Chapter Eleven
"Alright Cupcakes, front stoke three laps, backstroke two, breast stroke four, butterflies five!" Shouted the high school swim coach, Coach Gleeson Hedge.
"Five butterflies?! Coach, cmon, cut us some slack, we all had a big day yesterday at the swim meet," Percy says, his seventeen year old high school self looking at coach hedge.
"Percy, your the captain and best on the team, for the gods sake! You can do all that easily!" Coach Hedge barked. Percy bit his lower lip. He wasn't concerned with the drills at all, but he was concerned for his team mates. Everyone was exhausted from the meet, except him. No matter how much swimming he did, it never exhausted him.
"I'm...tired. And I'm sure everyone else is too," Percy adds quickly to not seem like a whiny prince.
"Fine, I'll make you a deal Jackson. Two butterflies," he says. Everyone shoots Percy a grateful glance, and some sigh with relief. He agrees with coach and he yells at everyone to take their positions on their designated lanes. Percy positions himself about to dive into the water.
Coach blows his whistle and they all dive. As soon as Percy touches the water, energy and adrenaline course through him. He dolphin kicks until he reaches the surface, and then starts front stroking. He doesn't even have to look back to know that he is well ahead of everyone else.
Soon he has finished, and he has lapped everyone else at least three times. He climbs out of the water, not bothering to reach for a towel. Coach claps him on the back.
"Percy Jackson," he says, "you never fail to amaze me."
But this was not high school.
And this was not an Olympic sized training pool. This was the swirling churning waters of the River Styx, the river that ran around HalfBlood City.
Percy quickly unbuckled himself as the car hits the bottom of the river with a thud. Bianca is behind him trying to open the door, bubbles flying out of her mouth. Annabeth is next to him, her eyes squinted but full of fear. Percy makes a noise at Bianca trying to say 'go faster!' His head is getting kind of clouded, and he feels his breath slowly running out.
He lies back and aims his feet at the top corner of the side window. He kicks as hard as possible and the glass shatters, scattering in the water. He swims out and quickly turns around to see Annabeth struggling to kick her window out. He makes another sound and she turns around, her expression tired. He reached out his arm and she grabs it, and he pulls her through the gap. Their clothes have ripped on the glass and they have cuts along out bodies.
Percy hears a popping sound to see Bianca has opened the door and is swimming out, heading towards the light of the river. Halfway up, bubble start coming out of her mouth faster and Percy can tell she is drowning. He looks at Annabeth who is still clutching his hand, and she looks just about of pass out.
Percy pulls her up and swims as fast as he can with her in tow, towards Bianca. Bianca thrashes but only goes down. Percy reaches towards her and with his free hand, and grabs her arm. She is still trying to breathe in the water, but he starts dragging the two of them towards the surface, the light getting closer.
Was that a good thing?
His own lungs gasped for air, and his chest felt like someone was trying to squeeze his heart and soul out. The light got closer and he noticed Bianca was going limp. Suddenly, they broke the surface, all three of them gasping for breath. Shore was only feet away, and gasping for breath the three of them dragged themselves on shore. They coughed and spluttered out water, and taking bigger grips of breath than Percy would've have thought possible.
"We...we're...actually alive," Bianca says, out of breath. They all laugh-hysterically or not-and it feels good. Percy rolls over onto his back staring at the sky.
"I tried to warn you, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said to him. He looked at her in confusion and her and Bianca laughed in between deep breaths. Annabeth reached over and plucked a piece of seaweed off his head. He would've laughed if he still had breath in him.
"Okay, if your so smart," he pondered for a moment, "Wise Girl, then maybe you could explain what chemical or machine caused my car to lose control and go crashing off the bridge?" Annabeth shrugged. Then everything else came flooding back.
"Those assholes, they got away," Percy growls. Bianca sighs, sitting up and coughing up some more water.
"What do we do now?" She asks. They both look at Annabeth. She's obviously the smart one, so they should follow her. She looked at them, her expression steely calm.
"Next stop on the get-us-killed-train, a visit to Leo Valdez. We need to find out more about Sammy," she says.

Sorry guys I wrote this whole chapter in Percy's POV by accident, getting it mixed up with another one of my books. Sorry for those of you who read it like that, but I have fixed it now!
