( fourty-four. )
June was standing behind John B, a smile on her lips due to the fact that she couldn't shake the thought of JJ. Her lips were still burning from their kiss and the sensation made her feelings for him grow even more. June wanted JJ more than anything right now, not caring about anything else that had happened in the last 24 hours. She had never felt this strongly about anyone before.
John B looked back at her, wondering what was on her mind. She looked a mess, her face covered in blood and dirt and her clothes super dirty. He was wondering what had happened while they were separated...finally letting his curiosity get to him and opening his mouth to ask her.
"June?" He said, turning his head to look at her. She looked at him with her eyebrows raised, wondering what it was that he needed. "What happened when we were separated? Why's um...why's your face all bloody and stuff?" He asked her. June smile dropped as she thought of what had happened with Rafe.
"Well we got cornered by Rafe and Barry and then Barry elbowed me in the face. Then I almost killed Rafe...I almost killed him." June's eyes were wide as she remembered the scary moment. The worst part was that every inch of her was screaming to pull the trigger.
"Oh...okay." He said, seeing the indescribable expression on her face and deciding to leave it alone. But now that he had brought it up her mind was filled with thoughts of Rafe, Barry, and her shaky hands on the gun.
They passed another dock, June being pulled out of her thoughts by a voice calling to them.
"John B!" The voice yelled, making them both look towards the dock. It was Sarah, running towards the boat as quick as her legs could take her. John B lit up, pulling the boat towards the dock for her to get on.
"S-Sarah!" He yelled, his relief evident as she got into the boat. June heart swelled as she watched the scene before her, contentment going through her knowing John B was with Sarah again.
"Hey. What are you doing? I didn't think you were coming. You weren't at the dock." John B said, pulling her to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, rubbing a hand over his cheek and smiling.
"You were just going to leave without saying goodbye?" She said before closing the space between them. June looked away as they kissed, a pang hitting her chest as she thought of JJ. She should have brought him along. The thought of being without him for weeks or months made her uneasy, the two having been inseparable for awhile now. She thought back to the first night they really met, the smug smile he had on his face. Or when they first hung out and the gold wasn't serious and there was no dead people or murders. When everything was light hearted and happy. June longed for those times, a frown etching it's way into her face as she thought back.
"June!" Sarah said, making her jump and look at Sarah. "What happened to you?" Sarah asked as John B started driving the boat away again, Sarah walking over to sit by June.
"A lot happened. It doesn't matter right now." June said, not really wanting to explain it again. "All that matters is that we get the hell out of here without getting caught." Sarah nodded, moving on and asking her about JJ.
"Do you get to say goodbye to JJ?" Sarah asked, looking back at John B who's eyes were already trained on her. She sent him a smile and then looked back at June.
"I did. I already miss him." June let out a flat chuckle as John B rounded a curve of land. Sarah nodded, standing from her spot and making her way back to John Bs arms. June stood too, following after Sarah and standing on the other side of John B. She tucked her arms into each other, a frown embedded on her face as she realized how much she really did already miss JJ.
They stopped the boat, looking at the flashing lights and the lit up tents surrounding the area. June was in shock at how serious they were about finding them. Sarah was the first to speak, making June turn her head to look at her.
"It's like the entire Sheriffs department." Sarah said, looking at the flashing lights.
"Holy fucking shit guys." June said, a dry chuckle leaving her mouth as she watched the cars open their doors and the small crowd of people surrounding the tents. They were right there. Sitting right there under their noses.
"We'll go dark and let the tide pull us out." John B said, reaching up to push the buttons and cut the power off in the boat. June walked over to the edge of the boat, looking out at the sight in front of her. She could hear the yelling from the shore, watching the people walking around as she stood in complete silence.
John B has his arm around Sarah, shushing her as she gasped. June walked slowly over to them, wanting to be close to them. John B nodded at her, pulling her to his side as they all stood together, trying not to move or cause any disturbance.
June soon noticed the storm overhead, the thunder rumbling and lightning striking off in the distance. June turned her head to look at the shore again, listening to the voices.
"We need eyes omg the other side of the point!" They heard, all of them breathing out a collective sigh of relief.
"We're clear." John B said, looking between the two girls in his arms. June cracked a small smile, despite the fact that they were far from being in the clear. One misstep and they'd be caught.
