( thirteen. )
June stepped aside as her father closed the door, nothing on her mind but what had just happened. Her fingers touched her lips as she tried to savor the feeling she had as they were kissing. It was something else. Something she hadn't felt in a long time if ever.
"What the hell June." Her father said, snapping her out of her trance. She looked up at him, dropping her hand to her side and trying to get rid of the smile that was permanently stuck to her face.
"What dad?" She said, pushing past him and into the kitchen. She grabbed a glass and made herself a glass of water.
"What do you mean what? Um why were you kissing JJ on the steps out there, where have you been all day, and where did you go last night?" June's eyes widened more and more as her dads questions went on.
"I've been...hanging out with some other people. That's where I've been. I was just out having a good time." June said being the glass to her lips and taking a sip.
"That doesn't explain you making out in our front step. And it doesn't make up for how worried your mother and I were about you all day. You didn't tell us anything."
"Well I figured you'd get mad at me for hanging out with John B and JJ and them."
"I don't care who you hang out with as long as you're not getting into trouble. You just have to let us know before you run off okay?" He laid a hand on her shoulder, and June nodded. "Especially with all these dead bodies turning up." Her dad finished, his eyes widening as he started turning away from her and heading towards the door out of the room. June was quick to pick up on what he said, going on the other side of the kitchen island and leaning against it.
"Bodies? Plural? I thought only Scooter Grubbs was found? Is someone else dead?" Her dad seemed to stop in his tracks. He turned his head so she could only the half of it.
"No no... I meant one." With that he took off up that stair, leaving June to her thoughts. The talk of the bodies soon left her mind as she made her way to her room, a dreamy smile on her lips. She kept replaying it over and over again, thinking about how good of a kisser he was. Her cheeks were red hot as she thought about it, her smile never faltering. She reached over and cut her lamp off, laying down to go to sleep.

When June awoke the next morning she made her way down the stairs, no trace of a smile on her face. June had heard her parents walking by her room and talking in hushed whispers about 400 million dollars. June was not mistaken, she was sure of what she had heard.
"Hey honey." Her mother said, a smile on her face as she sat a cup of coffee on the island for June. Her father was sitting at the table, his reading glasses on as he looked through some files.
"What are you looking at dad?" June asked, walking over to try and see what he was looking at. He closed the file as she got closer, making June squint her eyes.
"Oh nothing honey. Go get dressed, one of your little friends is in the bathroom." June eyes widened at that, turning her head as the toilet flushed simultaneously. The events of last night all came rushing back suddenly. She had forgotten what had happened due to her piqued curiosity at her parents millions conversation. She didn't know which one of them was going to come around the corner, her dad hadnt really clarified, but she couldn't help but hope it was JJ.
She let out a small sigh as she saw John B walk around the corner, a smile on his face as he lifted his hand to wave at June. She waved back before looking back at her parents.
"John would you like some coffee? It's fresh." June's mother offered, holding up her mug. June didn't stick around for the answer as she made her way towards her room to get changed. She quickly changed, looking at her self in the mirror and running the brush through her hair as fast as possible. She didn't want to leave John B with her parents for too long because she figured they would start asking him about his life or something.
"You ready?" June asked, walking up behind John B. She didn't give him a chance to answer as she grabbed his arm and started pulling him away towards the door.
"What time will you be home?" He mom called after them.
"I don't know." June said, right before closing the door. June let go of John B, letting him make his way to the drivers seat of the van.
"Where's everybody else?" June asked, looking into the backseat before jumping into the passenger side.
"Oh they're out waiting. I told them I'd come get you real quick and then we could start." June nodded her head as he answered, hoping that they would find the Royal Merchant today.
"Hey John B..." June lead, remembering what she had heard that morning from her parents. It seemed important that he knew what she had heard.
"Yeah?" He said, looking over at her for a second before looking back at the road.
"I heard my parents talking this morning about something... they were talking about something and then I heard them say 400 million dollars. And to me that's a pretty specific amount there. So I think they could be talking about the merchant."
"But why would your parents care about the merchant, they have no idea where it is."
"That's what I'm wondering." June said, sitting back in her seat with furrowed eyebrows, trying to make sense of it all. Finally they made it to the dock, June smiling as they all waved in their direction. She stepped out of the car, making her way towards them. Pope was setting up the drone and then he dropped it the water, seeing the blue ocean pop onto the screen immediately. John B ran and jumped in the water, followed by Kie and they both messed around in front of them camera. June took her time coming up from the car, an extreme amount of anxiety filling her. Pope turned his head as she approached, waving up at her fork where he was bent down. JJ was leaned over Pope, looking into the screen. He reached towards the monitor, touching a button.
"What's that?" He asked. Pope slapped his hand away, causing JJ to pull it back.
