air it out
Dabi, Kaminari, and Shigaraki crept onto the roof, not wanting to startle Izuku. They found him sitting on the edge of the roof, his back turned to them as he stared at the almost completely set sun.
Approaching the green haired teen, the trio tried to keep their footsteps silent but ultimately failed when Izuku sighed. "Mom always loved sunsets. She never told me why but I figured it out. It meant we were one day closer to her husband coming back to us." The teen took in a shuddering breath. "She never got to see him again, not after I drove him away. It's my fault. Everything that's happened...it's because I was born. If they didn't have me, if they had a different child...mom would still be alive and All Might wouldn't have left her. But no. They got stuck with a fucking psychopath for a son."
Kaminari ignored the warning looks Shigaraki and Dabi were giving him, choosing to walk right up to Izuku and sit next to him, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. Instantly, the smaller teen melted into the touch. "Rabid, you were dealt a really shitty hand in life. That is not your fault. You did not drive All Might away, he left to go hunt down the people planning to hurt you and your mom. It was completely his own dumbass decision." Izuku snorted at Kaminari calling the number one hero a dumbass, cuddling closer to the teen. "You went through so much trauma and bullshit in such a short span of time, way more than anyone should ever have to go through in their lifetime. And yet you survived and are still trying to better yourself. You are putting in an effort and making strides to atone and recover. Going to therapy, attending this school, helping your friends, participating in class. Hell, you can even stand to be in the same room as All Might and hold a small conversation with him! That is a major improvement from when you first got here."
"Not gonna lie, it was really hard being in the same room as him while watching those videos." Izuku sniffled.
The electric blond rubbed his hand in small circles on Izuku's bicep, smiling softly at the boy curled into his side. "That makes you even braver and stronger, putting yourself through that in order to face your past and take steps towards your recovery."
Izuku felt a tear fall down his cheek. "You three came up here because you thought I was going to jump, didn't you?" Silence. "That's also why Uraraka is getting ready to float Himiko and the rest of the class is watching us with All Might right now, yeah?"
"In our defense, it wouldn't be the first time you've tried to kill yourself this way." Shigaraki coughed, walking up next to his brother and sitting on the side not occupied by Kaminari.
Dabi followed him and sat next to Shigaraki, glancing at Izuku. "That isn't why you came up here, right?"
Sighing, Izuku held his arm out towards his brother and friend. They each placed a hand on the appendage, noticing a lack of quirk canceling bracelet. Glancing behind them, they saw the offending piece of faux jewelry on the rooftop a few feet away, wondering how they missed that when they first arrived. They blamed their panic.
When all three of the other males had a hand on him, Izuku teleported them down to the ground with the rest of the class and All Might, some gasping as they had thought Izuku had jumped with the others. Once stable on their feet, Dabi and Shigaraki let go of Izuku. Kaminari slid his hand into the reforming villain's giving him a reassuring squeeze.
Izuku gave Kaminari a small, grateful smile before addressing the class. "I didn't mean to worry you guys. I wasn't going to kill myself or hurt myself. I really was just contemplating life, just not in my ro - "
He was cut off by Toga throwing herself into his arms, squeezing him tightly. "Don't scare me like that, Rabid."
"I'm sorry, Himiko. I don't plan on dying any time soon. I have some things to see through first. And before any of you get any ideas, no, it is not the downfall of All Might." Izuku glared at the hero course students, unfortunately knowing where their minds would go. "I need to see Dabi reunite with his family, minus his shit dad. I need to see Himiko get the life she deserves, full of love and happiness and acceptance. I need to see Tomura get away from his master and make his own choices, be his own person for the first time in his life." Izuku glanced at his three friends. "And I want to find whoever gave that video to Kacchan and make sure they don't have ones for Dabi, Himiko, and Tomura. They don't deserve to have their worst memories dredged up like that."
"Neither did you, Rabid." Kaminari spoke softly, the three reforming villains, Uraraka, All Might, and a few hero course students nodding.
Izuku scoffed. "You all saw what I did, what I a - "
"What we saw, Rabid, was a brave boy fighting for his and his mother's life, doing everything in his power to insure their survival. He did what he thought was best given his circumstances. He did what he had to do in order to survive, in order to protect his mother, in order to return to his father. The boy was scarred, traumatized, and conditioned into the person he was in the later videos. He didn't have much free will. He was a shell of a person, going through the motions, begging for someone to save him. He had no fight left in him, he was suicidal. Sure, he was verbally snarky, but he didn't even try to defend against beatings. He just accepted them, probably hoping that this time, this time they would finally kill him." Shinso spoke up, watching the tears well up in the green eyes of Izuku. "And if you ask me, he deserves nothing but good things, just like those you wish for your friends."
Izuku viciously wiped the tears away with his free hand, a small laugh coming from his mouth. "If you guys tell anyone I cried like a baby, I'll ki - kick your butts. Can't say I'll unalive you anymore because according to our therapist that's criminal behavior."
"It kind of is, babycakes." Toga hummed, nudging Izuku.
