Twelve
Yoongi sat up and rubbed his eyes, adjusting them to the darkness in his room. He realised he must've fallen asleep while caressing Jimin's hair, he'd been very tired himself.
He got up from the bed and moved towards the window, peering down into the street below.
It was quiet and all the lights in the houses were out, the only source of light being the street lamps. The sky had a greyish tinge towards the horizon, indicating that dawn was near.
Yoongi went back to his bed and picked up his phone, checking the time. 4:00 am. He and Jimin had been asleep for 10 hours.
The said boy stirred next to him and his eyes fluttered open, taking in his surroundings. Yoongi went back to the window, pulled the curtains shut and switched on the light.
Jimin put up a hand in front of his face, shielding his eyes from the sudden brightness.
"Yoongi hyung?" He called in a slightly raspy voice.
Yoongi gulped.
Jimin's morning voice was hot.
Fuck fuck fuck.
Yoongi couldn't think like that, not when Taehyung and Jimin were already dating. Jimin saw him nothing more than a best friend, and right now his priority was to make Jimin feel better, and get him to talk about what had upset him so much.
"Hyung, what's the time?" Jimin repeated, putting down his hand, his eyes having adjusted to the light.
For god's sake, Park Jimin. Stop talking for a minute.
"4:00 am," Yoongi said, taking a deep breath and moving back towards the bed. "How're you feeling?"
"I...don't know." Jimin said sadly, his head hung down.
Yoongi moved closer to Jimin, and took the boy in his arms again. He rubbed his hand over the back of Jimin's head, softly ruffling his hair.
"What happened?" Yoongi asked, in a much softer voice. "Who made you cry?"
"T-taehyung." Jimin managed, choking on the tears that were threatening to spill from his eyes.
Yoongi pulled away, his eyes wide with confusion. "Taehyung? What did he do?"
Jimin narrated everything he'd overheard to Yoongi, and before he knew it, he was spilling out all his concerns about the day before, everything that had happened with Hyuna; he let out the whirlwind of emotions inside him, sharing his feelings of helplessness and confusion with his best friend.
Yoongi was a good listener. He didn't interrupt, nor did he remove his attention from Jimin. He sat and listened to every word patiently, letting the boy bare his heart out to him. He wanted to know, he wanted to care, he wanted Jimin to trust him with everything. He wanted to make it right.
Jimin might've been unaware of it, but he meant the world to Yoongi. His happiness was Yoongi's happiness, his sorrow was Yoongi's sorrow. And that's why Yoongi was ready to let go, ready to let Taehyung be Jimin's, because he knew it was what Jimin really wanted.
And right now, seeing his baby boy (that's what he liked to call Jimin in his head) heartbroken made Yoongi's heart break too. He was ready to flay Taehyung alive; who ever gave him the right to not only break Jimin's heart, but speak rubbish about him in front of the guy?
He took Jimin's hands in his own and looked at the boy straight in the eyes.
"Jimin, confront him today. I'll go with you if you want to. Bash his head into the wall if he says anything wrong again. If he thinks he can hurt you, you can hurt him too. Tell him two can play at a game."
Jimin gave a scared whimper.
"Hyung, I can't do that. I love him. Even if his feelings weren't genuine, mine were. I can't hurt him. And I'm...scared. I just don't know. How am I going to face him?"
Yoongi gave him a small smile.
"Baby, I know. I know it's hard for you, and I love that you're such an angel. But I know my Jiminie can growl when he wants to. Stand up to him. Ask him to own up to what he did, don't let him sweet talk you into his lies again! Demand an explanation Jimin, he owes it to you. Make him know that he can't play around with your feelings like that."
Jimin nodded, feeling much better. He was glad he'd run into his best friend. Yoongi always knew how to solve everything. Yoongi had always been his strength, his pillar of support. He'd always been there for him, silently understanding, lifting him up. And Jimin was grateful for that beyond words.
Yoongi checked the time again. 5:30 am. They'd been for talking for long.
"We wake up at 6 anyway for school, so I guess we should start washing up, hmm?" Yoongi told Jimin, opening his closet and taking out some clothes for the boy. "Mum and dad won't be back from the business trip for another week, so I'll be making breakfast. I'm glad we half an hour extra for that."
Yoongi gave Jimin one of his biggest gummy smiles that instantly brightened up his mood, and the duo started to get ready for another day at school.
