June opened her front door, trying not to make a lot of noise and wake her parents up. She had spent all night out and even though she said she was at Sarah's she figured they probably didn't believe her.

June made it to her room, closing  her door and changing her clothes so her parents didn't ask why she was so dirty.  Not long after she heard a knock on her door and her moms voice on the other side.

"June honey? You need to get up." June quickly laid down, making it seem like she had been there for awhile.

"June ? I signed you up for the beach cleanup. I hope you don't mind." Her mother said, entering her room. June turned over with a groan.

"Mom why would you do that?" June asked throwing her hands up in the air.

"Because your friend Sarah is gonna  be there and I figured you'd wanna go."  Her mom said. "I hope you guys had fun last night. It sounded like it when I called to check on you." June's eyes widened when her mother said this.

"Oh I didn't know that you called. What'd Sarah say?"

"Well she said you two were eating some snacks and  playing some board games. I'm glad you had fun though sweetie. It's been awhile since you really hung out with anyone other than Zach." She said, caressing her daughters head. June smiled and nodded, wondering why Sarah would cover for her.

"All right get dressed. You have to be out there by noon."

"Mom it's 8 am . Why do I have to get up now?" She asked.

"I mean I guess you don't." Her mother said, standing by the door now. She watched her daughter pull the covers over her head."Oh by the way... JJs outside doing the shrubs."

June immediately sat up at that, pushing the covers off and smiling at her mom.

"I think I will get ready now." June said, opening her closet and search for her bathing suit.

"I knew that would get you up." Her mother teased before closed the door and leaving June to change. June walked towards her window, peeking out of it to see if her mother was being serious or not. But there he was, going to town in the shrubs with the clippers. June couldn't stop herself from smiling as she remembered the fun she had the night before.

She went back to her closet, searching through it and then pulling her bathing suit out. She quickly put it in before she grabbed her white sundress and put it on as well. She gave herself a once over in the mirror before sliding her sandals on and making her way down the stairs. Her mother stood at the kitchen counter, smiling at her daughter as she walked in to the kitchen.

"Well don't you looks pretty." Her mom said, raising her eyebrows with a knowing grin on her face.

"Well I figured I have to look presentable considering people I know are gonna be there. And Zach." She hadn't really thought of Zach in a while but now she knew that he would be there. His dad wouldn't make him go.

"Do me a favor and take JJ a cup of coffee baby. He looks tired." June stifled her laugh at that comment, remembering how ling they had stayed up the night before.

"Alright, as long as you give me one." June agrees, reaching her hands out for a cup.

"I'm way ahead of you." Her mother said, handing her two cups of coffee and sending her off with a smile. June exited through the sliding door, a smile evident on her face as she made her way towards JJ. He noticed her soon enough, pushing his sunglasses down his nose and giving her a once over.

"Well look who we got here. Long time no see Carl's. What's it been? 3 hours?" JJ greeted her with his signature grin that June reciprocated.

"Something like that. Here I brought you this coffee. My mom said you looked tired." She said, handing him the cup of coffee. He gratefully accepted it, taking a sip of it.

"So... did you get all dressed up and pretty to come down here and see me?" He asked, sticking a hand out to gesture to her clothes.

"You wish." She said, her smile widening. She tried to hide her red cheeks but he caught sight of them anyways.

"I do. So how's it feel being an honorary Pogue?" JJ said, bowing at the end of his sentence.

"I feel like a whole new woman." She joked and he laughed, looking down at his feet."Never felt better.

"Well you never looked better either. Something about you face planting just... makes me like you even more."

"Anyways, I'm all dressed up because I have to go to the beach cleanup that my mother decided to sign me up for." June said, trying to hide her blush again

"Nice! Well I guess that means you don't want to hang with us on the boat then?"

"Holy shit I'd love to. But my mom will kill me if I don't go to this thing. And I have to ask Sarah why she actually covered for me yesterday."

"So you're all dressed up for Sarah Cameron? Oh wait...this beach cleanup is a Kook thing right? So that means Zach is gonna be there. Makes more sense now." JJ turned away from her, sitting his cup in the grass and continuing on the shrubs. June furrowed her eyebrows at the sudden mood change but just shrugged it off and decided she didn't want to talk about Zach.

