•To Love Somebody•
Chapter 7
We drove to the Nashville Cancer Society in silence. We were too nervous to speak.
We pulled into the parking lot and parked into one of the open parking spots.
He was nervous, I could tell by the way he stared out the windshield quietly and twisted his hands around the steering wheel.
"Everything will be fine, if you don't have anything, that will be amazing and if you do then I will be right beside you to guide you and get us through this together. What we go through will teach us and only make us stronger. I love you Jakobi you are the closest thing to a brother I have, okay?" I said quietly, taking his hand getting his attention.
"Danielle, thank you, I don't think I could ask for a more amazing best friend," Jakobi said squeezing my hand.
"Are you ready for this?" I said looking into his brown eyes. "With you... yes," Jakobi said giving me a hug.
We got out of the car and walked to the waiting room. We looked around and was surprised to see that no one was here.
We walked up to the desk and Jakobi squeezed my hand tighter. "Jakobi Milde," Jakobi said greeting the woman at the desk. "Okay Jakobi, Dr. Suttles will meet with you in room 106. Go through that door on the right, then take the elevator to the second floor," the lady said pointing to the door on the right.
When we got to the room Jakobi seemed more nervous and awkward than ever. I wish that it wasn't him going through this. I hate seeing him so messed up.
"Hello, Jakobi so I see you are here for your lung screening and blood test," said Dr. Suttles.
Dr. Suttles seemed to be a mixed man in his late 30s to his early 40s and wore glasses. He looked nice to me. "Any questions?"
"Yes uhm... how long will this be?" Jakobi said pointing to me.
"Don't worry, your friend here can sit in the room with me checking your MRI status while you are in there for 10 minutes, and the blood tests will only take enough time to take some blood and make sure you are stable enough to leave, your test results will be in 2 to 5 days and when we receive information we will call you, now if there is anything wrong we will call you for a follow up visit and we will go from there, okay?" the doctor explained to us with a serious look. "Okay thank you."
The doctor lead us to the MRI room. The doctor told me to enter the door on the left and I did. The room was filled with gadgets of all kinds and flashing lights. While the doctor helped Jakobi with getting into the MRI tube I took a seat and watched out of the two way mirror. He looks so fragile and scared.
After Jakobi was set the doctor came into the room and took the seat next me. "So what is your name?" Dr. Suttles questioned.
"Danielle. Can I ask you a question?"
He nodded.
"What is the chance that Jakobi has cancer just anywhere?" I said quietly sitting up in my seat. "Well more than likely if he has cancer it will be a tumor on his lung from his vital signs that is what it is hinting, plus just looking at Jakobi he seems to be showing signs of previous patients I have had of cancer," the doctor replied bluntly.
"If he doesn't have cancer will he be one of the lucky ones?"
"Most definitely," the doctor assured me.
After about 10 minutes Jakobi and I was let go to the blood test room.
"Jakobi, we are ready for you," one of the nurses in the corner called for us.
Jakobi gave blood which was nasty. I watched his blood creep up into the tube. The doctor gave Jakobi a cookie, which I took a bite out of, and some juice and told him to take a seat and if he didn't feel queasy or lightheaded he could leave at 12:15.
At 12:15 me and Jakobi left to the car. On the way home we picked up Wendy's.
We arrived at my house at about 2:30. I unlocked the door and went up to my room and of course Jakobi followed.
I undressed in the bathroom into something more comfortable. When I returned Jakobi was sitting in the floor picking at my carpeted floor. I threw my previously worn clothes into the hamper and sat down with Jakobi.
"Danielle is everything okay, you seem kinda distant ever since we left?" Jakobi said after I sat on the other beanbag chair beside him. "No everything is fine, don't worry about it," I said about to cry not daring to look at him.
"Don't you dare lie to me. What is wrong? You can't just say everything is fine." He took me into his arms and made me look at him. He saw my tears and was taken aback by them.
I couldn't take it anymore I was going to melt into his arms. "Nothing, I'm fine," I said cuddling into Jakobi's neck. "Danielle Mona Thyme, tell me what's wrong right now," Jakobi said raising his voice a little.
"The doctor said you would be lucky if you didn't have cancer on your lung, and to tell you the truth... I don't know if I will be able to go through with this again. I barely made it through alive with Mason and I am still trying to get over him. Jakobi I just don't want to lose somebody I love again, I miss Mason and I want him back and I don't want to have to miss two people for the same reason. Jakobi, I don't want to lose you, I love you too much," I said crying.
"Danielle you aren't going to lose me, I wouldn't put you through that pain and hurt again, and I love you too much to hurt you like that," Jakobi said getting up and carrying me to the bed. He pulled the covers over us and cuddled with me until we fell asleep together.
I then realized I think I love my best friend... ...