"Can't call me that anymore, your girlfriend might get upset." Izuku stuck his tongue out, a stray tear leaking out of his eye.
Uraraka blushed, a giggle leaving her throat. "Oh, no. I don't mind. Watching Himiko tease you is funny."
Izuku gasped, turning to Kaminari with puppy dog eyes. "Kami, you're not going to betray me too, right?"
Kaminari put his free hand under his chin, a thinking expression on his face. "Hm, only if you agree to call me Denki."
Dabi and Shigaraki gagged from behind the couple and the almost-couple. "Gross. Sappy shit is so not my shit."
"Especially when it involves my brother. Yuck."
"Oh, shut up, T squared." Izuku whined, stomping his foot. "You two are just jealous that Himiko and I are actually emotionally mature enough to progress our crushes into relationships whereas you two are still dancing around your feelings for one another by 'keeping it casual'."
Dabi rolled his eyes. "Rabid, you and Himiko both broke down crying when Tomura killed a spider in our holding cell."
"She was a single mom who worked two jobs, who loved her kids and never stopped. With gentle hands and a kind heart, she was a survivor!" Toga choked out, tears welling in her eyes when she remembered the spider.
"Until you Detroit smashed her into the fucking afterlife! Now who is going to take care of her kids? Who is the one to tell them mommy is never coming home? Huh? Huh!?" Izuku wailed, hugging Toga.
Shigaraki pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily. "Both of you realize that she was a goddamn fucking spider, right? And that the two of you have taken multiple human lives in much more gruesome ways than simply stepping on a tiny bug?"
"In their defense, humans are the only animals that understand morals and therefore are the only ones that have the capacity to be good or evil. Spiders and other living creatures are all pure neutrals, just living their best lives, trying to survive." Kaminari shrugged.
"When the fuck did you get so smart?" Bakugou narrowed his eyes at his fellow blond.
"Kacchan, cool it. Denki has always been smart. You are just too far up your own ass to notice other's talents and accomplishments." Izuku squeezed Kaminari's hand when the other teen beamed at him.
"Whatever, Deku."
"Ha! Kaminari gets it. So your example of our emotional instability doesn't hold up, Dabi." Toga stuck her tongue out, blowing a raspberry.
"Exhibit B, you are acting like a child."
"Well, I am only fifteen..." Toga smirked. "You're not winning this."
"Admit defeat or we'll be here all night." Shigaraki sighed, holding his hands up in surrender. "I give. You two are...emotionally mature."
"There. Now why was that so hard?" Toga beamed.
"'Cause he wasn't on his knees begging for Da - "
A pair of hands slapped over Izuku's mouth and the teen grinned behind them, looking up to see both his brother and Dabi smiling sinisterly at him, promising pain if he kept talking. "It's getting late, why don't we all head inside and have some dinner, yeah? Kaminari, I believe you promised us the best portions before our therapy session."
"Oh! And dessert." Toga chimed in, slipping her hand into Uraraka's and tugging her towards the door of the dorms while the rest of the class followed.
All Might stayed standing where he was, staring after the class as they made their way to the dorms. He gave them all a sad smile, his eyes trained on the back of his son's head.
As if sensing eyes on him, Izuku turned his head, making eye contact with All Might. He paused in his walk with Kaminari, tugging the blond back with him a few yards until he was closer to All Might. His eyes were trained on the grass between them. "Hey..."
"Hi..." All Might swallowed thickly. "Izu - Rabid...I - "
The teen rubbed the back of his neck, sighing before looking up at All Might. "Look, I can't do this right now." The hero nodded, his heart dropping slightly. "But...I guess...I guess I wouldn't be opposed to the idea...the idea of family therapy...in the future."
Toshinori's eyes widened. "Are you...are you sure? I-I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
Izuku chuckled. "If we're going to be at the same school and coexist with each other, we have to talk at some point. Might as well get it over with, yeah?"
All Might gave his son a small smile. "Alright. Yeah. Just let me know when you're ready and I'll be there."
"Thanks..." Izuku looked like he wanted to say more but chose not to, instead opting to pull Kaminari back to the dorms, glancing over his shoulder at the smiling hero before entering the building and closing the door behind them.
The first year students of class A diffused the tension as they all helped make dinner, cracking jokes as they went, a very lively atmosphere in the air.
For most of them.
Nobody seemed to notice a certain student slipping away to 'use the bathroom', pulling out their phone once away from prying eyes to send a text.
?: I successfully showed everyone the truth about Rabid and destabilized him. He was so shaken up, he even went as far as to ask All Might to join him in family therapy. Everything is going smoothly. What am I to do next?
Sensei: Relieve the pressure on Rabid. Focus on one of the others. I want them all back.
?: Of course. Who is my next target?
The student smiled down at their phone when Sensei sent a picture of their next target along with a plan of action, turning their phone off before returning to the group of first years. They greeted everyone else casually, eyeing their target from across the room as they interacted with the other students, hiding an excited grin behind a mug as they sipped their tea.
This may be even more fun then screwing with that damn Izuku.