"I have to go, but I'll see you later I'm sure."

"Mhm." He said as he continued to trim the shrubs.

June walked back inside, fully confused and slightly annoyed. She decided to just leave it alone and made her way to the door, yelling a goodbye to her mother and then heading out.

:::

June parked her car, looking around for any sign of Zachs car as she did so. Once she realized she had found no trace of Zachs truck she opened her door and stepped out.

She started towards the beach,  trying to check for any sign of Zach there as well. Soon enough she spotted Sarah walking with Topper.

"Sarah!" June called, catching her attention. Sarah waved her over, and June complied making her way over quickly.

"Hey guys." June said, a forced smile on her face as she nodded towards Topper.

"Hey June. I had a great time last night. Real fun." Sarah said, a mischievous smile in her face. Topper looked between the two of them with confusion.

"You were with me last night though." Topper said. June's eyes widened.

"Yeah I got a call from Mrs. March asking me if June's having fun over at my house. I got you though June. I won't rat you out to your parents. "

"Thanks Sarah." June said, sighing in relief.

"But if you weren't out with me like you said you were to your parents, then that means you must have been sneaking around doing something else. Who are you sneaking around with June?" Sarah asked. June furrowed her eyebrows as Topper dropped an arm over her shoulder.

"Who's sneaking around?" June heard a voice behind her. A voice she knew all too well. Her back tended as she felt the presence of Zach beside her.

"June." Topper said, pointing at the girl and giving her a smile.

"I'm not sneaking around." June tried to defend herself.

"Hey hey hey, don't let her lie to you Zach. She told her parents last night that she was with Sarah, but actually wasn't." Topper said, patting Zach on the back. Zach nodded his head, a forced smile on his face.

"Not my problem anymore I guess." Zach said. He stood there for a moment longer before excusing himself and walking away. June flared at Topper.

"Fuck you Topper. You didn't have to do that." She said, pushing his shoulder as she followed after Zach.

"He deserves the truth." He called after her, causing her to flip him off from behind. June followed Zach to the bag station and grabbed a bag, following him to the patch of trash he was picking up.

"Zach it's not as bad as it sounds." She said, grabbing the nearest piece of trash to her. She knew very well that it probably was as bad as it sounded to him, considering he hated Pogues and she had spent all day and night with them.

"That's fine June. I don't care." He said turning to her. He pulled off his hat and ran a hand through his hair before setting it back on his head.

"Oh okay. Well I'm glad you're moving on." She said, surprised that he was so okay knowing that she had lied about her whereabouts to her parents and wouldn't tell anyone where she was.

"Fuck! No I'm not moving on. And you sneaking around and not telling anyone and not being with me is driving me crazy! But I'm trying to prove to you that I can respect your space."

"I don't think we're gonna get back together Zach."

"I- I'm not taking that. I'll keep fighting for you until you take me back but please... please tell me you weren't out with those Pogues for some reason."  His eyes were pleading with her, he knew deep down , he had a real strong feeling that  she was out there  running around with the Pogues.  He wanted to be proved wrong,  he wanted her to say  it. But her hesitation was enough for him to realize.

"I wasn't-"

"Damn it June! I knew it." Zach looked at her, his face just as broken as it was when she told him it was over between them.

"Zach calm down. I wasn't out with them."

"Then you can tell me where you went."

"Zach you don't want to know. It'll only make you upset." Zach stopped messing with the trash to look her in the eyes.

"Nothing will hurt me more than you being out with the Pogues or JJ. Nothing. Tell me."  He reached for her hands and successfully secured them, trying to look into her eyes for the truth.

"I met a tourist. And we spent the night together." June spit out the first thing that came to mind instantly regretting it. Zach withdrew his hands from hers, the  heart break all over this face again.

"You let your first time be with a tourist?" Zach said in a hushed whisper.

"I-"

"Nevermind June. I was wrong. Something else can hurt me more. I need some time." Zach said before leaving her alone there on the beach. June watched after him with furrowed eyebrows, confused at the events that had just played out .

"Fuck." She said, face palming. "Why the fuck would  you say that?"
