several nods of agreement from his classmates.

"That's why there are six of you, so you have better odds." Midnight hummed. "The people you are rescuing are hired actors. Do your best to treat this as a real scenario."

"Right. The groups are as follows; group A is Bakugou, Shinso, Ojiro, Yaoyorozu, Koda, and Asui. Group B is Hagakure, Sero, Kirishima, Todoroki, Aoyama, and Iida. C is Kaminari, Rabid, Dabi, Uraraka, Toga, and Shigaraki. Group D is Jiro, Shoji, Ashido, Mineta, Sato, and Tokoyami." Aizawa listed the groups, watching as his class went to stand with their group mates. "Any questions?"

"Yeah, why are all the villains on one team? What if they turn on Kaminari and Uraraka and hurt them?"

Izuku scoffed, glaring at Mineta. "We're rehab students, you walking bowl of grapes. That means we are working on bettering ourselves."

"Besides, we like Kaminari and Uraraka. Why would we intentionally hurt them?" Dabi smirked at the blushes on Izuku, Toga, and the two mentioned hero course students' faces.

"We're probably all on one team because you would turn on us." Shigaraki mumbled, barely loud enough for his friends to hear.

"Tomura!"

"What?"

"You're right but you shouldn't say it." Toga sighed, glancing sadly at the hero students.

Aizawa cleared his throat and his class fell silent. The teacher nodded. "Right then. Group A will be going first. They will have ten minutes to strategize. The other three groups follow Nedzu to the monitor room."

The students did as they were told, listening to their teacher's instructions and following the principal to the monitor room to watch the first match of student versus fake villain teachers. They separated into their respective groups as the match began, each half paying attention while also strategizing.

The first match was a close one. The team of students managed to rescue all of the civilians but were defeated by the villain teachers in the final moments.

The second match was a bit different. The students almost defeated the villain teachers thanks to a sneak attack by Todoroki but they ran out of time to rescue the civilians when they had to fight the teachers once more when they escaped the ice prison because of All Might.

"Group C make your way to Ground Beta." Nedzu addressed the third team as the second team entered the monitor room.

"Good luck!" Ashido called out to them as they left, Toga and Uraraka smiling at the pink girl before exiting the room.

The walk to Ground Beta was relatively quiet, the only sound being their footsteps. They were met outside the grounds by Aizawa as he had to deactivate the bracelets on the rehab students so they could properly participate. He nodded at them before entering the grounds, telling them they had ten minutes to plan before their training began.

Once Aizawa walked inside, Izuku turned to his team with determination. "Okay, I think our best shot would be to have Uraraka, Tomura, and Himiko on rescue. Their quirks are better suited for it whereas the rest of ours are more suited for combat."

"Good idea." Kaminari grinned, shrugging sheepishly afterwards. "Although I don't have the best control of my quirk yet."

"That's what practice is for." Izuku smiled back. "Now, Himiko, I am going to give you some of my blood so if you get into a pinch and things get intense, you can get yourself, Uraraka, and Tomura out of there. But only transform if you really need it."

"Of course. Don't want to let them know who's blood I have." Toga nodded.

"Exactly. You get it. Just like we don't want them to know who's quirks I have." Izuku smirked devilishly when Uraraka asked who's quirk he would have. "Why all of yours of course."

"You can do that?" Kaminari's eyes were wide with wonder and amazement.

"We're going to find out."

"Don't overdo it." Dabi and Shigaraki warned at the same time.

Izuku waved them off, placing a hand on each of them for about thirty seconds before moving onto Toga and doing the same. He looked at Kaminari and Uraraka with a question in his eyes and they nodded, holding their hands out. Izuku gave them a grateful smile and took their hands.

Uraraka giggled. "It kind of tickles."

The doors to Ground Beta opened.

"Group C please make your way into the training ground to begin your training."

As they walked towards the gates Izuku rolled his sleeve up to his shoulder to hide the bite mark from Toga. She bit down on his bicep, taking some of his blood and rolled his sleeve back down right before they entered the grounds.

"Everyone knows the plan?" The team nodded. "Good, let's do this."

The three on rescue duty went running in search of civilians while the three on villain duty followed the path of destruction, listening as Kaminari gave a run down of his teacher's quirks. "Aizawa can erase peoples' quirks as long as he is looking at them with his own quirk active. Midnight can put people to sleep with an aroma she emits, more effective on males than females. Present Mic has a very destructive voice, he can topple buildings with a scream. And you know All Might's."

"Unfortunately." Izuku grumbled.

"Speaking of all of the above." Dabi stopped running, gesturing to a couple blocks in front of them where the four pretend villains were standing, ready to confront them.

