"Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real."
- Cormac McCarthy, All the pretty horses

Adora slowly opened her eyes, a light is now only a blurry vision from what her brain can generate. She rapidly blinked, her mine scavenged through the lost memories so she could remember what was going on.

The crash.

She turned her head to the side to see plastic tubes connected to her and an oxygen mask. She shot up and the oxygen mask fell. She felt her hair flowing down her shoulders, longer than she used to be. It was now eleven centimetres from her shoulder (convert if you use different measurements).

No, it couldn't be. She was dead.

"Your awake Adora," a familiar voice said.

Adora knew that voice all too well. She turned around to see Madame Malus in her emotional expression.

"What the hell is going on?!" she growled at her former mentor

"Well does it look like Adora? My, my dear you should rest," Madame Malus urged closer but Adora just moved back

"What do you want?"

Madame Malus stepped back breathing out and relaxed her shoulders.

"Only for you to become the title you were born to wield, The Red Angel," Madame said

"Like hell, I will," she barked back

"Oh, you will. For the sake of the league and titans," Madame Malus raised her head slightly

It was true to her words, the Clairvoyant were that powerful that even without powers. They could take them out with only a few dying. If she were to get out she had to play smart, cause what we're taking on thousands of Val's.

"Fine," she snarl

"Good, rest up Adora," she left the room.

A month ago, the day of the crash Damian put on his Robin costume and wandered the streets of Gotham. He needed to space like Adora had said. He constantly cursed himself with the fight with his beloved.

Stupid he thought

Stupid Stupid Stupid. Why would she love him now? Maybe he was a burden, why did she even love him in the first place? He had fought through his anger with thugs constantly ignoring his father's calls for an entire hour. She was the one thing he could assure that he had hope for, faith in the matter. Now all he could think about was getting her back.

An hour and a half had passed by and finally his father, Batman stood before him.

"If you're going to give me a lecture-," Damain growled

"Robin enough, it's Val," Batman said

Damian thoughts stopped when he heard those words

"She got into a car crash, Barbra informed us from her dad. She's in the hospital as we speak, we've been trying to call you for the past-,"

Before he even finished Damian raced towards the hospital, getting changed into civilian clothes. He rushed to the private area where his whole family were eagerly worried, Rachel was there too as she was Val's best friend. Dick made it as well, Kori instantly forced him after hearing the news.

Damian was all over the place, pacing back and forth and soon his brothers comforting and calming him. After everything, he said he regretted it more than ever. He needed to see her again if that's the last thing he did-, the palm of his hands were numb, he felt fear more than ever. He replayed thoughts of that the doctor would say that she was alright, over and over again.

Tears rolled down his eyes, the first time anyone saw him cry.

She was everything to him, his rock, his anchor, his world, his universe. He wouldn't stop moving, he would fidget by repeatedly tapping his foot.

"D, it's going to be okay," His eldest brother said.

"Well what if-," he broke into tears "I can't lose her Dick," he used his name.

"I-, I don't know, I- just-," he ran his hands through his hair.

"Shhh, it'll be ok," Jason rubbed his brother's back.

The doctor came out holding the clipboard trying to hold the sadness within, but they all saw through it.

"How is she, doctor?" Bruce finally said

"I-," he barely said looking at Damian seeing the look on his face. He gripped the board tightly. "She's a fighter that one, but-," he stopped

Damian just stood up. "No! No, she has to be alive!" he said with tears falling down like a waterfall.

"She-, she didn't make it, I'm so sorry,"

By the time he said those words Rachel had her hand on her mouth crying deeply, sadness filled the room. Damian-, when the words hit him he felt the whole universe crash down on him. It felt hard to breathe, he refused to think that she was dead. They say when you find the person their instantly their second half. Well, Damian felt like everything-, his whole-, was stripped away from him and was only an empty hollow void.

"Little D?" Dick said getting up before he reached the Damian he pushed away and he stormed out to the rooftop.

"I'll get him," Bruce said following his biological son.

He found his son kneeling and hid arms on the concrete railing, his face hidden in his arms. He was crying, he felt that it was his fault. Bruce went down to his level kneeling and putting a hand on his son's shoulder and instantly Damian fled to his father's comfort hiding his face in his father's neck, Bruce hugged his son knowing the pain of losing someone he loved, many in fact.

"I messed up, I should have told her I loved her, it's all my fault father," Damian cried

"It isn't your fault Damian-,"

"But it is, if I only wasn't so reckless, she wouldn't have come. She wouldn't get into that taxi-, she wouldn't have gotten into that crash, she wouldn't have-," he trembled in his own words "she wouldn't have-,"

"It's okay Damian, it's going to be okay," he assured

"Is it really father? Does it get better?"

"It will, somehow. But you can't lose yourself, you have to have your centre. You have us, the titans, everyone to support you, it will take time Damian,"

The news spread hard. The titans mourned of their teammate, their friend's death. Everyone had a strong yet different connection to Val, she been there for them through thick and thin.

Jon, Jon cried hard Val. Val was like a twin to her. He always had a strong connection towards family. Val was what inspired him to become a titan, how she easily inspired everybody, how she demonstrated leadership and kindness.

Jamie, when the news broke to Jamie Gar visited his apartment he had Traci over. Jamie cried, she was like a little sister towards him, always embracing his culture and dealing with his scarab. Traci knew how much she meant to him, she knew that without meeting her she might not even be with Heimae

Gar, she again was like a sister to him. She was the one that helped him through his difference with his skin colour. Before the Gar, we all know to embrace his skin colour and uniqueness, he was actually very insecure about it all. But Val, being Val she talked with him and helped to see himself in a different light. She helped him embrace the goofy, Leo-like, Gar we all know.

Billy, not knowing her for too long was shocked and sad at his best friends death. When Billy found out he was Reverse Flash's nephew she was the first one to reach out of him, he admired her for that and she became his first friend for that.

Donna, Donna cried and asked the gods why they have taken away a great leader, warrior, teacher, friend and most importantly sister from the earth. Val made her feel comfortable in the Titans Tower, she taught so many tricks, admired her character.

Rachel, helping her with her father cried for her best friends death. She brought her back when she sunk too deep, helped her with Gar.

The news also got through to the league. Diana, Clark and Cyborg were shocked at her death, and she was only fifteen. They were all going to surprise Val with a birthday surprise in a few months since they found out her birthday.

Finally, Damian. The one closet to her broke. For weeks he locked himself in his room in the dark and mostly slept, dreaming about his beloved. He drowned in an ocean of sorrow and despair, never knowing he would swim back up. He cried himself to sleep still think it was his fault of his true love's death.

He felt empty

Hollow.

It felt hard to breathe most of the time.

Hard to walk.

Do

Most days he wanted to die, thinking it would end the pain.

Hardly anyone was allowed in his room, sometimes Alfred. Hell, Titus wasn't allowed.

He didn't train

Didn't go on patrol

But was caught up in his fantasy-
that his beloved was alive-
Well, with him,
And he devoted every second with her

Caught up in his own fantasy world

But slowly drowning in a sea of despair
