Chapter Seven
Percy sped down the road as fast as possible, turning on his police sirens that FBI were strictly not prohibited to use unless an emergency. And this was an emergency.
"Can you go any slower?" The girl sitting behind him in an orange jumpsuit complained, brushing her long dark brown hair out of her angelic face. And leaning in between Percy and the girl on his right.
"Shut up Bianca. I can easily take you back to prison," Percy growled, but he sped up a little.
Percy wandered down the hallway of the town jail, where there were seven people. Six of them Percy had no interest in. Percy strode past all of them, and towards the scrawny Latino boy with curly brown hair. He sat on a chair in his cell facing away from everything and in the corner. He was tinkering with something in his hands that Percy couldn't see. Percy pulled up the nearest chair and sat on it straddled looking at Leo.
"Leo Valdez, attempted murder, huh?" Percy said loudly and Leo started turning towards him, "poor Piper. Piper McLean, famous movie star, almost murdered by her mere assistant. What was it? Were you jealous?"
Leo ran with blinding speed towards Percy and threw a punch through the bars. Percy easily caught his fist.
"Nice to meet you too. I'm Agent Percy Jackson," Percy said shaking Leo's fist.
They were caught in a stare down. Finally Leo leaned closer towards Percy so his head was touching the cold metal bars.
"I didn't do it," he growled. Then Percy let go of Leo's fist and Leo yanked it back. He walked back to the corner of his cell and kept tinkering and muttering.
"You think I don't know that?" Percy said after a few moments. Leo froze and slowly turned his chair around.
"Then why are here interrogating me?" Asks Leo. Percy snorts.
"Interrogating? No. Questioning? No. Talking? Yes. You see, I need to you tell me which one of these other criminals you saw on your way out of the building," Percy said. Leo looked confused. The whole building had gone silent listening to their conversation.
"What do you mean?" Leo asked.
An hour earlier Percy had gotten a call that on the same day that Leo had attempted murder, a prisoner was missing. They didn't know who, because the rest of the prisoners wouldn't say. But somehow the video cameras had gone out that day in the station, so the only proof that one prisoner was missing was that a newbie guard only counted five prisoners and not six. He didn't know their names and barley registered what they looked like. When he got back from calling the FBI office, the person was back. But to him, all of them looked the same in their orange jumpsuits.
"There was a prisoner missing the other day. I believe they are associated with the situation at hand. It wasn't Drew who called the police. I called her an hour ago and she admitted that she never called the police but she did scream for help. That must of been the signal for the prisoner who escaped to call the police anonymously and that's when Leo got arrested. Whoever was pretending to be Leo snuck out while real Leo was arrested. And I suspect they were standing nearby while you were being arrested.
Leo remembered there was a girl at the desk, but Leo just thought she was a ticket seller at the front of the theater. Or a janitor. After all, she had been wearing a orange jump suit.... Leo froze and explained that to Percy. He grinned.
"Take a look around. Who was it?" Percy asked.
"Yes, tell us, please. Because what your planning is perfectly safe, Agent Jackson," a girls voice said behind Percy. He spun around and saw her. Annabeth Chase, a small smile playing on her lips.
"You don't even know what I'm planning," Percy said. Annabeth laughed.
"Really? Your planning to let the prisoner out to help you track down whoever is keeping your best friend Jason Grace hostage," Annabeth said, smirking. Percy was stunned.
"Close your mouth, Agent Jackson," Annabeth said. Percy just rolled his eyes.
"Her," Leo said, pointing to a girl with soft features, long dark brown hair, large dark eyes, and a small smiling expression.
"Oh, if that's your plan, I'm totally in. If it means killing the Titans, I'm in," she grinned, cracking her knuckles. Percy and Annabeth raised their eyebrows. Percy walked towards her cell and opened it with a key on the wall.
"If you try to double cross me once, I will personally bring you to Tartarus," Percy said. The girl pales. Tartarus is the worst jail in the world. It treated their prisoners like slaves, tortured them, and occasionally killed them. Most ended up finding a way to kill themselves before their term was done.
"Trust me," the girl says, color returning to her face, "I want to kill the Titans just as much as you. And I'll explain later, where ever we're going for my interrogation session. As long as I don't have to be cooped up here all day," she said stretching. She stepped out of the cell and Percy closed it behind her.
Suddenly, his phone rang and he grabbed it hitting answer.
"Agent Jackson, there's an emergency, another kidnap in a back alleyway next to HellHound lane. Someone witnessed a kidnapping while heading back from work. We need you on it, fast," his boss said.
"On it, Agent Chiron," Percy said. "Change of plans, were driving to a kidnapping and your gonna help me find out what's going on."
"Alright, lets go," the girl said rubbing her hands together. "I never managed to tell you who I was anyway. My name is Bianca."
"I'm coming too," Annabeth said. Percy turned around glaring.
"No, your not," he said.
"Yes, I am. You need a lawyers help," Annabeth said. Percy sighed.
"Fine, but only cause I'm pretty sure I'll have to force you out of the car and it's an emergency," Percy said. The three of them ran to his car and jumped in, Annabeth in the shotgun, Bianca in the back. That's when Percy realized something.
"Hey, guys. I locked my car when I went inside. Someone must of got in..." Percy said.
"Probably nothing. Maybe you forgot to lock it," Annabeth said. Percy shook the uneasy feeling as they sped off towards HellHound lane.