"Dabi, block us from view. Kami, get ready not to breathe and use your quirk when I say to." Izuku directed, grabbing Kaminari and pulling him behind Dabi and out of sight of Eraserhead, teleporting the two of them behind the teachers. "Now!"

Kaminari let out his electricity as Izuku teleported out of range, putting Midnight out of commission as she was the closest. He also managed to stun Eraserhead, allowing Izuku to appear next to him and absorb his quirk.

"Yeah!"

"Fuck!" Dabi went flying backwards as Present Mic hit him with one of his yells, slamming into a car. He stood up, glaring at the blond hero. Going to ignite his hands, Dabi found his quirk to not be active. A small smirk formed on his lips as he glanced at Eraserhead. "So that's how we're playing it, huh? Good thing I know other ways to fight."

Present Mic went to use his quirk once more but was zapped by Kaminari, putting him out of the fight as he passed out on the ground next to Midnight.

Izuku instructed Kaminari to restrain the villains using the capture rope they were given before the exercise, looking around for the fourth teacher as Kaminari got to work on that and Dabi fought hand to hand with Eraserhead. "Wait, where is d- All Might?"

Dabi cursed, ducking under a punch from the underground hero. "He probably went after the others. Go! Kaminari and I have got this."

The green eyed teen hesitated but Kaminari gave him a small smile. "It's fine, I still have some control left. Like Dabi said, we've got this."

Nodding, Izuku took off running in the direction he saw Toga and the other two head off in, occasionally teleporting to go faster.

Arriving to find his friends and Uraraka trying to protect the civilians while also fighting All Might, Izuku cursed before teleporting in front of a punch meant for Shigaraki, throwing up a wall of fire to try and distract All Might. He turned to his team, shouting over his shoulder. "Handle the civilians. I've got this!"

"Rabid, look out!"

Teleporting out of the way just in time to dodge another punch from All Might, Izuku landed on the hero's back and released Midnight's quirk, holding his breath as he was unsure whether he would be affected by it seeing as it wasn't his quirk.

He watched as All Might struggled to stay awake before slowly passing out, falling to the ground with a loud thud.

Stepping off the hero's back, Izuku ran over to his team to help them with their efforts of rescuing the civilians. They had managed to get most of them out but one small child was still stuck in the collapsed building.

Not thinking about it, Izuku teleported in, appearing next to the little boy. "Hey, are you hurt?"

The little boy looked up with big green eyes, shaking terribly. "I miss my mom."

Izuku felt his heart clench. "Let's get you out of here and we can find her, okay? I'll help you."

Nodding, the little boy reached out for Izuku to pick him up and the teen did just that, cradling the child close to him as he started to make his way out of the building. Glancing around at the surroundings, Izuku's breathing hitched when he noticed what kind of building it was.

A lab.

It was Izuku's turn to start shaking, so much so the little child asked him if he was okay. The teen nodded tightly, teleporting them out of the building and out where Toga, Shigaraki, and Uraraka were. He handed the child to Toga, stumbling over to a piece of rubble and falling down onto it, tears threatening to fall from his eyes.

"Rabid? Hey, Rabid, what happened?" Shigaraki crouched in front of his brother, trying to look him in the eye but Izuku's were squeezed tightly shut. "Are you okay?"

Izuku shook his head quickly, his breathing picking up pace. He simply pointed at the building where he found the little boy, taking in a gasping breath.

Shigaraki looked at his brother before standing up and peering into the building, his face contorting with rage. "Are you fucking kidding me?! Is this some kind of joke?" Reaching out with both his hands, Shigaraki used his quirk to destroy the building before returning to Izuku, his anger barely contained yet he was putting on a front for the shaken teen. "It's gone now. It can't hurt you anymore."

Throwing himself into Shigaraki's arms, Izuku choked out a sob as the announcement was made that they passed the training.

"Tomura, what's going on?" Toga and the other three approached with Eraserhead, the one conscious teacher. "Why is Rabid panicking?"

Shigaraki turned with Izuku in his arms, glaring daggers at Eraserhead. "The school thought it would be a good idea to have a civilian be rescued from a certain traumatic location. Rabid went in there by himself and brought out a little boy."

"Fuck." Dabi and Toga ran to Izuku, crouching next to the two brothers with mixed looks of anger and sadness.

"This was not planned. It was purely coincidental. The actors were told to disperse themselves throughout the grounds." Eraserhead explained, getting looks of disbelief in return.

"You could've explained not to go to a place like this." Dabi hissed. "You know what they did to him there, what it represents to him."

"I'll make sure it never happens again."

"You better." Shigaraki stood up with Izuku clinging to him, his face buried in his older brother's neck. "I heard we passed, so we're going to go to the monitor room now. This was a great first day of school."

The four rehab students and two hero course students made their way to the monitor room in silence, nobody saying a word.

After all, what was there to say?