"Hey. Hey we're gonna make it." Sarah said, looking from John B to June with a smile.
"Yeah. We gotta go north through the swamp and then we have to follow-"
"Follow the North Star. What everything spins around." Sarah cut him off, making June furrow her eyebrows.
"Wow Sarah that's kinda beautiful." June said, looking up at the stars overhead. She sent a smile over to her again, her shoulders relaxing in the process. She reached over and squeezed Sarah's hand, looking with a smile at John B. John B reaches up to turn on something for the boat.
"Guys look." Sarah said, June and John B looking where she's pointing. June's breath hitched in her throat as she looked to the shore, her eyes widening. Section by section every light on the island started to come on, all of them gasping as it did. Junes eyes followed the lights, the lighthouse being the last one to come on. One misstep. The light started to spin, shining right onto the Phantom.
"Get down get down." John B said, pulling June out of her trance and into a crouching position. They listened to the yells from the shore, they were caught. John B tried to start the boat but it wouldn't start, making them all freak out.
"What do we do?" Sarah asked, frantically searching for an answer. June was no longer crouched, turning her head trying to figure out what to do.
"Check the engine." John B said, Sarah nodding and running towards the engine. June was starting to breathe heavy, her chest starting tighten. Sarah was leaned over the side, looking around.
"What am I looking for?" She yelled.
"Check the choke. The little ball." John B yelled.
"What is the choke?" Sarah asked, June running over to help her. She reached for the ball, squeezing it as John B yelled out directions. It finally started, John B cheering as he looked over his shoulder at the police boats making their way towards them. June and Sarah races back to him, grabbing the bars as he sped off and away from the boats.
June couldn't keep her eyes of the police boats, panic running through her as the water hit her face. She finally turned her head back forward, her eyes widening as she noticed the police boats coming from that direction too.
"Shit!" She yelled, looking to John B for an answer.
"Hold on. Hold on. Hold on! Ready?!" He said, Sarah and June grabbing onto the bars again as John B turned the boat away from them and towards the storm.
"They're coming from around the cut!" Sarah called out.
"We've gotta go south!" He yelled.
"Into the storm?" June yelled back.
"Yes! Into the storm!" Just as he answered the thunder clapped over head, lightning spreading across the sky, making June gasp. They hit a wave hard, water splashing over them. June gasped for air, holding the bar tighter as she tried to fight to get to the life jackets. She finally got to it, grabbing 3 straps and making her wya back to the other two.
"Here! Put these on!" She yelled, the two of them nodding and putting them on. Another wave hit the boat, water spraying them. June attached herself to the bars, holding on as tightly as she possibly could.
A voice came over the radio, making them all look down at it in shock.
"John B? John B, I know you're there son. I know you can hear me and if you love my daughter like I think you love my daughter, then you will turn that boat around and come back. You are going into a storm that you cannot survive. John B please... I will make it right. I promise you. Come back."
"John B don't listen! He's a fucking liar!" June yelled, shaking her head and pushing her soaked hair out of her face.
"John B I am begging you. June! Do not leave your parents without a daughter!" June shook her head, tears springing to her eyes as she grit her teeth.
"Turn around." Ward said once more, pushing John B over the edge.
"Ward Cameron do you hear me?" John B called into the radio.
"Yes. Yes son I'm right here. I'm right here. Please bring her back okay? We'll work it all out when you get back." Ward called.
"You killed my father! And you framed me and my friend for a murder we didn't commit. You took everything from me! You took everything from me! But I'm still here! And I swear to God, I will come back one day and take whats mine. So you listen to me all right? I'm comin' for you. I'm coming for you." John B finished, putting the radio back in its spot. June nodded at him, clapping him on the back to show her support.
"Fuck him." She said.
"What would you do if I wasn't here?" Sarah yelled you John B, tightening her arms around him.
"Look I'd rather die than go to jail Sarah."
"I'd rather die than be without you." Sarah said. June raised her eyebrows before looking away as they shared their moment. She couldn't help but think of JJ, wishing he was here more than anything right now.
"Hold on!" John B yelled, a wave building right in front of them. It came crashing down, the boat tipping.
"Wai-"
