Memories of the past

Btw guys I changed Val's backstory so scrap that, you'll find out in the end if ur reading this in 2020

Damian (still sixteen), decided he would return to the titan's tower. It was late August, a late summer breeze blew into his window in the manor as he was packing. He was still broken, like a perfect vase that stood just collapsed on the floor shattering. He-, at first didn't want to go but he needed to heal somehow- whether it was seeing ghosts of past memories of her in the hallways or seeing her on that beach.

He felt the presence of his dog Titus, walking on his padded feet and nudges his head to his master's waste. Damian turned around looking at his black canine, sighing he sat down on his bed and scratched between the large ears of the black beast.

"It will be different Titus, truly different," Damian said and Titus just looked at his master.

"She won't be there Titus," He said looking at his dog who you evidently see his sadness, he walked away out of his bedroom and in return Alfred came in.

"Are you ready master Damian?" Alfred said

"I guess," he said unemotionally

The British butler sighed seeing the pain plastered on the young heir's face. He knew it would be a good start to heal but it's would also the most painful part. Damian got up walked out to the black limousine leaving Alfred to pick up the bags.

Alfred dragging out his bags looked at the depressed master through the tinted window. You would first think why would he be so sad when he at everything at his disposal. He was rich and the heir to one of the most successful companies in the world and most powerful in Gotham, outrageously handsome - courtesy of his father and mother-, deviously smart, one hundred per cent talented, has a good family to support him (father side). But when you take a second glance, a deeper one you see that he had lost everything, that all he had was absolutely useless to him.

The three-hour drive was silent, silent as a library. Alfred didn't want to trigger any memories of Val and Damian didn't give a damn to talk. Entering jump city and the titan's tower he watched the same bushes and trees he passed by when he was fourteen. The car stopped and Damian saw his fellow teammates waiting outside. Alfred opened the car and to reveal the raven-haired boy. The team smiled and went to him, not trying a too exciting approach.

"Hey, dude! We missed you having you around! Do you know how quiet it is in the training room? We missed you!" Gar said but Rachel nudged him to not get carried away.

"Yeah D, the team is a mess without a leader! We glad you came!"Jon beamed

"We pretty much haven't touched your room, except I found Gar using some of your moisturisers that you left behind," Rachel said eyeing at Gar and Damian just raising a brow.

"What?! It feels so great on my skin!" Gar said.

"Anyways, besides that, your room is still the same," Rachel said.

Titus got out and just strutted off to his master's old room.

Damian walked into his room, and indeed as was told, it was kept the same. He looked at Titus's large bed on the floor which was empty he went outside and looked around.

"Titus," he called out.

He heard a bark from one of the rooms.

"Titus?" He called out again.

Another bark came from across the room, that room...

"Titus," he said a little bit more softly.

The bark came from her room, that confirmed it. Damian walked to the door that was slightly opened and stood at the door and took in deep a breath opening the door. The room was kept the same, the same cream sheets that were rippled due to Titus sitting on top. The fairy lights were turned off and the same polaroid/Instax pictures were hung, being pegged to the same string.

"Titus," he barely even said.

He looked around, seeing memories-, ghosts of Val. On the bed was Val reading or watching something that made her laugh. On the floor in front of him, he saw Val laughing dancing around the room, pirouetting gracefully with a flowy dress. On her desk, she was sitting in front of the chair just working on her computer.

A bark came that snapped him out of his gaze, he looked at Titus like he had just seen a ghost. He wiped his tears from his eyes and sat down next to Titus.

"I miss her too," he said.

Walking outside he walked alongside the beach where he saw Val goofing around, riding on Damian back and smiling. He looked towards the horizon and sat near the water watching the sunset sink into the water. He turned onto his side and saw Val watching the sunset too, with her hair blowing back.

There was this one time, one time that he watched a Disney movie with Val. He at first thought it was stupid, the mermaid movie. What was it? he thought. Little-, Little Mermaid.

How? He thought that a girl from the ocean who had everything, the princess of the entire ocean who was reckless, selfish in a manner wanted more, just had to obey one rule by not socialise with the human world which- soon fell in love with a human prince. Damian knew that why the hell did Ariel abuse the freedom she had, after all that trouble with making a contract with the sea witch and soon caused her father to almost live his life as a worm suddenly doesn't suffer the consequences and gets what she wants? How stupid he would think.

But now, now was different. After all his recklessness, the way he treated Val that night he would expect Val to come walking out the ocean in a sparkly metallic dress happy and Damian would run to her swinging her around. That they would be happy and live happily ever after like in those stupid fairy tales? Well-,

Well he thought

He would do anything to bring all back, maybe not Lazurus pit since of what happened with his mother but he would go to lengths to bring Val back, he would even make a bloody deal with the sea witch if he had to.

Watching the sunset, all his hallucinations disappeared. The laughter of Val in corridors disappeared, Val in the kitchen disappeared, Val in her room disappeared, her dancing disappeared.

She was gone

A ghost

Nothing more than a memory of the past.