"Don't touch that. I'm trying to work out this thing." JJ backed up slightly, his hands on his knees as he watched the screen. Soon enough he worked up the courage to turn his head towards June who was just standing there, watching the screen as well. She looked at him at the same time, causing her cheeks to flare up. She looked down at her hands, trying to hide it but JJ had seen the blush, causing a smug smile to cross his lips.
"God bless geeks Pope. What would we do without you to control the drones?" JJ said, standing up and walking towards the railing.
"Technically it's not a drone, it's an ROV-"
"Shut up man. It's too early for that." June made her way to the railing too as Kie and John B broke through the water.
"Look once we get footage of the wreck, we'll take it to a lawyer and file a claim." John B said, making his way back to the dock.
"It's bullshit. Why do we have to do that?" JJ asked.
"Well it's kind of illegal if we don't." June added in.
"Right. There's maritime salvage law. You can't just go to the ocean floor and scoop a bunch of stuff up." Pope explained, earning a nod from June.
"I know I know. It's just...lawyers aren't cheap man."
"I think 400 million might be able to cover the cost of a lawyer. Plus my dad is a lawyer if worst comes to worst." June said, looking at JJ and then to Pope.
"This tether is like really long. In the wrong weather this thing could get pushed around." Pope said, looking at John B. June looked over at the storm clouds approaching.
"Then we'll go at dead calm." John B answered.
"At slack tide?" Kie asked, pulling herself back into the platform.
"And now we wait." June said, leaning on the railing in front of her.
"And today is not the day." They all look at the storm clouds now that are quickly approaching. They all share a look a of disappointment before making their way back into John B's house. They all decide son going their separate ways, June heading back home but really really wanting to talk to JJ. Every time she looked at him she couldn't help but look at his lips. They needed to talk about what had happened. And she knew they would soon but she really wanted to do it now.
Before she could get a word out they were at her house. Pile was rushing because he needed to make it back to his dad and help him with deliveries. June stepped out of the van, giving JJ a pointed look before they drove off.
She made her way into the house, a frown on her face as she opened the door.
"Back so soon?" Her parents asked, making her sigh.
"Yes." She said, making her way up to her room and plopping down on the bed. "I'm taking a nap!" June yelled earning an okay form her parents downstairs. She got under her covers and tried to keep her mind clear, but June was an over thinker. She wondered why JJ didn't say anything to her. Why they barely interacted after what had happened last night. She did not like the coldness of it at all. But before she could get too angry at him for not saying anything, she remembered the kiss, how his hands felt on her face, and how much she wanted to do it again. Soon after June fell asleep. What June didn't know was that Zach had been waiting nearby to talk to her, and had seen every bit of it.

Pope made his way through the golf course, trying to make it to his delivery. He kept his head down, walking fast and passing each person as quickly as possible.
"Hey how much for one of those beers?" Pope looked up to see Rafe, Topper, and Zach all standing around him with their gold clubs in hand.
"They're not for sale." Pope said trying to push past them. Rafe kept him back.
"Oh man. Come on just give us one." Zach added, reaching for the box.
"Or you can order one like everyone else." Pope kept trying to get past but Rafe pushes him back again.
"What an attitude." Zach commented, leaning on his gold club.
"No no no wait. You're not listening to me. You've got so many bro and we've got nothing." Pope looked to Zach as Rafe spoke, Zach nodding his head at Rafes words.
"Nothing." Topper agreed.
"They're not even mine man. They're already paid for." Pope explained. Rafe reached for the bag, trying to see what was in it.
"Already paid for? You probably stole them right?" Just as he finished he pulled the bag, the contents spilling out in the ground.
"What the hell! You owe me for that." Pope yelled, looking around at the three dudes circling him. Zach knocked the beers out of his other hand, laughing.
"I don't owe you shit Pogue."
"Buy your own shit." Pope yelled, pushing Rafe back away from him. Pope ran over to grab the box of beers before being dropped by Topper.
"We just want one of these beers man ." Zach watched as the two of them struggled, an idea coming into his head. He wanted to send a message. Topper threw Pope to the ground, Pope growing as he hit it.
"Shit my bad man." Topper said, a smile on his face. Pope stood and ran towards Zach and Topper, but before he could make it to them Rafe hit him with the golf club. Zach took this as his opportunity and hit Pope with his own club.
"Hey guys come on stop. Knock it off. Seriously Zach, Rafe let's go! Stop." Topper pulled them away as Rafe swung back one more time, throwing his club into the ground. Rafe stepped forward, leaning over Pope and smacking his cheek.
"Listen yo man. We don't want you here okay? Behind him Topper pleaded for him to leave him alone. "Stay off figure eight Pogue."
"And tell your little friend to keep his lips off my girl or he's gonna get a lot worse." Zach said, leaning over Pope as well. They all turned away and walked off, Zach smiling as they did.
